You're missing out on a lot if you keep with your pompous attitude. These shows are meant to be funny, first and foremost. Just take them for what they are and not what you would like them to be, and you will enjoy them.
I don't like what they are. Just because something is intended to be funny doesn't mean that it is. I've learned this through experience.
Fair enough. But I'm curious. What
do you find funny?
Also, do you drink beer? Cuz I hate how Seth MacFarlane makes alcohol use look acceptable. /end stupid statement
Here's the difference: one is legal and one isn't. Please don't tell me you support illegal drug use?
Ok. Let's for a second look at both of these drugs, shall we?
Alcohol is legal and is clinically proven to be a very addictive substance. It can impair your ability to think, talk, walk, and operate a vehicle. While low consumption actually produces more anti-oxidants to scrub your arteries, heavy use can lead to heart disease, nausea, dementia, and cancer (of which pancreatic and liver cancer are the most common). Alcohol is a depressant and can lead to feelings of depression and/or anger. You can overdose on alcohol, or alcohol poisoning, causing your breathing and circulation to your brain to stop. Every year roughly 75,000 people die in the US from alcohol related illnesses, not to mention 30-40% of all traffic fatalities are caused by alcohol (~12,000 people died in 2007).
Marijuana is illegal and has been clinically proven to not be physically addicting. It can impair your ability to think, talk, walk, and operate a vehicle. Consumption of the drug increases appetite and decreases nausea. However, since marijuana effects people differently, people could experience anxiety, restlessness, and paranoia. While smoking marijuana can damage and tar the lungs, it can enter the system in unharmful ways. Marijuana can be served in food or a beverage and if the active ingredient (THC) is harvested, it can be inhaled with vapor. You cannot overdose on marijuana. Furthermore, there has never been a report where marijuana has killed a person. However, the illegal nature of marijuana makes the drug more dangerous due to the nature of the drug trade. But unlike alcohol, Marijuana does have a lot of medical and societal uses. It can relieve pain without causing addiction (unlike all opiates). It increases the appetite and decreases nausea in cancer and aids patients (the number one reason for "wasting away"). It can effectively lower intraocular pressure (main cause for Glaucoma) more than a variety of drugs on the market. It's seed has all the essential amino acids and EFA's. It's stalk and leaves can be made into fibers to create stronger concrete and rope. In 1916, the US Agricultural department stated that paper created with hemp pulp was more favorable than those from wood. Furthermore, one acre of marijuana can produce as much paper as four acres of forest. It also only needs about 1/7 the amount of sulfer based acid (a pollutant) as wood pulp, and completely sidesteps the use of harmful chlorine bleach (which has been known to pollute rivers) with the greener hydrogen peroxide. Henry Ford created the first biodeisel with marijuana. Your founding fathers grew marijuana by the acres.
But I digress. The point I would like to make is that Alcohol use is more dangerous and less useful when compared to marijuana. So to answer your question: Yes, yes I do support a recently illegal drug. Marijuana is our prohibition.
