nay, they killed FF Tactics with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I think I am about done with Square now. Let's just hope they fade to Acclaim status in a timely manner. The industry would be better off.

Amen.

I wonder if this extends to the NES edition SP as well.

Quote

why would anyone buy a sp now when they could wait a few months and get DS

1. DS doesn't play GB/C games (negligible, I know)
2. We have no confirmation that the DS will linkup with  the Cube as the GBA does.

I've only heard success stories from it so far. It has brought very big improvements for a lot of people.

The PS2 version apparently tried to cope with this by assigning nine different positions to the right analog stick (top-left, top-center, top-right, you get the idea), and then having you hit an "R" button while the analog stick was in one of those positions.

I'd like to meet a game so hardcore he(or she) could play a game that way (play well).

Thanks to Tommy Tallarico of The Electric Playground for pointing it out (yeah Tommy, some Nintendo fans actually DO watch your show every now and then, you stupid a**hole).

God I hate that guy. He is such a schmoe.

Yes! I'm still ticked that title got cancelled.

I'd love WaveRace at launch as well. WaveRace: BS is still one of my favorite racing games.

I like it but then I didn't really think the original design was all that ugly. This looks much better though and I hope idiots like the Gamespy staff who think the PSP will be more successful because it looks sleeker will f*cking shut-up now.

My sentiments exactly.

I really didn't expect so drastic change. It does look really cool, though.

I dunno. These little kids are becoming much more skilled in the art of gaming.

You must be joking. Kids today are so coddled it isn't even funny. Kids in the NES days were real gamers, little brats tackling contra, donkey kong, metroid and the like. I doubt 5% of kids today could take any of OUR generations games.

I'd like to see a new 2D Metroid game but not on a portable. After playing Four Swords Adventure I'm in the mood for more console 2D games that use all sorts of cool effects made possible by the more advanced hardware. MP2 is introducing the concept of parallel worlds to the franchise and I would love to see that in one of the 2D games.

Mmmmm, 2d hoem console goodness... I second this.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo Revolution, Discuss it here!

I just like the idea of porting rare games to the Revolution. Pad lulls in the post-launch period with re-releases of NiGHTS, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Ogre Battle, Dragon Warrior IV, Sonic CD; stuff not released in North America like Dragon Warrior V and VI, Final Fantasy III, and the entire Fire Emblem series; and perfect arcade comps of titles like X-Men or The Simpsons that never got a decent home release. Third parties would go for it because the effort involved in re-releases is small and gamers wouldn't mind because unlike most GBA ports these are ports of obscure titles that haven't been played by everyone to death. Obviously you don't want the Rev to be a port machine but this would be a good way to fill the release schedule between major new releases and hardcore gaming nuts would be all over it.

I don't know if I could survive the excitement... I might literally die if even a fraction of that happened.

General Gaming / RE: Sony's PSP May Face Games Shortage

F*ck ya! No Square-Enix games on the PSP at all? Man that just decided who wins in Japan. And Konami sure is all over the place. "We love Nintendo, no now we love Sony, no now we love Nintendo again." No mention of Namco but I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say they'll release Namco Museum for the PSP.

Let's hope Nintendo can keep this up for the Revolution as well. Without Sony having a head start they could trip them up the same way they're doing here if Sony can't get PS3 dev kits out in time and Nintendo can get Rev dev kits out. Both Playstations had terrible launches so with Nintendo launching at the same time or before they can create an advantage. And if the Rev truly is unique like the DS that's going to help too.

Well put!

Man, this could be a stellar victory for Nintendo.

The car demo in XNA is nice, but by far the most amazing graphics I've seen are done in the Unreal 3 engine. I've only seen a camcorder recording of the screening at E3, but it truely was brilliant, far better than the car demo. Most of all, they had a technique that allowed a model of about 8 500 triangles to look like a model 20 000 000 triangles. That's 20 million. It still sucks up processing power, of course, but it looks really nice. I guess all next-gen graphics engines are looking really nice right now, and no doubt they'll be surpassed when more and more companies begin to develope them.

KDR already beat me to it, but like he said DOOM III among others is already doing the same thing.  I'd bet Half-Life 2 does it also.

However, Unreal Engine 3 does have other things going for it that are just as impressive. It is a brilliant engine, but so is DOOM III and others.  All of them are going to require some serious hardware, though.

1. Microsoft has asked Sony and Nintendo to use the XNA system.
2. Of course the tech demo looked good, it is a tech demo.
3. There is no cure-all for easing game development. XNA may ease the process somewhat, but I'll be surprised if it is at all revolutionary.
4. If no one but Microsoft adopts XNA then it won't really matter.

Koopa: I don't start a new game twenty times per dungeon.

But you play the same story for 20+ hours every game.  Obiously this is a bit extreme, since the stories do differ slightly and atleast have different faces, but the argument still stands.

Really, games like Anachronox have been much more fun since they knew that battles aren't much fun and cut down on the number of fights required (often you'd run around trying to solve puzzles and the like for hours without a fight in between).

Yeah, as I recall, gameplay was OUR argument. You were arguing on the side of storylines. Stop stealing my lines
