Here, here.

Also, I see stevey once again correctly deduced that... oh wait, scratch that. Wrong again.

Foolish mafia. Did I do anything to harm you yesterday? My voting was ineffective since I was not gunning for you. There was no new information gained by death. I already told you I was a townie. And quite frankly, I think I was a larger distraction than help. Oh well. At least we got to waste each other's time.

On the plus side, GP's arguement of me always killing her in mafia games now has another hole in it.

Welcome Dasmos. I wish we were meeting in better circumstances of course. But that's problem with mafia players these days. They just don't understand greatness. But don't let it get you down. Just remember, they don't deserve you. You're too good for them. They're all just jealous.

Frankly, if I didn't know any better, I'd think the rabble was rising up against the establishment. Trying to bring down the grand aristocractic mafia players so that the common folk players can try and feel big about themselves. I can only hope the remaining vangaurd of intelligent players can squash this radical display of equality and dictate the correct plays to make. Democracy? Phooey.

lol whoops. i guess i read my role pm wrong. i thought it said mafia, but i guess it was townie. easy mistake, right?

It's funny that stevey was the smart one regarding my PM. Also the mafia should have this in the bag, if they play it smart. The townies are dumb.

No, I'm voting for you because the Mafia is made up of...

Khush="Ol' Dirty" Brown Paddle, Thatguy="Crimson" Red Paddle, Vudu="Elusive Lucy" the Clear Paddle, Maxi="Godfather" Black Paddle.

Maxi too quiet and  KhushxThatguy are acting too cocky in trying to find mafia members.

2 for 2. Way too go stevey! Got any more solid leads?

You've got to lighten up on things Maxi. Heck, as much as stevey and I trade barbs and accusations at one another, I still like the guy and can laugh when he takes a shot at me. Like earlier in this thread just today. Sometimes you make a dumb mistake. But if you can learn to joke about faster, it will help you get over it faster as well.

That was my feeling but I locked it anyways to be safe. Hey! Maybe we could have DrewMG drop by our special thread as a special guest to give us his thoughts on what we should do if he isn't around to close things up or how much we should be doing to help. Maybe get your people to contact his people and I'll have my people contact your people in an hour to see what's happening and then we'll work out a time of when we can all contact one another again.

I know the brown paddle is the next godfather, but the mafia generally can't make a hit on the night they lose their godfather.  The brown paddle wouldn't become godfather until today, so there was no one to call in the hit last night.

He clarified it in today's thread if you guys didn't notice. He missed that technicality and since he didn't write it into the rules and has already posted the day with it's reveals he is sticking by that. As much as it sucks to lose the investigator like that, I agree with his decision.

Sorry, GP. I am mad @ the doctor this game. Who is he protecting? (watch, the doc is protecting me or something as I act like a total ingrate ;) )

Maybe the Mafia got their hit in before the protection GP.

Just wanted to clarify on this point, as long as we are talking about the rules of this specific game:

I am not playing the "timestamp" game for the mafia hit/doctor save.

The doctor gets to save a player who's been hit even if s/he get's their PM to me at 6:59 AM.

The doctor did not save GP last night, much to the townie's chagrin.  It wasn't a matter of timing.

As far as negating mafia hits go, it's a game-to-game thing, which depends on the host.  Typically, if the godfather has something special about him, for example, if he automatically appears as a townie, when he dies, the hit's lost that night, I believe.  Whenever the godfather doesn't have that specific ability, it's a toss-up for the host to choose.

Anyways, now that GP's dead, I can say this:

I can't believe I was voted out the same day I was "verified" by the investigator!  Sure, my results turned out incorrect with that, but still, no one brought up the whole mafia ability to manipulate investigation results, and I still died!  It led me to believe that had this been a normal game, and I were actually a "verified" townie, I'd have been killed, too, which is definitely crazy...

Anyways, the game's still going.  We'll see what happens now.

Even if there was a time stamp race, I sent the hit well before the doctor would think to send in their action.

According to the published rules for this game

---

* The voting day will begin between 7 and 9 AM CST, and end at 11 PM CST nightly.
    * Night actions will not be accepted until night begins at 11 PM CST (this is a change from my last game)
    * Night actions will be processed in the order they are received.

---

Note the highlighted portion. I believe Drew had thrown himself a bit too much rope. Technically my hit never should have occurred as I did send in the hit 4 days in advance, beating any time race.

However I did send in the hit during the night, just not the same night as the hit. So either way, Golden Phoenix dies, and there was NOTHING the townies could have done about it.

That, by fellow forum goers, has to be the longest hit in mafia history.

However given the international nature of of the game time stamping and basing night actions in the order they are received (and when they can be received) can be an advantage/disadvantage depending on where you live. But it is up to individual hosts to figure this out for themselves and that makes it fun. There will always be loopholes. But as long as the host sticks by their own precedent, it's ok.

And no, I am not becoming a Bloody Fucking Lawyer. Pilot all the way.

This is true, oohhboy sent the hit in a full game-day earlier than the hit was to take place.  Now, according to the spirit of my established rule, I should have disallowed this.  I really meant it when I said not to send in night actions until 11 PM (the night of the intended action.  come on, that should be implied).  However, what I found was that EVERYONE disregarded this.  By EVERYONE, I mean about 75% of the players sent in night actions sometime during the day.  I had a choice - I could either stick to my guns and rule them ineligible, or I could just let that rule slide for everyone.  I chose not to try to ignore night actions for the sake of "making a point" and thus began to get very flexible with when I allowed them.  In retrospect, I should have told oohhboy that he needed to resubmit that hit, but I don't think it would have mattered, he would have submitted the same hit anyways.  If the doctor had acted, it would have saved GP.  When I said that night actions will be processed in the order they are received, I didn't really mean that to mean that the doctor HAD to submit their action before the mafia in order to do their job.  I simply meant that in the event that two night actions superceded each other, then one would take precedent over the other.  To be honest, I'm not even sure what scenario that would entail, as I've clearly established that the doctor's action can come AFTER the hit.  I just wanted to cover my bases.  Anyways, that's the way it's played in traditional mafia.  The story that the narrator tells is that the doctor came across the dying player and saves his life.  What good is a doctor to a townie who hasn't yet been attacked?

Quote
However given the international nature of of the game time stamping and basing night actions in the order they are received (and when they can be received) can be an advantage/disadvantage depending on where you live. But it is up to individual hosts to figure this out for themselves and that makes it fun. There will always be loopholes. But as long as the host sticks by their own precedent, it's ok.

It's not really a loophole, as I established earlier.  I took your night action a day in advance because most of the players weren't following by the "wait until the night of" rule that I established, so I stopped enforcing it.

Like I said, if the doctor had submitted the action to save GP, she would have been saved.  The only way that the doctor can be prevented on any given night is if the mafia hits THEM.

No, I'm not kidding.  He thought I was running the game just for today, and sent me the hit, too.  I thought it was kind of funny.

It doesn't matter.  The question isn't whether oohhboy placed the night action--it's whether it should count since he technically died before the action was carried out.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter because Drew already made the call--night actions go through regardless of if the godfather dies that day.

Hence why I said this

---

There will always be loopholes. But as long as the host sticks by their own precedent, it's ok.

---

If you were going to let the rules fall one way or the other, stick to it. It would have been true that I would have resubmitted the same action if I was requested to do so, but seeing Drew had explained the inner workings, the actions that night(s) wasn't a loophole as the precedent was established internally.

For future games, please pick one or the other. Either play race the time stamp or have a clear order of action. Had the doctor protected GP, this would have been one of those situations that should have invoked the second highlighted rule.

---

"Doc" Yellow Paddle, who can save the life of any mafia-hit player, once per night, if the player he chooses to protect is the same player the mafia chooses to hit.  He cannot, however, protect himself.

---

While it is true Doc's intro/rule doesn't have a time element, you did introduce a time element in subsequent rules. A rule even the host didn't know what to do with!

Had the Doc protected GP, GP should have been killed as the hit was before any possible protection. While it was implied actions should have been sent for the same night, it was never stated. Nor was the hit rejected for being sent in too early.

The final result would have been messy had the doc protected GP. By Drew own admission, my action was accepted the day before. There was a time stamp rule. It would have resulted in GP becoming Schrödinger's cat. My death was a given, but GP could have been both dead or alive when Drew decided either way. Or Drew could have just refused to open the box(throwing the day out). Had Drew asked me to resubmit, this issue might have been avoided.

Future hosts should be careful with time elements and rule(s) they don't intend to enforce and never imply rules or base them on tradition or unrelated games. Each game should be played rule wise, be separate unrelated universes with their own universal constants.

In any case, Drew decided to end the stand off with everyone involved dead.

What's all the noise going on out here? It's start to disrupt the torture that's being committed in my office in this fine establishment. Someone owes us a lot of money.

Godfather hits? Established rule?

Ha ha ha. No. DrewMG has done nothing wrong in allowing the godfather hit. Silly mafia players. Have you forgotten the uproar that was started when I first began blocking godfather hits in mafia games when he was voted out? That is a rule I created for my games. All the early mafia games allowed the godfather to make his hit if he was voted out that day. If anything, that is the established rule. I changed that when I hosted. The way I viewed the seperation of night and day, I always thought it was weird for the godfather to make a hit on the same day he was voted out. So, I took away the hit if he was killed as a little bonus to the townies for making such a good vote. After all, the godfather is often the hardest to pin down since he can not be investigated.

When I did this, people were upset since other games let the godfather still make the hit. But I guess with all the games I've hosted it's changed everyone's perception into expecting the godfather to lose his hit. I know a few other hosts have used this same idea as well. But not all. Usually, anyone who uses this method mentions it in the rules. So, if there is no mention of the godfather losing his hit, don't expect it. That said, I guess every host will have to mention whether the godfather can make a hit voted or not in the rules.

That's all. That and the fact that I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.

Who side are you playing for? DrewMG clearly divided what happens during the day and night + at what time the relativity actions are sent at the night too. Because the hit has to be after polls close before hits can be sent in and oohhboy dies when polls close (especially with the vote nullification power gone), oohhboy couldn't have sent in a hit.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Basing actions on times does not work well for mafia games. Making a voting deadline and action deadline is the only role time should play in a mafia game. Especially when you have an international assortment of players like we do. Time can create an unfair advantage or disadvantage to players.

I am in no violation of my own established rules, other than the part where I allowed people to submit night actions early.  I never intended for the Doctor's action to be a race against time.  If you had highlighted the second rule, I would have shrugged and said "Fine, tell me where I gave a power to a role that I said was time sensitive?"  I didn't ever give any such power, and even if I made the bad choice of including the second highlighted rule above, that doesn't really change anything.

Quote
While it is true Doc's intro/rule doesn't have a time element, you did introduce a time element in subsequent rules. A rule even the host didn't know what to do with!

An unfortunate coincidence, but as you said in the first half of your sentence, the role does not have a time element.

Agreed, it would have been messy, but I would have ruled GP's hit invalid due to the doctor, and no matter how early you sent it in, it wouldn't have mattered because the Doctor's rule has no time limit, no matter how much you think it is implied.

Quote
Future hosts should be careful with time elements and rule(s) they don't intend to enforce and never imply rules or base them on tradition or unrelated games. Each game should be played rule wise, be separate unrelated universes with their own universal constants.

In any case, Drew decided to end the stand off with everyone involved dead.

No disagreements here.  I probably should have responded to every action submitted early and told them they needed to resubmit them in the proper time, but then 75% of the players would have had their plays rejected and I didn't think anyone would be particularly happy with that result.

Perhaps the rule I mentioned about actions being processed in the order they are received should never have been stated, but as I never specifically stated what roles had time based elements, it really isn't a rule I didn't enforce, it's a rule I didn't define.

In the end, it's a bit unfortunate that there are these kinds of misunderstandings, but I don't think that my decisions are entirely unreasonable.  Hopefully there won't be anymore such misunderstandings.

For future reference, I will be consistent in this decision - the doctor's action does not need to be cast before the hit to be effective.  Otherwise he would be a bulletproof vest, not a doctor.

Really though, apologies to all the players involved for this unfortunate scenario.  Let's hope the rest of the game comes out clean.  I am going to officially put to rest the rule where you have to submit night actions at night.  If you submit them early that is okay, as long as I am clear on when you are meaning the night action to take place.

Doesn't change the fact that they are in this game and the hit should have been blocked

As GP's role has already been revealed, there's not much we can do about it but move on.  If I had stuck to my original rule about the times, then I tend to agree.  I've already admitted to my mistake, but there's not much we can do about it other than continue to play the game.

I will try to be much more specific about rules and roles in my future games, trust me.

Right--and I just happen to know the doctor was going to protect me.  Fat chance.

Also, the dead aren't supposed to interfere with the game.

How in the world is it time? What is the difference in our timezones? I thought I had 30 mins left?

I had to leave and come back to a locked thread at 9:28 my time (Pacific). I thought there was an hour difference between my time and the hosts time. There isn't even a post by the mod declaring 'time is up'.

Well, with Nickmitch dying from inactivity, that makes up for the blocked mafia hit and puts us back into a quicker finish. Now, if the vote it is wrong today and protection fails, then we'll have a tense, four man, winner-take-all standoff. That's what I'm hoping for now. It's all about sideline entertainment.

Even if the townies get it right this vote, one more townie can possibly die. The Godfather doesn't lose his hit. But since it is the last mafia member, wouldn't that mean that there is no one to execute the hit and so no townie should die?

I'm just wondering how that will pan out.

Stratos the last time Drew signed in was 9:30 pm yesterday.I think you sent  your PM around 1 am. He hasn't been able to check his PMs since you PMed him.

As far as winning I say we just let this day sit till tonight. If he hasn't signed in and started the next day/Wrap up then we bug him. Get the staff to get him.

Anyway back to watching Pokemon Battle Revolution videos for me.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

I'm happy with thinking pokepal148 is just eating a stick of butter. It seems about right for him. I don't need no stinking facts.

sorry guy, had a fever the past day or so, so I slept in to try to get better sooner.  Completely forgot about how that would affect Mafia.  I'll get it up soon, promise.
