TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Will Not Bring Games to Smartphones
« on: July 09, 2011, 01:56:43 AM »
I'm talking a official free NWFC app, one that lets you check your friends online status, maybe with some kind of Club Nintendo integration too that lets you register games and purchase C.N stuff on the go too?
This idea is pure genius and insidious as hell at the same time! I love it. And put out some free titles in the eshop! Free games are like crack that keeps you coming back again and again. Even a $1 sale. Get your users hooked already!

Also, while using the eshop I can't help but wonder if anyone at Nintendo uses it themselves. Three clicks to start a stinkin' video? Why? I can't tell you how many game pages I see that don't even have a video attached yet a search for said game reveals a video for it. The eshop looks nice but it's not that easy to use. Get Miyamoto on the MF pronto. Or some other designer that knows usability and enjoyment go hand-in-hand.

I will say that for any stat in any "game"  Is hitting a ball somewhat consistently an Achievement?  By your account every sport is not worthy of mention.
When that sport is played by rank amateurs in their own homes, absolutely.

So I take it you don't want to know what my headshot:accuracy:kill:death ratios are in Medal of Honor: Heroes II? Or how many self-destructs I have in SSB:B with young Link as opposed to even younger Link? Item knock offs with Pikachu? Metamatoes eaten with Luigi? Ad nauseam.

If you like that stuff, fine. So long as I have the option to not be forced to be subjected to it even finer. Also not having to pay a subscription for things that have been done free for years would be great.

Wow. What does this mean for Nintendo?
This means that Nintendo should buy The Pokémon Company outright. Assuming that's possible. Nintendo doesn't see themselves as synonymous with Pokémon as most people do. It seems a no brainer to nab that property in whole.

Playing an assload of video games is not an achievement. And I really don't care who does what in a game how many times. Anyone really care how many times I've used the attack helicopter in Black Ops? Anyone? Bueller?

A user based login system would be great. One not based on, controlled, or secured (or not) by a third party that is.

The Airwalk example is totally backward. They sold everything everywhere and it brought them down, Nintendo is not selling everything everywhere and it could bring them down? Does not compute.

Has Nintendo really built their empire by treating a tiny segment of the audience to what they want? I don't see it that way. Sometimes they have complied (Kid Icarus for example) but on the whole I doubt trying to satisfy the myriad small groups of gamers makes much business sense to them. If the cool kids are *that* into JRPGs, importing is *always* an option.

For the sake of candor: I would consider The Last Story if they localized it, but I doubt I'd actually get it in the end. I don't have (or make) that kind of game time any more. So the news of probable failure of "Operation Rainfall" doesn't faze me in the least, nor would have its success.

What is the point of having a separate branch but to cater to the local audience?
To market to the local audience.

Maybe Sony paid Capcom to sabotage the first big 3rd party title for the 3DS.
Which was Street Fighter IV.

I smell BS coming from Capcom's direction. That's not "replay value" that's, "WTF.... someone already beat this? I can't start over? What a POS!"

You'd think somebody at NOA would realize this. Seriously, this is just plain dumb. I'm not sure I could bring myself to splurge on something so frivolous that day. In fact I'm a bit insulted they don't think it would matter to people.

Then again, wallowing in tragedy and death is not a way to move forward. Enjoying life is.

I've always find statements like "proper online" to be fairly meaningless. If you mean a common user system that is authenticated online then that's something I can understand and can get behind.

FYI, not everyone is comfortable using Facebook. Some people find their practices negligent and self serving at best, appalling at worst. Some people have never understood why a company or website would go to such great pains to drive their users away to someone else. Some people were very disappointed when Facebook was integrated into the DSi and extremely pleased when it wasn't in the 3DS. *raises hand*

Let's keep it that way.

This just begs the question: Where my Netflix at??

Also, I'm assuming / hoping that Netflix will use a dedicated client and not the eShop as here.

A red ring around the disc slot would automatically make it stand out from the Wii.
Nintendo 360?

For these videos they need a "Watch now" button to play it as it streams. All this *poke* *poke* *poke* *wait* *wait* *wait* just to watch a trailer for a crappy SFX movie is so tedious these days.

How spoiled am I?

:Q  They really know how to turn the screws. I've been having a hard enough time boycotting the 3DS over the insultingly ludicrous EULA & ToS attached to it. Now this is just playing dirty.

Online in Mario Kart DS was a rather humbling experience for me. I know for a fact that Mr. Bivens runs in the Plaid class. Though back in the day I did pretty damn good against friends, my feeble skills were no match for guys like him. Curses! :P: :

A great game and essential entry in the series that can easily carry the weight of being called #1.

What's the Power Saver for, why should I turn it off, i mean it saves power doesen't it? what are the cons on the power saver, what exactly is it?
I read the manual but I didn't get it so well :@
Some sort of dynamic brightness/contrast. Looks great with it off, but the battery is already overworked so I always kept it on...

Until I picked up the Nyko battery. Much betterer. Certainly not ODS or DS lite performance, but definitely puts an end to that feeling of WTF every time the power LED turns red. Although it reduces portability significantly and adds noticeable weight while playing. I was already worried about marks left on the 3D screen by the touch screen rim pressing against it when placed in a hip pocket. With the extra girth of the Power Pak+ carrying a 3DS like that is not something you'll want to do.

Meteos, one of the most over-rated piles ever made, over Phantom Hourglass? Well, this list is ruined right out of the gate. ;)

While never my favorite game, this is the one that made me believe in the 3DS. Bring it on!

Though the "shooter" missions in Pilot Wings Resort make me a little leery of my ability to keep the 3DS still enough to enjoy the 3D effect in such an action heavy game as SF64. :(

Stylus location is not optimal as in the DS. It might be as far away from optimal as it could get in fact. Fortunately using the ol' thumbs instead works like a charm (most of the time). Maybe being an iPhone veteran helps in that regard.

Don't care for the low quality images. The 3D effect loses something when both images aren't quite in sync. More noticeable in darker images, and especially when compared to high quality 3D images viewed on the 3DS. Only so much you can do with tiny cameras though.

Mostly I don't like having to wait for the late May update. Let's go already! ;D
