The "stuff I made thread"...
« on: May 19, 2008, 03:05:04 AM »
Named "Take It Slow", I created this song in FL Studio 8 today. It's my first song ever made in a program like FL Studio, Garage Band etc (other than just messing around)...

So... here's a link to the podcast page: http://www.garageband.com/user/wulffman04/podcast/main

...tell me what you think.

update: 2nd song "When's It Over?" is up on the link

Nice job!  I really like that filtered bass melody you have in the middle of the track.

i was going to make a joke that involved creating a dupe with the username "dudu" and stealing vudu's avatar. I'd then post as "dudu" the following:

its alright, needs lyrics though. May i recommend these:

AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD

but that requires waaaayy too much effort.

As for your song, i'll be honest, i didn't dig it. It is a first try though, and its not like it was horrible and made my ears or something.

My rating: "the princess is in another castle"

nice, I liked everything from 1:40 on, but the opening was a little too slow for my tastes.

The next one is going to be way more upbeat. Hopefully I'll finish it next weekend (I'm not making any promises, school is a b@#$h right now).

You should use Reason or some other program other than FruityLoops. I use to use it, but realized how insignificant it was compared to some programs like Pro tools.

Thanks

Probably no videos... unless I can make it count for a random school project. Or my friends and I get (really) bored. They at least won't happen for awhile.

I'm trying to complete a second song this weekend... much quicker tempo.

If I decide that this is a hobby I want to keep doing, then I might look into some other software, as well as a midi keyboard and a decent mic.

decent mics cost over $150 don't bother with anything less than that, trust me.

Midi keyboards are so outdated. You can plug any electric piano, keyboard, or whatever into your computer using your sound card, goto radio shack and they will tell you what cables you need.

Aside form that, the good software, Acid, Magix, Garage Band, they are all expensive if you want the good features. As a hobby, frooty loops or whatever it is called should work fine, but is very limited.

Still keep it up, even as a hobby it is always cool to be able to show off a song you made to your friends. Especially if it is a good song people can dance to.

GarageBand isn't expensive, it comes with every Mac and has for the past few years and if you don't have it or want the newest version it's $50 and comes with 4 other useful apps.

Well... we have a lot of Shure 58's sitting around school, I'm sure my band teacher wouldn't mind me borrowing one or two during a couple weekends.

Midi keyboards are needed for live performances... and different sounds/rhythms. I'm not talking about just recording piano into my compy I'm talking about using the keyboard to improvise and such...

I still have to decide on weather I am going to build my own pc this summer or save up and buy a mac (macbook pro would be nice)

So I put up a new song (titled, "When's It Over?")... as you can see... I don't like it.

Someone did mention (on myspace) that the new one sounds like an old video game song (maybe)

So... I didn't make a song this weekend... but we did "Rickroll" cancer!

let me explain... one of our Jazz Bands at school ("The Suitz") does gigs all the time for local parties/events. So Saturday, they played for the "Relay for Life" cancer run/walk, and as they were taking apart the stage they found a copy of rick astley and, naturally, played it.

Here is the horrible quality video (shot by andy kautz, he's going to Berkley school of music, check out his myspace band page:  http://www.myspace.com/aakautz )) Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIkNsinzbO0
