I'll add that shrines act as teleport centers. So if there are "a hundred shrines" then getting around the map should be easy enough.

Not sure how I feel about weapon degradation and food.

I like how food restores health, but I dont really like that weapons break. But after watching some of the treehouse stuff, there are weapons everywhere, so its not so bad.

So is this a thing to get excited about?  I mean, Zelda games are pretty consistently good... but I'm still one or two behind the curve so not really in a rush.  Is E3 over yet?

Not sure if it was talked about in Treehouse live but has there been any mention made as to the significance of the Master Sword looking beat-up and rusty in the logo and end of trailer?

Nope. No story was given out other than Ganon returning. You could infer things from the ruins and the existence of those tree sprites that it's after Windwaker. How long? No idea. But the existence of technology kinda throws everything into question considering the last time we had tech was in Skyward Sword.

I would say it signifies how the kingdom has fallen into disrepair and nature has began to take over, shown by the little plant sprouting out of the Z and the subtitle its self; Breath of the Wild.

Read a bit of Chris Kohler's impressions on Twitter. The Sheikah Slate was obviously supposed to represent the GamePad, but Kohler only had the button layout on the second screen. The game may well have some kind of map/inventory functionality but it's very obvious Nintendo is making this a single screen experience.

Looks amazing!

Looks like this is after Wind Waker. Like really far after even Spirit Track. The technology looks far advanced. The Blue Tunic. I'm gonna hazard a guess that this after the flood recedes and this is "Old Hyrule". Also this Link is from another game.

Also this Link is from another game.

Yeah the beginning with Link coming out of that pod and in a place that even has resurrection in it's name is pretty interesting.  So place your bets folks, which Link got revived?

My bet is this is the Hero of Time Link that died in the Hero Fails timeline.  For whatever reason he's been revived in the future of the Wind Waker timeline.  Since the game looks to be in the future and contain lots of weird technology, finding ways to bring characters from different timelines together would definitely fit the setting of the game.  Hell, maybe Nintendo is going to find a way to unite all 3 timelines by the end of this game so using the Hero of Time again would be fitting since Ocarina of Time was the start of the split to begin with.  This way the one Link that failed gets to redeem himself in a big way.  Maybe that's why the game takes place in the far future so this way they'll have some room to put 2D handheld titles in the other timelines at various spots but from here on out the main 3D games will take place in the future of the new united timeline spot.

Plus this also gives Nintendo a very good reason to tell the people who're angry their no female Link, why they shouldn't.  If this Link is indeed a previous Link, then he kind of has to be a man since the previous Link was a man as well.

While I don't care about Fem-Link either way, it would seem this makes the most sense. If Link is Hero of Time Link or even the one from Skyward Sword (probably not since they said Ganon and not Demise) then girl option would make no sense.

I'll be honest, I really wasn't excited for this game going into E3. Zelda's maybe my least favorite Nintendo franchise, I never started Skyward Sword and I barely touched the couple before it. But Nintendo has absolutely hooked me in with this showing. I've felt compelled to go back and watch the trailer numerous times now, and I've gone from "Eh, I'll probably get it, since I buy basically everything" to "I need this now!" It's even got me excited about the series that I'm about ready to plunk down the money for Twilight Princess HD.

Ok where to begin? Just know that for me I do get fairly excited for Zelda titles but they have always been much farther down on the ladder in my favorites list. It was probably TP that finally cooled me down on the franchise, I still haven't finished A Link Between Worlds. I loved the motion controls and puzzles in Skyward Sword, absolutely loved them but over all I just don't love the entire game like I do Tropical Freeze, Majoras Mask or Galaxy. Being so limited in flight really bothered me to. Zelda has just been feeling really dated to me.

First impression with the latest trailer wasn't so great. Mainly because I looked at some animations and didn't think they were too hot. Once the tree house started going I realized that Zelda has finally caught up with the rest of the world! I know some folks are really against voice acting and even though there were only like 3 lines of dialogue so far, in the grand scheme voice acting will just give Zelda far more positive mind share in the minds of people who don't normally play Nintendo. It just will. The girl speaking telepathically(probably Zelda) sounded wonderful and I can't wait to hear more!

Link just woke up in the middle of no where and the game said go! Come on now how awesome is that?! It's like Zelda 1 and 2 all over again! How long have so many of us been complaining about the long boring openings?! Don't you just want to shout YABADABADOO!!!?

The landscape is so envititing and so vertical! Being able to climb almost anything is so wonderful! I really do hope by the end of the game we get a bird to ride on, sure warping will come in place but I think being able to traverse such a vast landscape with a new Loftwing would be ideal at some point. Being able to see something in the distance and actually being able to go and explore it really excites me! All that classic NES Zelda art is alive in this new game!

Normally Animations in 3D Zelda games are just lame looking to me but after watching more I really like how far they come. Particularly how Link and his enemies get hit and fall to the ground. It's not perfect but it just looks so much better than some of the previous stuff we've had. The Mokoblin's seem to have the WW life again, I don't remember much about them in the last few games only that they seemed "less" than the moblins of WW who would fight amongst themselves, run from bombs, etc. I do like their looks as well. The pig faces and red booties stand out and I can clearly see who and what they are. Nothing bothers me more than looking at an enemy and not being able to make out its face. I didn't mind the red moblin troll things of SS but these new red piggys are just so much better looking.

Link's abilties remind me of Mario 64, like as soon as you begin you can just do all these things and you just figure out where and how to do them! Oh it just makes me so excited! So glad stealing weapons is a thing now and look how Link stores some of it on his back! Such a nice touch! I assume things like the Master Sword, Hook Shoot and certain items found in actual dungeons won't deteriorate so having the open world items fall apart isn't a big deal with so many enemies around!
Also did you notice the stealth portions really look meaningful this time around? Sneaking up on animals for food or enemies keeping your sound down just looks so fun!

I don't even know what else to say. The game looks inviting and oh so fun with sooo much freedom! It's a world I really want to explore and haven't been this hyped for a Zelda game since TP and that game burned me real good.

Just read a few pieces from a Time interview. This game is being made by younger team while the traditional Zelda team has stepped aside. First Splatoon and now this.

Here Ian you will love this:

The group of new staff actually would ask us, like ‘Well I know that it’s been done, traditionally, in other Zelda titles, but why does it have to be that way?’ And among those questions there were some I just couldn’t answer, that I didn’t know the answer to myself. That was because I just took those things on as a tradition, and I didn’t really know why the tradition existed.

When you think about it, maybe those things really didn’t need to be there in the modern world, those traditions. So I started destroying these traditions I’d inherited in the series one by one.

I'm hearing the game could be around the size of Xenoblade X. I'm certain the Loftwing will return. Either it or some other winged beast. Hopefully the glider doesn't get upgraded to full airplane mode, I want another flying animal.

But, but, but.. it's tradition! If you start destroying tradition, than you might as well just make it a new IP. Zelda = Flop confirmed.

On a more serious note, I agree with a lot of what Caterkiller said. Twilight Princess sort of burned me out on Zelda as well. Since the time I played it back on Gamecube, I've played just 2 other Zelda games which are Link's Awakening when it released on 3DS VC and Phantom Hourglass. Of the two, I actually liked PH more. I dug the stylus controls. It got me excited again in Zelda and I was ready to play Spirit Tracks next but decided to save it since it was the only other stylus controlled title. I've had an itch to play a Zelda game lately and I've been contemplating starting Link Between Worlds or Skyward Sword finally. But I would start with this game immediately if I could. This trailer has me really excited to play a Zelda title again. I think it looks great as well.

Is it confirmed that the this Link is from another game or are people just grasping at straws? Cause I heard very little in terms of story so far. I want to see the receipts.

Aonuma has already explained why they didn't include gender options. It's a BS explanation and I think it's ok for people to be pissed. If you can't make Link female, and you can't make Zelda the main character because you literally can't think of anything else to do with Link if he's not the one doing all the hero stuff then fine, whatever. This is the 18th mainline Zelda game and it they want to keep telling the same story over and over again then go ahead.

But that speaks volumes, and you can't expect people to just take that at face value because it says "we don't know what do with Zelda if she's not just sitting in a castle/getting kidnapped or playing an extremely limited support role and we can't have Link doing those things." That's terrible and Nintendo should do better.

I hope the controversy doesn't die down because putting Linkle in a spin-off and then forgetting about her can't be the only thing that comes out of this.

Well it makes sense because Aonuma has been trying to do unique things with Zelda for a while but Miyamoto would step in to make sure things never went too far.  Hell, Aonuma's original vision of Twilight Princess was suppose to be more open then the final one before Miyamoto took over development and forced huge changed because he wasn't liking were the game was going.  Since Aonuma has finally gotten to a point where he has quite a bit of power at Nintendo himself and Miyamoto has been getting less involved with Zelda, Aonuma is more open to letting younger devs take the series in some radically new directions since Aonuma himself has wanted to do this for years but was never allowed.

I expect a lot of this to happen with Nintendo franchises this next generation.  With Miyamoto letting the older Producers have more power now, they'll probably start making the games they always wanted to make but never could because of his mandates.  Of course the games that Miyamoto decides he personally wants to make like Star Fox Zero will still be at his mercy but it seems most of the other teams are getting more freedom, except for Paper Mario since Miyamoto needs someone to take his hate of stories in videogames out on.

I do like that!  The "formula" for a game series is usually a lot broader than it appears at first glance.  Stuff like the Triforce and the Master Sword and getting the bow and boomerang - those are all details.  You don't have to repeat those every game and I feel sequels get too generic when devs think like that.  Think of what you could remove and still have the game feel like Zelda and that's all fair game to tinker with.  If they did something really drastic like make Zelda turn based, okay, then it doesn't really feel like Zelda anymore.  But this is a game where you can explore the world that is not broken up into sequential levels, with permanent power-ups and real time interaction with the environment.  That's Zelda.

The reason to think it's Link from a previous game is that they've said he's been asleep for 100 years prior to waking up in the beginning of Breath of the Wild. That's not any sort of confirmation (maybe it's a new Link and he was put to sleep because something or someone would prevent him from saving Hyrule in the past, among a number of other possibilities), but that bit of information does make it sound like it could very well be a Link that we're already familiar with.
