YouTube App Now Available on Wii
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:11:42 PM »

The free application can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/32497

A YouTube application is now available for download on the the Wii.

The new app, which debuted earlier today, can be downloaded on the Wii Shop Channel for free, and has been heavily optimized for Wii Remote use.

Watch a short demonstration of the new app below.

I'm a staff writer here at good ol' Nintendo World Report, but I also have a Nintendo website at www.nintendogamerthoughts.com

about 50 hours or so until the launch of the Wii U?   Oh, that's not late at all!

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

Guess when they were working on Wii U's version they decided to throw some bone to Wii owners. I used it, and it works well, unlike the PS3 version which was very buddy.

I'd prefer one that let us view 3d videos on the 3ds, but oh well, hopefully that's coming.

Really?  I've used the PS3 version quiet a bit and I haven't ran into a bug yet.  I really like how they do the letter completion type stuff.

I am surprised that no-one is making mention of the fact that you have to perform a Wii System Update to retrieve this channel.

In fact NO ONE AT ALL is mentioning the system update. Even the Wikipedia article on Wii updates does not detail this. I'll have to go ask the homebrew community what's up, it seems.

I do like the PS3 Youtube app simply because I can find the video on my iPod and have it appear on the screen. Which, is probably how the Wii U version will be.

Holy ****.

Kirby's Adventure, Kid Icarus, and DIY Showcase on the front page.

We have some things in common.

This channel isn't available in Europe yet, though, which disappointed me ever so slightly.

Maybe because no one cares? Seriously, it's not a big deal. Just update your system.

Pretty sure the system update includes the stuff needed to transfer stuff to the Wii U.

I really don't care how long this took I am just glad that this is here because now I can have easier means of watching youtube videos instead of embeding them on forums and then using my Wii to watch those videos on the forum when I want to watch something with everyone in the living room.As to why this took so long it probably had to do with issues with Adobe and updating their flash player for console type devices. So Nintendo had to come up with this themselves.

As for the application itself the interface is simple and easy to move around in. You can use the Plus and Minus buttons to scroll through things quicker.During songs you can use the D pad left and right to go back and forth through the videos and you can go back a video by using the Plus and minus buttons.

So I've been using this for a day or so, and I have to say, the picture quality is pretty good for Wii (provided, of course, that the source material is good), though not quite up there with HD devices in terms sharpness (not a completely fair comparison) or color saturation. The interface is good (the Wiimote makes for better navigation than a standard remote), but unfortunately the keyboard is not supported. Audio quality is good as well, with clear stereo. One issue I've noticed is that when one video proceeds automatically to the next, the upper overlay seems to stick around until the pointer is waved over the screen. Overall, a good experience, certainly better than using the Wii browser.
