Well, the guys who make Madden for the Wii are saying there will be a Madden 13. (https://twitter.com/#!/wiimakemadden), so the Wii is not totally dead. It's still depressing.

Obligatory question since we're talking about Liverpool: what do you really think about Luis Suarez?

To be fair, there are some who might argue the life of the Wii platform has indeed come to an end.

Not if there are still games being released on it.

Nintendo Revolution!
Nintendo Revolution!
NINTENDO FREAKN' REVOLUTION

Don't you know? The Revolution has already been televised. In blurry SD resolution and waggle in front of you.

Call it Wii 2.

Or Yuu.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Finished it moments ago. I have to say overall I loved the game. It had its mixture of good and bad things. Unfortunately most of the bad things are so egriegous that I probably won't be playing this game again. Fight the Imprisioned 3 times? SERIOUSLY? But the good kept me going though.

Good.
-Loved the motion controls. It really made the experience better and I felt like my swordplay was getting better as the game progressed.
-I didn't mind the silent realm areas.
-The Lanayru area was brilliant!
-The story really tied together nicely. In fact it was the only thing that kept me going through the finish
-Sky Keep was excellent as a final dungeon.
-Levias is such a bad ass.

Bad
-Too. Many. Fetch. Quests.
-My god look at all that padding!
-Fi was grating, but at least I was able to tune her out.
-Oh hey you're telling me what an Amber Relic is for the 9098059048598th time.
-The harp was so clunky, I hate it so much.
-Dreaded going into the Sealed Grounds because I thought everytime I went there I'd have to fight the Imprisioned.
-The final two bosses were a huge letdown. I think part of what made them "challenging" was the fact that you'd strike blindly trying to find a specific pattern or way to make damage. Once you figured it out it was so easy.

Overall it's a great game. Sadly it's just one I'm not going to play again.

... im not ready to play another fire emblem since I played Radiant dawn recently but when i do play again im following KDR's lead and just dropping the game if i cant continue since I lost too many hours of my life resetting.

I hear ya. Radiant Dawn was absolutely brutal at times. I felt the same way when I finished it.

Congrats on 4 years guys. I've been listening for only 1 year, but I do have to say that I eagerly await every new episode. It's become part of my Monday morning routine.

Ross and Vanessa can be difficult to keep alive early game, simply because of their low starting HP, but both will be very useful assets later on so I recommend trying to keep them alive. Ross in particular can become one of the most powerful characters in the game if you stick with him for long enough, its just difficult getting through those early levels when he's a bit too weak to kill guys.

Yeah, I had that feeling about Ross as soon as I got him in the game. I've never been a big fan of Pegasus Knights in any FE game, so I don't know how much I'll use her once I start getting more characters into my group.

Part of the joy of Fire Emblem games is turning those weak characters into unstoppable killing machines. I loved getting Nino in the first North-America FE game and using some of the abilities and potions on her. You never know when you're going to run into a character that has insanely high growths and will destroy everyone in its path.

Well, I breezed through the first 4 chapters easily, but seems like I hit the first wall in chapter 5. It's insane how pathetically weak some of these guys are, and how careful/precise you have to be in your movement across the map.

TalkBack / Re: No Tiger Woods on Wii This Year
« on: January 10, 2012, 06:38:01 PM »
In principle this is bullshit, but the fact is we all know how these EA sports games go. Each year they come out with yet another reiteration but very little changes aside from roster updates and minor things here and there. That said, this isn't some huge loss. If you have the 2K11 or 2K10 or 2K09 version or whatever its all pretty much the same crap.

EA at least tried to add some Wii-specific mini games, plus the entire "All-Play" mechanism they implemente on all their games. But that was back when they cared. The Tiger Woods mini games were entertaining, disc golf was fun, etc. I actually prefer Madden on the Wii because of the point and pass controls. I just wished the games weren't so gimped on the simulation aspects.

The biggest culprit isn't EA. 2k had the nerve to release NBA 2k12 on the Wii with no online or updates, no rookies and roster updates from the end of the previous season. It is essentially the final roster update from 2k11, repackaed and sold as a new game.

Total bullcrap. Tiger Woods with Wii Motion Plus is as good as any golf game could ever get. EA could easily implement online functions to the Wii version if it ever bothered to give it more than 1% attention it got.

Of course I'm saying Fire Emblem. I'm knee deep in a backlog of games (must.finish.Skyward.Sword) I'm starting to get into my thesis, and I have plenty of work to do. But of course I can devote 20+ hours for Fire Emblem.

I've also never played The Sacred Stones.  :-\

This podcast brought back some good memories, I had to dig up my crate of N64 stuff.
-Crappy third-party controller? Check (clear neon green to boot!)
-Wasted many hours on Shadows of the Empire, Diddy Kong Racing and WCW/NWO World Tour
-Still have a fairly good collection: Mario Kart, OoT, Majora's gold cartridge, Goldeneye and World is Not Enough. DK64.

Good time...good times.

The GBA Fire Emblem is a great entry point into the series. I haven't played any of the other portable entries in the series, but I assume they keep the same feel, only making things a little harder.

Path of Radiance beats out Radiant Dawn only because in RD you're stuck with the Dawn Brigade for so long. For me the characters were so awful I basically ended up babying them through most of the chapters so they wouldn't die on me. I'm sure that ended up hurting me when it came time to level them up.

Characters I'd like to see in the new Smash Bros:
-Battletoads
-Bomberman
Of course, never gonna happen.

Glad to see some Fire Emblem discussion!

"We're in a tight spot" indeed, sir.

The shooting mechanic is so clumsy, it somewhat ruins the joy you would have in killing all of the Heaven Smile. Hitting their weak spot is a thrill, but the aiming is so spotty it's frustrating.

3694
I voted for Killer 7 because I remember being really pumped up for it when it was first announced, along with most of the Capcom 5. The collection of bad reviews afterwards turned me off completely for the time being. But now with this poll it gives me the chance to finally give it a fair chance. I have no idea what to expect from it, but I'll play through it...

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Modern Warfare 3 to the Wii

It's good news but Activision would port MW to a ham sandwich if they could figure out how to plug it in so this was pretty much a done deal already.

You'll be to blame when I'm eating COD with mustard on Rye.

I've always been curious to see how the Wii COD efforts stack up in terms of sales with the HD versions. It's a plus for us though.

Good day to everyone. Latest new guy here. Name's Joel. Recent listener of the podcast and frequent reader of this site since I found it a couple of months ago.

As  a little kid me and my dad went shopping once, we picked Nintendo over Sega, and that's how my loyalty to Nintendo started. All of the home consoles, most of the handhelds, plenty of awesome, regular and terrible games. Lived through it. Now that I'm getting older the time I have for gaming keeps shrinking, but I still try and find some time for that love. I'm mostly a sports and racing gamer, but right now my game log has everything from no more heroes to tastsunoko vs. capcom, goldeneye, animal crossing, dawn of discovery, etc. Love gaming oddities, or maybe I'm slowing turning into a retro gamer. Don't know.

Anyway, I've been loving this site since I found it. Haven't missed an RFN podcast since I found it in early January. Nice to be here and I hope I can post some more.

And yes, Fire Emblem FTW.
