Indiana Jones Staff of Kings for Wii

While it seems like the PS3 and 360 version of Indy's latest adventure is discarded looks like the Wii version is still in production along with a DS version and a Playstation version (probably PSP) why the hell isn't there a specific PS2, PSP or PS3 logo already for trailers ?!?!?

Wow, that sucked. Like, you had a gun, but it had limited ammo and I always wasted the shots on some stupid snakes (otherwise they killed me!) :(

Yeah, Indiana Jones makes perfect sense for the Wii. Not only is the Wii the market leader, but the control scheme is infinitely better suited for the Wii-mote/chuck than with a dualaxis or MS-pad. Swinging the remote in order to swing Indy's whip, or to aim his pistol sounds like awesome fun!

I'd say its no wonder the PS3/60 versions were cancelled. Not only are they the market losers, but they can't whip it, whip it good.

I think that was for the canceled PS3/360 game.  I don't think it was related to this game.

Hmm...the game sounds interesting enough in the IGN Preview, and lord knows Fate of Atlantis alone is worth that price tag (provided it's the voiced version, as it damn well should be).  Just one thing that bothered me, and it's the sort of thing that would bother some people and not others: they're apparently not going to be referring to the Germans in the game as Nazis, and their emblem won't be in the game.  Bull...fracking...****!  This game takes place in 1939!  They're Nazis!  In the films they're Nazis!  If you're going to have an Indiana Jones game in the 1930s that has German antagonists, it's just pointless and cowardly to hide from calling them what they were: Nazis.  I thought we were past pointless self-censorship like this ages ago!

Incidentally, Fate of Atlantis has the rather amusing honor of being the oldest game in my gaming backlog.  I played it for PC way back not too long after it came out (I had both it and X-Wing), and I got up to a particular point on all 3 paths before being completely stuck.  Unfortunately, by the time I figured out the solution I no longer had the game (it wasn't exactly a legal version and our photocopied manual got lost, and in those days they put the keycodes for entering the game on the pages of the manual).  It has been bothering me for literally almost 2 decades now that I never beat Atlantis, because I really loved that game.  Ah, to finally be able to remove that game from my backlog!  Pure bliss.

Man... X-Wing and those logos on the manual pages... those were the days.

I have to say, that was one pretty damn effective anti-piracy protection.  If you lost that manual (or didn't get one because you didn't have a legit copy) you were completely screwed because you had to enter a password (or in the case of Atlantis, arrange the Sun; Moon; and Earth discs on the dais) every time you wanted to play the game, and every time you got the sequence wrong it chose a new random code you had to enter. I managed to get in on X-Wing a few times just spamming random Star Wars planet names after I lost the manual, but that was really rare.  I own the game on PC now, and unfortunately unlike the original version it doesn't have mouse support.  Boo!

There are several games like that I own legitimately but lost the manual to them.

Though in the Age of Internets, someone has most likely placed these manual codes online somewhere so it would never work nowadays.

I was browsing through my weekly GameStop Email newsletter when I saw something that almost made me spit out the drink I was enjoying at the time: In big letters at the bottom of one of the pages they were advertising the Wii version of Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, and right there was an add for the Gamestop Exclusive Code for Fate of Atlantis.  What.  the.  Hell?!  Since when did we have bonus features on Wii games that required you to pre-order at GameStop?  It's bad enough having bonus powers in Infamous, Unlockable Suits in Ghostbusters, and various challenge maps and whatnot in Arkham Asylum only available through GameStop pre-order codes...but now an entire unlockable game is only available through GS?  What gives?!

That was the same deal with Guitar Hero World Tour and KFC. You got a code to unlock all the songs at once versus playing to unlock them. Plus the code will be online real fast as well.

Well, I hope that's indeed the case.  It's ridiculous enough putting up with this nonsense on the other two systems without having it infect the Wii as well.

I'm thinking of writing a buddy cop flick starring Broodwars and Golden_Phoenix.

Two seemingly irreconcilable Nintendo fans have to unite to save the world from losing the greatest game company on earth. Action! Suspense! Drama! Pikmin! It's all there and more! Coming Summer 1010 to a youTube channel near you!

I don't know why you guys are hating on the main game so much. It looks really cool.

It's partly because 3rd party support on Wii has been pitiful in the quality department outside a few companies (Sega, Capcom, EA), and partly because I have no reason whatsoever to expect quality out of Lucasarts anymore.  The last good title that they had any association with was the Rogue Squadron series, and Factor 5 made those.

Besides, the game's going to look really poor in comparison to Fate of Atlantis, a game made in Lucasarts' heyday before Star Wars just completely took over.

Well if I recall hasn't this game been in development hell for quite awhile? That is usually not a good sign. Also while I enjoyed Force Unleashed it had some pretty big flaws and LUcasarts has not had a great track record as of late.

Force Unleashed was developed by Chrome Studios, not LucasArts.
Also, the game was merely honed into a Wii SKU versus having HD versions.

But more importantly, are my eyes deceiving me or am I defending a 3rd party game from early dismissal/judgment from none other than THE Golden_Phoenix? The defender of 3rd party Wii games? The bearer of the banner of 3rd party Wii endeavors? What happened? How topsy-turvy ;)

Stratos I'm talking about ALL versions of Force Unleashed, not just the Wii one.

Alright, I'll grant that. I thought you were talking about the Wii version alone. But I still find it humorous I am defending a 3rd party Wii game from you of all people.  :D

Hey, you don't know if this will be a good Wii game or not yet. It looks promising, it looks pretty, it has awesome bonus material that I believe shows that the devs care about the product and it is only one Wii. No Wii/PS2 porting crap to deal with and no PS3/360/Wii with a token Wii version.

If you are going to knock this, knock Overlord, Conduit, Madworld, de Blob, House of the Dead Overkill, Deadly Creatures, Cursed Mountain or Winter.

I'm still surprised your taking this stance with Indy considering the other games you have supported. For Shame  :-\

Overworld is being put together by a proven team (the first game was fantastic). Madworld I've played and it is quite good,s ame with HOTDO and Deadly Creatures. deBlob never played but I've heard mixed things about it. Conduit we'll see, I hope it turns out well. And Cursed Mountain, I'm interested in but I worry about it. The fact is that Lucasarts does not have a good track record as of late so it is hard to remain optimistic about their game which has been stuck in some weird development cycle.

Well, I'd say that "I hate to say I told you so", but I don't so I won't: for whatever reason IGN has devoted an entire review to "Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis" tacked-on bonus extra "Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings" Wii game.  Surprise, surprise it's a passable action game brought down by crappy Wiimote controls (when not shooting a gun).  Gee, never would have seen that coming out of a 3rd party multiplatform PSP/PS2/Wii game, especially from such a quality developer like LucasArts!

Odd that they barely even mention the lasting appeal of the main game: Atlantis.

My quick impressions of "Staff of Kings": I really want to like it more.  There's clearly a very cool and fun game hidden in here but it's buried in mediocrity.  The brawling portions of the game are frustrating in that you're constantly surrounded by foes, which means you can't do any of the cool moves you learn in the tutorial like whipping a guy over and head-butting him.  You end up just flailing with the Wii-remote and nunchuck just to clear space.  And the exploration and puzzle solving portions end up being less about puzzle solving and more about just wandering through the levels waiting for a context sensitive whip icon to appear indicating that there's something nearby you can interact with.

I've only played through a small portion of the game so far, but it feels to me as if I'm engaged in one long interactive cutscene.. actual game-play is reduced to periodically obeying on-screen instructions between being mobbed by enemy grunts.  At least Mad World had the art style and humor to distract from the tedium.

Of course, I haven't played Fate of Atlantis yet, so I do have that to look forward to.

Let's not talk about $40+ VC games, OK?  Stay focused.
