Game Soundtracks?
« on: August 20, 2004, 01:13:25 AM »
What do you guys think of game soundtracks?  And for those that have Tales of Symphonia Soundtrack does it have the Japanese intro song?

I recently got Ocarina of Time Hyrule Symphony, and Wind Waker Soundtracks.  I loved OoT Hyrule Symphony but Wind Waker bothered me, because it has way too many sound clips and only a handful of really good actual full length songs.

Post up any other Game Soundtrack suggestions if you like too!

I thought the original-pressed Hyrule Symphony releases sold out years ago.  Glad I got mine then.

I have the Wind Waker soundtrack.  Since I don't want to listen to the actual CDs in order to preserve them, I ripped the tracks I liked most and did some WAV editing to double or triple the length of various themes.  Not just simple cut&paste, but connect the right openings and endings of each melody so they looped just like they did in the game.

The F-Zero AX/GX and Metroid Prime soundtracks are still on sale (original release), from Japan.

Can I get a longer version of Dragon Roost island off you Professional? The one on the soundtrack I downloaded is only a minute something long, not long enough for the best song off the soundtrack.

Oh, Personally I don't consider downloading video game soundtracks piracy, I mean geez, I allready bought the entire game, I shouldn't have to pay extra for music in the actual game.
OUT OF DATE.

I only have the Majora's Mask OST (from the star catalogue), there are only remixed versions of Eternal Legend on there, not the original one! Grrr. At least the Hymn of Storm is on it.
Cho Ren Sha has nice music and there's an MDX plugin for Winamp so you can just add the game directory to your playlist...
Serious Sam is neat, too. The music is in OGG format, so you can just extract it into some directory andplay it.
Total Annihilation is damn good, it uses CD audio so you can rip it from the disk.

It doesn't include the Japanese song 'Starry Heavens' because of copyright infringement me thinks. The only way to get it legit is to buy the album of Day After Tomorrow 'Moon Gate' or 'Primary Colors', or two orchestrated versions in 'Dear Friends / It's my way'. It's a good thing I own both.

I love orchestrated game music. I the Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross OST. Metroid Prime OST is also excellent. I also like rock/metal, the Dracula Perfect Battle Selection 1 & 2 is one of the best. Castlevania + metal = win/win situation.

Dr. Zoidberg, OST's often contain extended versions of the original.

And I didn't find any Majora's Mask soundtrack in the Stars Catalogue. Where do you live and how much stars did it cost? It's not an OST if it's remixed though.

You know, I wish more GBA games had soundtracks!
I tend to agree with Dr. Zoidberg, I shouldn't  have to pay for soundtracks to games...although I would consider it for the right game...too bad that game doesn't exist!
That's my opinion, not yours.

Yeah, game music is rockin'. I totally recommend the music from Contra: Shattered Soldier (PS2), Earthworm Jim/2 (Various) and the Iridion games on GBA. TOTALLY.

There's a Golden Sun soundtrack recorded by a fan if that counts.

Plus you can always use your GBA. The Lost Age has a sound room in the battle arena.

"Starry Heavens," by 'day after tomorrow.'

CHEN:  "none" of the tracks in the JPN Wind Waker soundtrack are extended.  They play once, then fade out.  No looping.

I must be the only hardcore Zelda fan without any of the game soundtracks.  I wish I had them all, but my dad doesn't believe in buying from the internet and I can't find them in any stores.  Oh well, only 1 more year to college, then I can buy them off the internet.  Right now I settle with MP3s and Midis.  By the way, does anyone know a store that I could have missed?

CHEN: No, the N64 games only include te remixed version of Eternal Legend (aka the Zelda theme), the soundtrack only includes the songs that were in the game. I got it from the NoE german star catalogue for 1800 stars.

That's too bad. There are 133 tracks though. And many of them can be considered as remixes of previous Zelda games. I was hoping for a radio drama like in A Link to the Past Sound & Drama. I don't know what they're talking about, but Link talks... in Japanese.

There are a few soundtracks i love, sadly not many of them have OST's.

Metroid Music is generally always amazing, Super Metroid has the best soundtrack of any game in my opinion.

Lately i've been listening to Timesplitters 2 songs, cause i got ahold of those.

I absolutely and completely love Beyond Good and Evil's soundtrack, that is one of the most amazing soundtracks i have ever heard for any game, i would kill for an OST of it.

There are so many songs with soundtrakcs i love, i don't feel like mentioning all of them, theres a reason that i have over 700 OCremix's (hand selected) and over 500 other game music songs.

Gosh, I hope that Nintendo would make a Wario Land series soundtrack!  What an underrated series, the theme for WL1 was the best.  From Nintendo Power like in 1997, my brother and I got a 3 disk soundtrack collection of Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Star Fox 64.  Great cd's, especially the Mario Kart one, it had every single character voice sample for all of the racers!

Forte try Game Zone.  They sell some soundtracks and they do sell import games and they can order import games for you also, so if you don't see what you want you can tell them to #$@%#%@ get it for you, lol.

P.S. I dunno how many they carry or if you have a Game Zone near you.  Hope this helps though!

personally i always loved rpg soundtracks- my personal favorite soundtrack would have to be the valkyrie profile soundtrack- very very good- one of the best in my opinion for any game or rpg- the music was written by motoi sakuraba- he has also made the star ocean soundtracks as well and the golden sun music for gba- (which is great also)

other personal favorites are the breath of fire dragon quarter soundtrack and i loved the star ocean 2 soundtrack as well- grandia 2's soundtrack was very good as well

most of my favorite soundtracks are rpg ones- www.rpgfan.com  has a section dedicated to soundtracks- they also put some songs up there- some of the music is good, some not that great- you should go there if you like rpg soundtracks or videogame soundtracks at all
i call the big one bitey.

I used to really enjoy a few soundtracks here and their, however Smash Brothers Brawl with its
amazing score really sparked an interest in video-game sound tracks.

I enjoy remixes that some people do and post on youtube or iTunes.

I really wanted to go to Videogames Live, but didn't have enough money.

I feel sort of bad downloading dozens of songs from Brawl, but stupid Nintendo refuses to officially release these soundtracks in America. They would make so much money and they refuse and force people to look for them illegally.

I really enjoy some tracks from games that are more rare.

I love the soundtrack to Tetrisphere. I have a program that allows me to download movies from youtube and I can convert those videos to mp3s and there I go. Tetrisphere really had fantastic music for an n64 game that really was original and memorable.

NO MORE HEROES OFFICIAL SOUND TRACKS

i love it. Sure there are lots of variations on the main tune but they're still good. I've been meaning on getting my hands on the remix album "dark side" but i'm weary since its more of the same.... like literally its only 3 main songs from the game remixed multiple times.

One of my favorite tracks off of the OST is "Pleather For Breakfast" aka the Bad Girl fight theme. its awesome.

Of the handful of video game soundtracks i have, this is my favorite becuase i can listen to it loudly and people won't be like "what the hell is this?" because it doesnt sound like something from a game (save for the "electric ladder").

i only recently got an ipod, which means i only recently have the space for all that music. My current VG OST's on my ipod are as follows:

Earthbound
Killer Instinct: Killer Cuts (the cd that game with the game way back when;))
LoZ: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 1/2/3
No More Heroes
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash bros Brawl (which had lots of the main Melee tunes mind you)
and LoZ: Wind Waker

i still have alot more i want to get and theres tons of OCRemix stuff i have on cd's but have just been too lazy to put on my ipod (i've mentioned it in another thread, i have to have everything filed perfectly..). With that said however, although your list is impressive Bill (really, REALLY impressive), i don't see myself listening to something off of Mario Tennis.

As much as i love VG music, there are lots of tracks that are more just background music than anything i would WANT to listen to on a regular basis. Sure if it came on during shuffle i'd leave it, but i'd never scroll thru folders to find something like "The King of Light and Shadow" off of the Twilight Princess OST.....

unless its from Earthbound.. :-D I could listen to the File Select theme or Onett's Arcade music on a loop!

Also, if you're interested, these guys used to make podcasts on the subject of videogame music cover bands. It's been quite a while since they've done a podcast, but nonetheless their myspace page does have links to many more bands.
