Region: What Gives?
« on: October 20, 2003, 01:20:20 AM »
I am going to buy 2 GameCubes for my nephews - one lives in Sydney, Australia and the other lives in Hong Kong.

Do I need to buy 2 different units? What are the differences between the GC sold in Hong Kong or Sydney?

Sydney is PAL, but I am not sure about HK - I think it is also PAL as they generally follow the UK system.

If I buy in HK can the unit be used in Sydney or vice versa (..if I buy in Sydney can I use it in Hong Kong)...?

I know the alternative is Freeloader.

Anyone know the answer?

All PAL games can be played on any PAL cube, no matter where it's from. However, from what I heard the Cube was never released in China and there are no plans to do so.

Thanks Termin8Anakin. Yes - the sheds - I used to have one shed and I mentioned to someone that I was thinking of getting another shed - but that's not important!! I want to talk about the games (I think I'll get rid of the sheds...).

If I understand rightly, there is only one flavour of PAL games (and cube), so a PAL gamecube can run in Australia, UK, Hong Kong or any other PAL country...?

Thanks for the feedback

All I can tell you is that years back, I got a friend of mine to buy me some Mega Drive games when he went to Hong Kong. He came back with Pulseman, Rockman World and Sonic 2. Not in English, but they ran on my PAL console.

So yeah, there's only one PAL. It'll run Aussie, European, HK, NZ and even games fron Brazil if you so desire.
