I understand things change with time, but man the memories.  I remember when pictures of The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker leaked a few days early and people thought "toon Link" was a hoax.  Then things exploded when the reveal happened.

So many memories, but I suppose all good things must come to an end.  But not this site or my account yet, it would seem!

Well, I believe that particular memory was of Space World, not E3. 

Am I merging two events?  I specifically remember photos of the GameCube logo that people thought were fake.  I must be merging the two, because the initial GCN reveal had the more "realistic" graphics for Zelda.

Memory sure is a funny thing.

I just thought of another reason developers probably wanted to ditch E3: the costs of making the demos.  I recall reading they had to distract from game production to get E3 demos ready.

...oh my god.  My account that I made over 20 years ago for Planet GameCube still exists to comment here!

This is the end of an era.  I still have my Planet GameCube VHS tapes and DVDs.  Back when getting such videos online took file sharing programs and hours of downloading overnight.

Yes, the $10 thing is a subscription.  When asked to renew they simply refer you to the phone number or one of the GameStop related stores.

I don't understand, did you think I was talking about your post?  Sorry if it seemed like it.  I meant that AOL Broadband uses it's own weird stuff, even though it uses normal Cable modems and normal cable equipment.  So, routers have to be specifically compatible with this "weird stuff" in order to share an AOL Broadband connection.  I was concerned that Nintendo would use its own "weird stuff" too, since I'm not exactly an expert on Ethernet.  I figured that if AOL does weird non-standard stuff with Ethernet  maybe Nintendo would too.  I didn't know the broadband adapter was already confirmed to be function in a network enviornment as standard Ethernet.  It's nice to know.  Maybe I'm just confused.  I'm talking about Internet and Intranet connections as if they're totally different.  Now that I think about it, they're not are they?

I hope Nintendo doesn't pull "an AOL."  AOL tends to use nonstandard garbage.  For example, you have to buy an "AOL compatible" router to share an AOL Broadband connection, and such a connection isn't “always on” or compatible with any console gaming network.  

How does this relate to Nintendo?  I think Nintendo should embrace the technology that already exists.  For example, I'm living in a duplex with one of my sisters.  Downstairs, another of my sisters lives.  She and her kids have a GCN, and so do I.  We already have a three computer network, one of them downstairs.  It would be nice to be able to unplug two of the Ethernet cables from the computers and plug them into the GCNs, forming an instant connection.  This is how standard Ethernet stuff works.  The router (with switch), switch, or hub handles the traffic direction (I think).

If I understand it correctly, if Nintendo follows the Ethernet technology already in existence routers (with switches), switches, and hubs or any other Ethernet stuff I don’t know about should work.  The computers (be they Macs, PCs, Xboxs, or GCNs) don't care about what happens in the middle as long as the communication happens.  As far as the Internet thing goes, even broadband is significantly slower than 10mbps Ethernet and if Nintendo uses FastEthernet (pretty much the standard now at 100mbps), broadband is about 100 to 50 times slower.  I guess it all depends how much bandwidth the game needs.  Even with online tricks, you'd still only be able to connect two GCNs though.

For me it was some train game on my brother's Commodore 64.  I remember seeing Super Mario Bros. on Nintendo and being blown away by the color graphics.

I'll never understand how people think that certain opinions are somehow more valid than others.  This applies to the GCN/Xbox thread in "other systems" too.  

I loved DK64.  In fact, I loved the single player mode.  It was refreshingly long and challenging.  Does that mean people who didn't like it are wrong? No!  I don't know why I'm posting this though, as time and time again I've seen that many people do think their opinion is the only valid one no matter what, even becoming elitist in the worst case.

I think it would have been better if they kept the original complete Dinosaur Planet story and upgraded the game.  The whole "let's slap the Star Fox license on it" thing really bugs me.  I still liked the game, but it sounded much better when it was Dinosaur Planet.  Unless Rare was blowing things out of proportion with the DP hype, it sounded like its story was much more complex than SFA's.  It seems like they ripped the heart out of the game and tried to transplant a new one in.  Bad way of explaining it, but it works.  I still think it's odd that Krystal was originally a playable character but they removed her, or rather removed Sabre and replaced Krystal with Fox.

I was still pleased with the game.  It most definitely didn't live up to the hype though.  Sixty hours?  Where do they get their numbers from anyway?  Of course, maybe it was always underwhelming and that's why it was delayed so much.  The original concept was great though, in my opinion, and I'm very disappointed it never came to fruitation.

I don't think religion is wrong, but it's quite clear that it can be a dangerous instrument of mind control.  Sorry, I have my own ethics, and religious texts can be twisted to serve practically anyone's whims.  The Bible was used to justify slavery, so I'm sure people can justify anything with it.  For the record I am Christian, but that doesn't mean I take part in organized religion.  As far as the war goes, it's hard if not impossible to know what the truth is.  The media can lie, and the media does lie.  Peaceful protestors are attacked by police.  Police do cause riots, going as far as to pull people's hands from their faces to pepper spray them, and chasing them down streets to beat them.  Police do seize cameras and other equipment from protestors in an attempt to hide the truth.  The coporate media does ignore this.  The government does have the ability to make people disappear.  You can't trust everything the media says.  If you do, you're handing your freedom away.  This is the USA I'm talking about, and the deception and danger are real.

By the way, I've had two professors say that Bush LOST the election.  Good thing he has a brother to control Florida.  It was so close though (nation wide) that it seems people randomly voted for the two big parties.  With large enough numbers of people that don't care or choose randomly, that's what happens.

As far as patrotism/idiotism goes, there's a fine line between patriotism and fascism.   Bush and his cronies act like a religious dictatorship.  Granted that we haven't fallen that low yet, but we're dangerously teetering on the edge.  As long as people blindly follow the news, and as long as the news remains complacent to the regime, the regime can get away with anything.  

Like I said, who knows what the truth is.

There's no point arguing about this.  Everyone has views, and those views aren't likely to change.

The song Razzle Dazzle from the broadway musical Chicago applies to all sides here (and most politicians), especially George W. and Saddam.  Saddam may be ten bazillion times as bad as George W. (I don't think anyone denies that), but they both succeed at doing this to people:

There's also the issue of ISP support.  Granted, most normal ISPs work fine.  Some weird ISPs, like AOL, aren't compatible with Internet standards though.

Just so people know:
AOL is absolutely stupid with gaming "support."  As far as I know, the company only supports the PS2.  Get this: you have to pay an additional $5 per month just to use AOL for the PS2, a stupid robbery of customers.  Oh yeah, AOL Broadband isn't compatible with gaming consoles at all.  In short: AOL stinks.

Hopefully ISPs will be more universal the next time around.  It's just lame for certain ISPs to only support certain systems.  It's also very important that dial-up be supported.  I look down on Microsoft's policy, and praise Sony's dual modem.

I don't see where all the bandwidth is going.  I only played online once actually, and it was several years ago with the Descent III demo... via dial-up.  The lag wasn't that bad.  If that game can run just fine via dial-up, it seems ludicrous (from my uninformed standpoint) that broadband isn't considered fast enough by some.  You don't need lots of superfluous stuff going on to have a quality game.  If older games are just fine via dial-up, why aren't newer games?  I suppose that's from a PC standpoint though.  Is it the difference between a peer-to-peer enviornment and a server enviornment or something?  I suppose the whole server thing would be needed to protect against cheaters and to provide stability.  Bleh, I have know idea what I'm talking about.

I can understand her (the "Dixie chick's") position.

Wisconsin is my home, and I'm quite ashamed that McCarthy came from here, even though Lafayette (from early in the 20th century) alleviates that some.  If Bush keeps rolling down this path, perhaps many more future Texans will feel ashamed of him as many are ashamed of McCarthy.

For those who don't know, McCarthy was a guy that amplified the Red Scare to eliminate political enemies.  He became very powerful, but luckily was stopped when he started aiming higher than he should have too quickly.

Just like McCarthy, I think Bush is a very dangerous person.  I can't trust a president that once called the USA a "Christian country" and openly supports bigoted legislation and reductions of personal liberties.

I've actually been ashamed of Bush long before the war.  Who in their right mind would appoint someone like Ashcroft, who repeatedly attacked blacks and homosexuals in his dark work history, as attorney general?

I really hope Bush proves me wrong, but I've always seen him as the worst current danger to the country.

I'm pretty sure people liked McCarthy during his time of fame.  Scary, isn't it?  My dad still insists that he's a "hero" for "stopping communists."  I have to wonder how many "terrorists" are simply political enemies.  What a convenient way of getting rid of foes.  It hasn't gotten like McCarthyism quite yet, but it's important to watch out incase it does.

Saying the GCN is exclusively for "kiddies" is, by definition, stupid.  All you need is one example of an adult that likes a GCN to prove that statement wrong.  Not that the whole Halo-box thing is much better though.

As far as the "debate" goes, people might as well argue about whether apples or oranges are a better fruit.

I have Ratchet and Clank and I love it.  Naughty Dog shared Jak and Daxter technology with Insomniac, so if the Ratchet and Clank engine at least uses some elements of the Jak and Daxter engine, I suppose I should pick up the first Jak and Daxter if it's only US$20.

I think I'll read up on Jak II now...

Yep, this is a political thread.  I think it's scary how people blindly believe the powers that be.  

I think France is very courageous for standing up to US imperialism.  Some countries see the dark path the US is taking and they should be praised for standing up to a horrid, lying, aggressive state.  Edit:  Okay, so maybe that's a bit much.  Still, the US habitually lies.

Hmm, when does the war start?  When Iraq starts to cooperate better?  I think Bushy was afraid of losing ANY "legitimate" reason to attack.  Yes, Saddam needs to be removed.  This isn’t' a mission of good will though.  It's an invasion, and no one can deny that.  France and the others tried to stop it, but the US seems to think it's above everyone else.

I hope we don't become like Germany was for the first half of the 20th century.  Remember, Nazis were patriotic too.  All this talk about boycotting French stuff and the Dixie chicks is warning signs of a slow drift into a state of fascism.  

I agree with the Dixie Chicks.  I'm ashamed to be an American right now.  I'm ashamed of the blind faith people give this government.  We're blissfully tossing our freedom away, and it sickens me.  I wouldn't have started such a thread, but you bet I'm going to post about it if the subject already exists.  This is a very dark time in the history of the USA, when we toss away great progress made over the last few decades.  I'm afraid ludicrous stuff like "Patriot II" is just the tip of the iceberg.  People are so stupid, blindly believing every bit of propaganda thrown about.  A bunch of stupid puppets, with George W. holding the strings.  I'm very ashamed of the American people.

This is a test.  America needs to prove its innocense to the rest of the world after the inevitable victory.  I sincerely hope we do.

After Iraq, I have to ask:  Who's next?  Do we have to launch preemptive strikes on all other countries to protect our security?

Note that Iraq isn't the only country developing such weapons.  I acknowledge that Saddam's regime is horrid, but you have to always be questioning!  Why is it that the oil fields are the first on the list for the reconstruction of Iraq?  Not hospitals.  Not schools.  OIL FIELDS

I'm very vehement, but that doesn't mean I don't respect other people.  Yes, I think the public is being lied to and mislead, but that doesn't mean I have any enmity towards such people.  I know my post will be offensive to many, but that's just the way it goes.  I'm sure this is why this kind of topic is off limits.

The GBA Action Replay lets you backup your GBA saves.  I don't think it works with normal GB saves though, but I'm not sure.

As I always note when I mention the Action Replay, it is the true GameShark brand.  If anything new comes out with the GameShark name, it is the GameShark brand in name only.  Datel, the makers of all previous GameShark products, is behind the Action Replay and the Action Replay has always been the same product as the GameShark.

Anyway,"http://www.codejunkies.com" is the website.  I'm sure other companies have stuff out there too, but Datel immediately popped to mind.

the above is only for PCs running Windows though.

Yahoo! doesn't censor its members, at least as far as Yahoo! groups goes.  Good for freedom, bad for schools that don't want to be sued.  It's up to parents to control their kids' activities, so the school can't provide a way for the kids to avoid parents' rules, not to mention the vast array of legal views on the matter.

Speaking of "nerdish" ways to control Windows XP, it's possible to move a user profile somewhere strange, and to remove it from the logon list.  Combine that with Windows XP Professional security management, and you have an entire user profile that's practically invisible to the average user, and who's files are only available if another administrator takes ownership and gives him/herself permission to access the files.  Not that I necessarily have such an inviso-user on this computer, mind you.  Hehe.

I'm not a movie freak in particular, but I have to mention Chicago.

It's excellent.  I think it's just perfect!  A perfect mockery of the circus that is the "justice" system in the US!  It takes the subject of murder, and makes it a very funny and entertaining show.  I loved it!

Of course, people who hate musicals would hate it, but I think it's just brilliant.

1. Did you play violent games as a child?
Yes, some examples are Doom and Hexen, my favorites at the time.

2. Did those games affect your life, beliefs, or desensitize you?
They made me MORE non-violent in real life.  I'm forever squeamish, but less so now than before.  If an option is available to reduce gore, I usually use it.  I don’t let gore stop me from playing a good game though.

3. Do violent games these days desensitize or corrupt children?
Desensitize?  Maybe.  Corrupt?  No.  I can’t stress it enough: parents/guardians, and only parents/guardians, are accountable for what material is exposed to children.

Can you do that if Administrator has a password?  I'm doubting you can but I'm curious.  I'm to lazy to reboot and test it on this computer.

By the way, if all he did is get rid of the shortcut all you have to do is create a new shortcut.  Better yet, does the CD autorun when you put it in?

Edit:
I tested it.  If the Administrator account has a password set, you can't break in even with safe mode.  To set the Administrator password:
1.) Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete on the logon screen, or if you have the classic logon, you already have to type in a user name.  Now, type Administrator as the user name and leave the password blank.  Log on.  Now, go to the control panel and change the password.  If you want your stuff protected, leaving the Administrator account without a password leaves your computer wide open.

Note, even if you protect you stuff, there are ways for ANY user with administrator status to get at your files, since adminstrators can take ownership of anything.  You have to really know what you're doing to do that though, and I'm not sure it applies to XP Home (I'm using XP Professional).  Note that XP Home and Professional are mostly the same.  Home simply has some disabled/removed features.

For me, as I'm sure others in the thread have said, it's just another example of Microsoft encroaching on more markets.  Yuck.  That said, I will eventually get an Xbox.  I'll just get it used so Microsoft doesn't get any money.  Wait!  Microsoft loses money on the console itself!  I'll be sure to get a new Xbox when the time comes!  Mwah ha ha ha ha.  Note that I acknowledge the stance is completely stupid.
