Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Conduit
« on: July 20, 2009, 04:03:48 PM »
OK, bought Conduit a few days ago.

For all the hype about the controls, ironically they're my main complaint with the game so far....I still haven't been able to customise the controls to my liking just yet. I'm going to go for a full Metroid Prime 3 expert style scheme, which means a larger dead zone and slower turning speed.

I think a problem is the fact that you can't 'lock' the camera like you can with Metroid Prime's target lock, as in when there's no enemies on screen. Why? Because in MP3, pressing Z also means you can actually rest your hand. You can't do that in Conduit.
For me it's a big problem, though it might be small for some of you.

It's like how on PC, the mouse is resting on the table, and you don't actually have to hold it a few inches off the table.

I've just passed the train level and I haven't tried online yetl, but I think I'll go back to the first stage and play around with the controls again...see how that fares.

I think this is great news!
I bought the game (as well as MadWorld) purely to support Sega and HVS.
I wouldn't mind trying out Gyrostarr on WiiWare, and I'm certainly interested in The Grinder. Not so much that Gladiators game though.

This game was never going to be the second coming of whatever. HVS never said that it would be totally revolutionary or redefine FPSs.

All they have ever said is that they there is a lack of software catering to hardcore players on the Wii, and they hope to remedy that with The Conduit. Considering the extensive focus testing, research and openness to consumer feedback - namely, hardcore player feedback - they are pretty much giving us the greatest game they can possibly make. Nothing about this game appeals to the casual market at all, I reckon.

I will be buying this day one.

Good read.
Definitely shows how dedicated they are to this project, and a great insight into the industry.

It's also good that Sega isn't trying to take a stranglehold on anything either, merely providing whatever resources are needed to get the job done the right way.

So, as soon as Bill leaves, we have a bunch of the classic posters start posting again. Mouse_clicker, PIAC, Termin8Anakin, myself. It looks like Bill was the one holding these forums back.

Nah, we came back in support of him.

« on: January 30, 2009, 06:03:18 PM »
Christ Nolan, etc will definitely take their time to make it, unlike all the other franchises out there.

Matrix 2 & 3, Pirates 2 & 3, and even Back to the Future 2 & 3 were made back to back and were hence rushed. X-Men 3 changed directors (from Bryan Singer to Brett "I like to think I can make movies" Ratner), Spiderman 3 was waaay too campy, and Shrek totally lost its identity from a smart parody to spot-that-pop-culture-spoof in the vein of Date Movie etc.

The way the tone changed so dramatically from Batman Begins to Dark Knight can never really be repeated when Batman 3 comes out.

All the action scenes were done for real! - the hospital blow up (that's why Joker's reaction is totally genuine!), the tumbler and batpod chases, the HK building jump, the truck flipping over - and that makes TDK something really special. Batman 3 is definitely going to be good :D

Lack of local multiplayer is pretty disappointing, but yeah, I'd still buy it.
I buy games for good single player more than multiplayer anyway.

But man, the level of customisation is orgasmic!
The game looks really promising, but I hope the hype around it isn't misplaced, like Eternal Darkness was for Gamecube (still a great game, but by the time it came out, we practically knew everything about it, so nothing was really scary or surprising anymore).

I still read NWR on a daily basis for my fix of news and such; it's one of my bookmarks!

One thing I learned since starting my first steps internet forum posting was to not take things so seriously. PGC, back on ezboard, was my first forum, and I daresay we were the life of things here.

Over the years, things got a little more awkward than they should have around here (trolls, a hell of a lot less people, etc). Also, my own attitudes toward things changed, as they do in life, and I stopped posting regularly probably well over a year or two ago.

It was interesting listening to the drama happening on the forums here from Bill, Mario et al on MSN, and when it comes to these things, I trusted their opinion that something really did happen to these forums to make them so cynical and hostile. And several times have they made mention of Ian, amongst other posters.

It may be a change in the attitudes of posters, it may be the staff, it may be because of Nintendo's success in the casual rather than hardcore market, whatever.
The staff have a problem on their hands, and several senior members of the community are voicing their opinions about it.

It's time to get your hands dirty and get even more involved in order to fix this!

EA Hardware? They made the 3DO....well....Trip Hawkins did anyway.

But if they were to get into it again...it'd probably be called 'Patriot by EA - The All-American Video Games Platform' - and you must say it in full each time.

I'm pleased T2 flat out refused EA. Can you imagine a YEARLY installment of GTA? And imagine the cross-over mayhem...

Diddy Kong Racing DS sucked major balls.
Taj with an English accent? F**K YOU, HE'S A CLICHE INDIAN. GET IT RIGHT.

You know what though, despite Activision allowing MS to release the port of Goldeneye on XBLA, I'd like to think that Nintendo blocked MS based on PRINCIPLE.

"Nintendo game on MS console? GTFO" says Iwata-san.

For MS to only pay Nintendo a one-off fee is blasphemous. There is only one way for this financial settlement to work:
Ninty gets 80% of the money from each purchase; 15% goes to a charity of their choice, and the remaining 5% to pay for Pierce Brosnan's JBA (James Bonds Anonymous) rehab sessions.

Either that, or ONLY release it on VC.

TalkBack / RE: GoldenEye 007 Was Heading to Xbox Live Arcade
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:15:27 AM »
The scary truth is that Goldeneye most likely would have been more of a success on XBLA arcade than VC, purely for the reason that it was acually an updated port.
I've tried to play my old N64 games on my 42" plasma, and damn they look HORRIBLE. So while VC may have a better selection of games, XBLA users are getting better treatment with updated ports.

I don't think any of Rare's N64 will be released on VC or XBLA arcade anytime soon. The fact that it's an N64 game running on a non-Nintendo console is rather hard to bear...

HOWEVER.....

Now I dunno the legality of this, but remember in DK64 how it had the original DK and Jetpac games hidden away?
Rare would probably be able to do something like that...e.g. putting the old Jet Force Gemini of Banjo Kazooie/Tooie games as unlockables in their new incarnations on Xbox 360......
You never know...

I've already mentioned it in passing in piechat, Rab, lolol.
But it's only going to be in Sydney and Melbourne.

We've talked about going to other cities, and we may in the future, so there's the possibility of Perth.

General Chat / Eminence presents: A Night in Fantasia 2007
« on: April 14, 2007, 01:24:29 AM »
Hey guys, been a while since i posted here....must be at LEAST a year or so now!

Eminence is an orchestra based in Sydney, Australia that specialises in Video Games and Anime music.
It was formed in 2003, and every year since, has held many unforgettable concerts.
In addition to the our signature concert series A Night in Fantasia, we've held many ensemble and solo concerts, like Piano Stories, Destiny: A Dreamtime Ensemble, and our recent success, Passion.
In 2005, we broke from the norm, and presented World of John Williams, showcasing many of the legendary composer's most memorable scores such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial, Home Alone, and Indiana Jones.

A Night in Fantasia 2007: Symphonic Games Edition is coming up VERY SOON - next week, actually!

This year's concert features a wide variety of music from games such as:
Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and for those who also love the games from that other console, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Shadow of the Colossus XD

There's a string of special guests that will be present as well!
Yasunori Mitsuda, composer of Chrono Trigger and Xenogears
Hitoshi Sakimoto, composer of Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics (as well as the score to Studio Gonzo's latest anime masterpiece Romeo x Juliet, which Eminence performed!)
Yoko Shimomura, composer of Kingdom Hearts and the upcoming Final Fantasy Verses XIII
Kow Otani, composer of Shadow of the Colossus and Haibane Renmei
Masaru Shiina, composer of Tales of Legendia and Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Junichi Nakatsuru, composer of Soul Calibur, Time Crisis II, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat: The Unsung War
Shirou Hamaguchi, arrangements and performances for a variety of Final Fantasy pieces including One Winged Angel, and composer of Ah! My Goddess: The Movie.

Playing in Sydney, at the Sydney Town Hall:
- Friday 20th April, 7:30pm
- Saturday 21st April, 7:30pm

and in Melbourne at the Hamer Hall:
- Friday 27th April, 7:30pm.

Tickets start at $40 for Adults, and $30 for Concession

For more information, visit:
Eminence Online

--------------------------------------

Despite the fact that I just gave a massive plug for them, there doesn't seem to be a thread on them here, so I reckon it should get a mention at least!
So who's heard of them?

Anyone on here who's from Sydney or Melbourne should definitely go to those concerts!
I can get you some cheap tickets, too (Sydney only lol)

I think it actually is funny how girl gamers are treated.
I have quite a few friends who are currently addicted to World of Warcraft. A couple of them are girls, and they disguise themselves as guys, simply to avoid the whole barrage of horny geek guys who would follow them around everywhere talking dirty and asking for marriage proposals or whatever. It's quite surreal.
I even surprised myself....whenever I noticed the presence of a female gamer (or a chick that likes anime), I automatically wanted to try and start a conversation with her.

One thing i have noticed is that in real life, whenever there's a girl who likes games/computers/anime then there will most likely be a whole group of guy friends following her around. I know, because I used to be one of those kinda guys.
It gets REALLY awkward when one of the guys in that group decides to ask the girl out. It just breaks up the whole friendship.
And its REALLY confusing to the guys (most of whom have never had girlfriends) cause they think the girl genuinely likes them or something.

You can't blame a geek for acting that way. A girl (and maybe a hot one at that) that likes the same things they do are a rarity. Blubbered speech, crude sex jokes, bad flirting and instant infatuation should be expected.
