« on: May 21, 2004, 12:41:29 PM »
In other news, Sony drops down to third in the console race and pigs learn how to grow hair through their nostrils at exponential rates.

ARTICLE, MON

First paragraph pisses me off. >=O  They say there are no surprises this E3 the sentance before they mention the new zelda.  tell, me did ANYONE predict that one?

You can go ahead and let this thread die I suppose.  I just wanted to share.

Paragraph in question:

Quote

LOS ANGELES -- With strong lineups for all its systems and the debut of its new handheld platform the Nintendo DS, Nintendo's E3 showing this year certainly isn't lacking in luster. The GameCube may not have any shocking announcements or surprise titles, and we didn't have a chance to play the new, more mature "Zelda" game we glimpsed at the press-conference, but we're not at all disappointed with what we did get our hands on.

It is indeed quite puzzling, although I don't think the article downplayed Nintendo at all. Still, though, I wonder who wrote it.

Many members of the press knew about the new Zelda before the show so it wasn't technically a surprise for them.  I think it's kind of arrogant for them to weigh "surprises" against their own secret insider info since to most people at the conference it was a surprise.  Gamespy for example totally downplayed the impact of the new Zelda since they knew about it already which is as ridiculous as peeking at your Christmas presents ahead of time and then complaining about no surprises.

Anyway aside from the oddity of not treating the new Zelda as a surprise this article is mostly positive about the Cube.

Uglydot says he doesn' t care.  Nintendo put out fun games.  Nintendo announced an interesting system.  Uglydot is happy.

What's Nintendo supposed to do? Shoot the people who leak the info and the ones that received it? Sorry, but Don Yamauchi retired some time ago.

Actually, I love X Play: they're unbiased, fair, informative, and funny. That's why I was worried when TechTV and G4 merged, because I was afraid X Play would get the axe (like Call For Help did ).

And besides Halo 2 and Fable, both of which we already know about, what did Xbox have?

Breaking:
Microsoft wants to buy out Reggie!
A Microsoft official was quoted as saying "We can't let Nintendo have any good stuff, we must buy everything until they fail"! He then went back to feeding virgins to his pet demon. This announcement came shortly after people in a discussion on PlanetGameCube complained about the XBox' lackluster lineup for the next year.

JADE EMPIRE, Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, Unreal Championship 2 ( voted by Xplay to be best online shooter or something like that last night ), The Chronicles of Riddick ( supposedly the best looking Xbox game ), that Band of Brothers type game , DOOM 3 ( only the Xbox version got shown at E3 ), Mercenaries ( that got another Xplay E3 award ), Star Wars: Battlefront ( another Xplay award ), Star Wars Republic Commando ( another Xplay award ), FULL SPECTRUM WARRIOR ( this is definitely one I want. Designed specifically for the Xbox and funded by the US Army to act as a squad simulator / trainer. ).
Destroy All Humans, etc.
Just look at the E3 awards nominees, the Xbox has alot in almost all categories.

Let me rephrase that question:  What did Xbox have that would force me to buy it>?  A lot of those games will come out for my PC.

Stunt Race FX on Super NES has better graphics than my PC. Maybe Nintendo should call the people from X-Plaaaaay out at the next E3 and go "HEY HEY HEY HEY SECRET SURPRISE FOR YOU" and give them a whoopee cushion and hat.
