TalkBack / Re: The History of Mario Book Review
« on: July 17, 2014, 09:21:03 PM »
I also whole-heartedly recommend this book. As someone who got into gaming at a time when Mario was already a star, I don't think I truly understood that when the Donkey Kong arcade game came out, the star was the ape and not the mustachioed guy. The book does a great job putting Mario's rise in context and explaining Nintendo's choices.
As someone who got into gaming before Mario was even Mario, I can tell you that when Donkey Kong came out it was weird. There was really nothing like it.

TalkBack / Re: Is Open World Enough for Zelda?
« on: June 23, 2014, 09:24:24 PM »
All this stuff what's wrong with a game that's not even out. What the hell? I just don't get it.

I also don't get the need for open world Zelda. Every other game you are hindered by having not yet acquired a certain weapon or item. Is this now gone? Is Link now a mercenary? Has he always been?

Maybe it's just me, but even though I didn't particularly enjoy Skyward Sword and am practically weary of a world the size of Twilight Princess, I'm totally stoked for the next home Zelda.

Well, not really Dynasty Warriors Zelda, but you know what I mean!

Actually a sound sequencer would make me want this title.

Your McDonald's is doing it wrong then.

Nah, that's just some BS blog. Any forbes.com/sites/ URI isn't coming from a journalist hired by Forbes. Not sure what that was supposed to show, anyway. Personally I'm fine with "boys" or "girls" toys since it's the simplest way to get the idea across, but if they wanted to identify them by brand, say Batman or Barbie, then whatever, but don't cry about getting Catwoman or Ken instead. Fairly odd for the pre-teen set to give a **** about such a thing.

MK should totally be neutral though, not considered just for boys. Got pwned last night by someone that appeared to be a lady-girl-female person track after track. Which clearly proves that. Also I know my kids are gonna demand to go there if they find out about this. So shut up!

Outrun was 'ight. A 3D version actually sounds pretty sweet.

But I liked TopGear a lot more. Maybe it was the BGM.

As a parent of young kids I can tell you they would've thought it was funny. Older kids already know, but if they or anyone is traumatized by having to pick who they would've picked anyway (and yet amazingly not have to be affected by any other option) then they need more than for that option to be removed. They need to learn that gay people are people. Sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers; People who need the very same things we all do. To be loved and valued. Perhaps even more so.

I don't see a problem with it either way, except if you are gay and wanted to play this game the way they claim it's meant to be played then that would suck, but it's not oppressing you. If you're straight and there was same sex coupling available... so what? Same thing. You ain't being oppressed. Who said you'd have to play it like that anyway?

I could be missing some infos, but I took the "not making social commentary" bit to mean the exclusion of same sex relationships wasn't meant to be social commentary, not that it was excluded to avoid making social commentary.

TalkBack / Re: Three Reasons Why I’m Not Excited for Mario Kart 8

Gonna have to rate this list Bullcrap™.

Still haven't fixed single player? It ain't broke, so what gives? Oh I see, you're incredibly biased! :p A racing game story mode? You may be on to something, but unless the racing was like Cannonball Run I can't imagine giving a crap about what leads me to race at one track after the next. Challenge modes sound more better (even a Build-a-Cup mode), although I find that sort of filler tedious, that could even flesh out multiplayer quite a bit. *meh* Going for the gold is enough for me.

Do the characters really have that much in the way of different abilities? I've never noticed anything other than the obvious. Are they doing special items now? Collect coins to fill up your racers special power meter? This list item seems pretty silly to me.

That last item... oy. It's fun to rant, I know. But after reading this I've concluded that I'm gonna get this game and have a blast. ;D

OK, fine, sex appeal Samus is a stand alone fighter.

After everything Nintendo has brought to the gaming world, having to seek out a younger demographic should be the last thing on this dudes mind.

A gaming future without Nintendo would be so bland, homogeneous, and boring.

That's a V for Victory.
Bingo!

I always played as Mario in Super Mario Kart. When I won my Dad teased me that Mario was really saying he was #2. So I switched to Koopa Troopa, my Dad's favorite character. I think he always preferred Mario but since I was the kid he let me pick first. Clever use of reverse psychology.
I always played as Toad in MK64 and it drove everyone crazy having to hear "I'm the best! Hahahaha!" all the time.

I used the eShop once to try it out and then not again until this issue of mine was resolved - How do I get what I pay you for? | Nintendo Tech Forums

Holding onto monies like that is serious bullcrap. I'm looking at you, Steam...

Ugh, what took so long? :p

I'm like BNM. When is my Wii account going to be unified so I can spend my lost funds? I want my $2!

« on: September 26, 2013, 09:41:13 PM »
I'm infamously not a fan of Link to the Past, and thus it wasn't on my list, which may have thrown off the numbers a bit. If so, I apologize to all the people who are wrong and would rank that game that high on this list.
Yoouuuu!! Insanity Level: User Name Earned  :P

I have to agree with (some of) what Evan said here. So many of these games are different enough that putting them in a list like this is silly. That said, Link To The Past is top 3, easy. I'm OK with it being 2 or even 1.

Aw man! Twilight Princess got robbed!  >:(

Easily one of my favs, if not number 1. I enjoyed it the first play through, but going through again? Blown away by how many indelible memories this game has. It's not just huge in physical scale. This is the true successor to OoT.

TalkBack / Re: Our Wind Waker Memories: A Decade of Sailing Above Hyrule
« on: September 16, 2013, 10:26:20 PM »
I loved this one. The sailing could be a bit much, as well as the grappling hook / crane animation. It wasn't a dungeon fest, which was also a disappointment, but all-in-all a fabulous game.

No other Zelda game really nailed home the legendary hero aspect as well. Sure they all talk about it, but here it isn't just a vague prophecy.

And the ending... Jaw, meet floor.

I replayed it on a Wii and it's a serious lament that you couldn't have used the Wii remote to control the Wind Waker the whole time. I've always wondered since if that was where the whole motion control came from.
