Kizuna - The Return of Jaleco
« on: August 30, 2008, 12:09:15 PM »
黄金の絆 (Kigane no Kizuna) means "Bonds of Gold"

Genre: Action RPG
Developer: Jaleco Ltd. (NEW Jaleco, which has little to do with the one of old)
Release: Winter 2008

Scenario: Miwa Shouda (FFXII, Saga Frontier, Little King's Story)
Director/Programmer: Youichi Kawaguchi (DQVIII, Little King's Story)

~ Main character is Lian (Leon)
~ Visuals will have a stylized "sketch" effect to them
~ More than 100 quests
~ Accumulated gauge techniques can be used
~ Huge bosses, find the weak point by pointing the Wii remote on screen; you also point at the enemy you wish to target

Also have a delicious taste of the game's art and screens, which are contained on a single, huge 4MB-sized image ripped from the game's website...

Collection of music ripped from the website (Thanks to Stormbringer at GAF!)

I hope they release some videos sometime in the near future, but maybe we will have to wait until TGS.

Looks like PS2ish browns and greys along with a hard "cel" shading like Suda 51 loves. I don't like it, especially since4 the attempt at fur shading looks completely out of place because of it.

I like it. I would just hope it would be in 16:9, and support progressive scan, but I doubt it will have both. I will take it as it is anyway.

Nintendo really should have made those things mandatory...

Looks neat to me. Hope it plays as well as it looks. The graphics aren't amazing but they're distinct and that's what makes up for it.

Woah! Un-watermarked images! Where did you find these awesome treasures Bill?

Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

You know I liked best about these screens so far? Self-shadowing.

I recall some otherwise graphically advanced game not having self shadowing because it looked like ass on organic shapes.

There's no self-shadowing on those screens.  Just dark cel-shades.

Maybe I'm using the wrong term, but the shadows are moving on the orcs' bodies from screen to screen.

That's shading or lighting :P

Super Mario Sunshine already had custom light falloffs before Wind Waker showed cel shading on the system, I think SMS could have looked celshaded with a different falloff curve.

The intro sounds exactly like Avatar: the last airbender (The song that's usually played at the end of the episode when everything starts to die down).

I'll just boost morale by stating that it's unlikely GameYarou bought Jaleco only to cancel the one game that they have in development, especially one with such potential as Kizuna...

Nice, it lives! I was looking forward to this until I heard about Jaleco shutting down.

I'm a little confused how it's still alive, though. Is the company Jaleco sold all of their shares to, Game Yarou, publishing the title or something?
