TalkBack / RE:Radio Free Nintendo - Episode 11
« on: August 03, 2006, 03:38:15 PM »
I don't know if it is just the way Karl and Stan have to record their podcasts, but each voice can only be heard out of one of the stereo speakers. That is, I can't hear both voices when I only have one of the two headphones in my ears.

I'm not sure if there is an easy way to fix this, but when I listen to my iPod at work, I generally only have one headphone in (so I can hear my boss yell at me from his office next door). The other podcasts with Mike and Evan work fine and have been great as far as I am concerned.

Not a big complaint, but just something small that kind of caught me off guard.

TalkBack / RE:DS Lite Street Date Broken

I went to the Target in my area (New Orleans, LA) last night and...the DS Lite was on the shelf. I quickly called an employee over and quietly asked him to get it out of the glass case for me. I quickly paid and exited the store and I have been playing it ever since.

General Gaming / RE:Am I the only one disappointed with the XBox 360?
« on: November 22, 2005, 12:56:20 PM »
I was listening to the radio this morning on my drive to work.  A CBS news analyst came on with the story of XBox 360 launching.  He was obviously excited when he said the following (paraphrasing, of course):

"The Xbox 360 is new in many ways: not only does it have impressive graphics, but you can play your DVDs and even CDs on it, you can play online and you can view videos from your computer on your television screen!"

I couldn't believe this guy.  He was genuinly impressed by this.  The current Xbox, some $250 less (USD) has all those "features" except one. It made me think how right Nintendo could be if they pull it off with the Revolution, they could create something that would trully change something about the industry.

Nintendo Gaming / Are component video cables region specific?
« on: November 20, 2005, 04:12:59 PM »
I'm planning on picking up an HDTV soon and the only component cables I can find (on ebay, anyway) are from Japan.  Will these work on my US Gamecube?

I'd like to know as soon as possible, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Mario Kart DS - The Release Thread
« on: November 15, 2005, 11:48:10 AM »
Bad and good news today:

Bad news: I reserved MK at an EBgames by where I work.  I went to go pick it up today and they told me their shipment from UPS was delayed somewhere in the country because of the weather.  So that really sucks, but......

Good news: I was talking with the EBgames clerk and he told me that it really sucks that they couldn't get their shipment in today because they had over 100 PREORDERS, just at that one store!  I thought that was pretty impressive indeed.

TalkBack / RE:Reggie Reveals DS, Revolution Snippets
« on: November 11, 2005, 05:19:38 PM »
This is actually kind of disappointing to me.  I am planning on buying an HDTV in a month or so, and I was hoping Nintendo would change their mind. But by no means is this going to change my decision to buy a Revolution.

And if I could respond to Steven's statement on the news page:
Quote

Steven says: The No-HD confirmation is a bummer, but in the end Nintendo really doesn't need it. All outputting Revolution games in HD would do is make HD comparisons to the 360 and PS3 look poorly on Nintendo.
It may make the HD comparisons bad, but now they will compare non-HD Rev games to HD PS3 and 360 games which will make the Rev games look worse.

Just a "measly port."  But for those of you who haven't played it yet; I have to tell you, it is a really fun game. I played it on PS2 a couple months ago, and I got the GC version the first day it came out this week.

Should I pick it up if I never played any of the other SSX games, but am kind of interested in this one?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I think I know what the "HOME" button is...
« on: September 19, 2005, 02:07:39 PM »
Let's just say the home button does indeed bring you to a home menu that allows you to see your downloaded games, system info, etc.  How funny would it be that Microsoft's "innovation" is indeed just an afterthought on Nintendo's new controller.

I think it looks incredible.  I've never had another company's system and I doubt I'll get the PS3, but to think that the graphics could* really look like that, that's just amazing.

*I still have to see someone actually playing the game to be convinced that it really looks like that in motion, because I just can't believe that right now.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Official IWATATON Speech Thread
« on: September 18, 2005, 04:39:11 PM »
But EA has never said anything bad about the GC as far as I know (I know that's different than saying something good, but it seems that not saying anything at all can't hurt).  And IGN may have been critical, but I think the IGNCube editor has been mostly supportive of Nintendo (even though he has said some stupid things at times).

So, my point is neither of these have changed their position.  See what I mean, it's seems to me, at least, that everyone is just taking them a whole lot more seriously since they said these statements about the Revolution controller.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Official IWATATON Speech Thread

I never said that I wouldn't be buying it though.  I said this:
Quote

All I can say is that this may be the first time Nintendo has some serious convincing to do for me, at least, when it comes to selling me a console.

Meaning: I would have to be convinced some more that I like the direction Nintendo is heading.  We haven't seen a game demo yet, I want to see what it's like before I'm ready for fork over 300 dollars for a system and a couple games.

And you're right, I wasn't pointing the EA/IGN comments at you.  Like I said, I read 9 pages of this thread in a 45 minute span and that was the feeling that I got from a lot of people, I just thought it was very interesting considering the view of mostly everyone on this forum normally.

EDIT: Mario, I'm not making anyone (especially Bill) look like the bad guy.  I'm one that loves reading yours and Bill's posts normally because it's refreshing to read someone who can find the silver lining in the sometimes "the world against Nintendo" philosophy and I think everyone that reads the forums semi-often knows that.  I was pointing out something that I thought was flawed in his assessment of what I said.  I'm glad there are people who are "HAPPY and excited about the Nintendo Revolution."  I WANT Nintendo to succeed, I love playing Mario and Zelda and Metroid.  If there weren't people like Bill, then Nintendo wouldn't exist.  I'm just not as convinced as Bill and you are yet.  What can I say, I'm less of an optimist.

I want them to stick with a and b.  Let's keep the NES look at least so when you turn it sideways it still has the same layout as NES.

Well, after driving the past two days and being away from a computer, this thread has quite grown (I think I had to read 9 pages of 30 posts each to catch up), and as I suspected, some people have taken what I said and ran the wrong way with it.

Good for you, I'm glad you made your decision on it before you could try it for yourself...

You know, Bill, I could say the same thing about you, you just saw images of it and were very impressed.  Don't our initial impressions form our INITIAL opinions?  Just because the first time I saw it, I didn't have the same positive reaction as you, means that I can't talk about it, but you can?  I wasn't saying I went to TGS and tried it and didn't like it.  I'm saying that what hit my mind (which is by the way the definition of impression) when I saw it was initially...it wasn't negative...let's just say not entirely positive.

Oh, and I have to ask everyone who talked about EA, is it comfortable on that bandwagon?  Because for the past two months, you have been torching EA's decisions and every game they make, and now all of a sudden, you jump on the bandwagon because EA says some positive things about Nintendo's new console (like Ian said, they have to say that, they want their games to sell on it and if they don't say that, the games won't--it doesn't mean they really are excited).

What about the IGN bandwagon too?  I mean that's all I hear on this board, is how IGN sucks and are biased, but after their positive HANDS-ON impressions of the controller, IGN is right and we have to hold them up as exemplary. (Tut, tut, Grey Ninja would not be happy with ya'll).

Now time for me to state some of my recent feelings, I can't help but agree with alot that was said by Ian, Manti, and by the guys in the recent addition of Blah Blah Blah.  I do see alot of potential, but I want to see something that will justify Nintendo's going to this type of controller.  Like someone said in this thread, I don't think Zelda is about swinging a sword, that sword is just a vehicle to the point of the game: an epic adventure.  I don't think Mario is about flicking the controller to jump, I think jumping is just a part of the experience.

I have, however, warmed up to the idea of the controller, I'm just going to wait and see how Nintendo uses it in their games (which will in turn, form the way third parties look at the idea).

This is completly WTF.  I honestly don't like it at all. I mean, I want to play Mario and Zelda and Pilotwings, and everything else with at least the same general idea.  All I can say is that this may be the first time Nintendo has some serious convincing to do for me, at least, when it comes to selling me a console.

Not impressed at all.

You people should be more pissed off at the media who are hollywooding the whole thing
Don't worry, I'm already pissed off at the media.  It seems like every national station is interviewing the looters:

Reporter: Why are you looting?
Looter #1: We neeta feed our families, bra.
Looter #2: Yeah, dog, it's all about our families.
(Looters 1 and 2 take football jerseys, video games, and tvs off walmart shelves)
Reporter: Of course, a very noble cause, back to you in the studio.

It's just freaking ridiculous.  The media are allowing this to go on.

On mayor Nagin:  He really is a breath of fresh air after our previous corrupt mayors.  This guy genuinely cares about the good in the city.  Like nemo said, READ the transcript, it really is good to have someone in our local politics say what they mean and vice-versa.

Up in Missouri, I have met with nothing but goodwill from everyone and everyone I converse with both on the internet and everyday has been supportive.

Oh, and Ian:  I couldn't have said it better myself.

Nemo, Pale, HC, TVman, and everyone else on this forums affected by this disaster, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours missing, lost, and affected by the hurricane.  Good luck to all (it looks as if we may need it).

You might want to actually have some first-hand knowledge of the current levee systems before throwing out statements that you just heard on the news.  The war had nothing to do with the current levee system (and I know because I live(d) there).

Quick personal story: my uncle works as the dispatcher for the New Orleans area, and there was a pregnant lady who was bleeding who came to the dispatch station.  So they sent her in a police car to this doctor.  Of course these a**holes shot at the police car, so they had to come back.

Anywho, hopefully the worst of this is over.  The military was sent in with the command, "if they shoot at you, shoot to kill."  And considering these f***ing jerks are shooting at everyone trying to help, there won't be too many of them left soon.

I live just outside of New Orleans in a suburb called Metairie.  I'm up in Missouri with relatives right now.  My house is supposed to be OK, without water damage.  But, I'm really worried about all the freaking looting.  Now after they loot a house, they torch it afterwards.  These people doing this really just need to be shot.  I'm serious, just send in the military and shoot them all.  The police right now are not doing anything.  It just pisses me off to no end.

But anyway, I hope to get back to check on my house sometime early next week.

General Gaming / RE:PS3 Estimated at $400
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:36:59 AM »
I don't know if this was put in another topic, but Sony's president recently said the following:
Quote

We're looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3. We're currently shifting from standard TVs to HD TVs. But in the next couple of years, most flat-panel TVs will be full HD. We're releasing the PS3 with full HD features from the start so that consumers won't have to buy another version of the console in the future. For the same reason, we're using Blu-ray as the PS3's disc format.

I'm aware that with all these technologies, the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households.

I'm not going to reveal its price today. I'm going to only say that it'll be expensive.

Now, I don't quite understand this statement.  I mean the obvious question is who exactly are they targeting?  And as Cnet.com says, it is slightly (only slightly of course) that he says it will "only be expensive."  I mean what do they plan on selling this thing for?
