I did EVERYTHING in my power to see what was going on with the Wii shop and Internet channels. I checked the connection, I changed the channel on my router, I changed the settings on my connection I did EVERYTHING, but the shop channel and the internet channel are STILL not working. The last chance is me calling Nintendo tomorrow. Since it looks like the problem might come from the Wii system, they might tell me to send it back to Nintendo...

So for those that had to send their Wiis backs for any reason, how it works? Did you get a Wii a few days later or did you have to wait a while?

I just hope that Nintendo sends me a Wii fast, considering there is a massive Wii shortage right now.

I am so mad right now...

MAD bummer. Hardware malfunctions up the wazoo this gen. Even Nintendo's got em! (though, to be fair, my expectations dropped last gen when my GC gave out)

Nintendo shouldn't mistreat you, but I don't know what their turnaround time is. Do you have VC games on there you bought before the malfunctions?

I have three games, actually, Bonk, Zelda LTTP and Super Mario Bros.

The thing is that its just two channels that refuse to work. EVERYTHING else related to the internet is working fine. I can receive and send Miis just fine, I can send myself pictures without any problem, I can send and receive messages just fine and Wiiconnect24 works!

So to me this says that this is a software problem, not a hardware problem. If the problem was with the modem inside of the Wii none of the other elements wouldn't work. But like I said, everything else except the shop and internet channel work fine.

ummm....maybe u got a virus off the web sites u visited...

w/ my problem i just had to delete my connection, unhook my wii and my connector then hook it back up again and it worked fine...

I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason why the shop and internet channels are not working.

As for your suggestion, I already did that. I checked the connected, I unhooked my Wii, erased the settings, changed the channel on the router, rebooted it and my modem, connected and disconnected the ethernet cables in my modem and computer, EVERYTHING and they still wouldn't work.

Although I haven't tried erasing my connection, THEN disconnecting the Wii.

Have you tried formatting the system memory?

Move any game saves to your SD card.

Are u sure u didn't get one of the early Wii's that were potential firmware "bricks". If you've heard of such problems with the DS pixel screen problem, the firmware brickable Wii's were just as comparable in incidences. My first Wii got bricked by the first firmware update and Nintendo sent me a new system which only took about 3 days. I got to keep my old system until the new one came, because Nintendo covers shipping of both systems to and from.

Don't worry u should be treated okay, unless of course ur in Europe or Austrailia. I hear they are somewhat incompetent there. If you live in USA or Canada expect top tier service.

I've heard good things about Nintendo's Wii support... there were people on Kotaku talking about it who said Nintendo just sent them a new Wii and a shipping container to send the broken one back in.

I was seriously thinking of doing that. Problem is, I am too broke to buy an SD Card... :\

And WuTangTurtle, this wasn't gotten at launch. S_B got this during one of the massive Sunday Wiilaunches. I know it isn't one of the bricked systems since the box had the "Wii sports included" stickers on the front. And the minute I got it it updated its firmware just fine and like I mentioned way too many times, they were working fine. They just stopped working all of a sudden.

OK, here's an update on my problem. I called Nintendo...here's some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that it looks like I won't have to get a new Wii.

The bad news is that I still have the problem...

Me and the representative spent nearly 2 hours on the system and my router doing EVERYTHING suggested by Nintendo, the router and just about every other solution we could think of and I STILL couldn't connect to the Wii shop or the Internet channel...

The representative came to the conclusion that the problem could be with the router since he says he's been getting calls about Belkin routers not working with some Wiis. He suggested to try another router, go to a friend's house and try his or her and see if the Wii connects there, if it doesn't well the problem is indeed with the Wii.

The thing is that the Belkin router I have is the same router S_B has at his apartment and according to him its working just fine.

So it looks like I might have to try another router before coming to a conclusion. Thing is I am WAY too broke to buy another router. Every other router around here is too expensive, plus I don't have the means to go router hunting...

*Sigh, this is so frustrating.

Oh well, at least I can live without the Internet or Shop channel. Too bad there aren't any online based games to try if the problem goes further with online gaming.

Can't you just try it without the router? That is always a sure-fire way to detect a router problem.

You mean do a wired connection test? Or turn the router off and try to connect?

Like I said, everything internet related works perfectly. It just those two f*cking channels that stopped working all of a sudden.

Technically, they will release an add on that makes wired connections possible. Hell, even the Wii asks you if your connection is wired or wireless, meaning that the option of connecting it directly exists.

Something occurred to me while I was talking to S_B about it. I think the problem could be my ISP. See, me and S_B suspect that the ISP noticed that someone or something else was using my connection, this being the Wii. Maybe they noticed that and blocked it in fear that someone was stealing my connection when in reality it was me.

I will call them and see if by any they blocked any ports or detected some extra activity in the week.

That add-on's already out. And a Datel third party one too. As well as that one accessory that was meant for PCs but actually works with the way by pure coincidence!

Sounds like yours is a trickier fish to fry.

I already mentioned that the problem could potentially be my ISP blocking any outside signals that are using my connection in fear of stealing my services.

I'll call today and see what they say.

If so try and find an adapter (Mini SD > SD) coz they're cheaper. Or steal S_B's?

Nope, my cel phone is an older model, so no SD card.

And in order to steal S_B's SD card I would have to board a plane to Boston, then drive to NH. Not worth it...

An update, I just called my ISP. They said that they are blocking nothing and also suspect that the router may be the problem.

I told them that I reconfigured everything for 2 hours and it still didn't work. But Nintendo also came to the conclusion that Belkin is being a douche with the connection.

So the only thing left for me to do is either get another router and see if it works or just give up all together...

Like I said, I spent two hours with the Nintendo rep playing with it.

The only thing left to do is play with the firewall on both my Zone alarm anti virus and maybe my router.

ZoneAlarm is a total pain. I always have to totally disable it to get online with the Wii. I would've said that that's your problem but you say you can do everything else that's Internet-based. Still, give it a shot if you haven't yet. It's always the last thing that works.

(On a related note, I sent in my Wii to Nintendo (of Canada) the other day for repairs. The video card is likely damaged somehow. It was my brother who made the call, so I don't know if the swap-system thing was available to Canadians, but I can wait patiently for a week without a Wii.)

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I FIXED IT!

I am able to connect to the Wii shop channel and the Internet channel!

Turns out the problem was indeed the router. I found out when I was configuring my nephew's Wii. Despite being brand new it too wouldn't connect to the internet. What I did was restore the router back to its factory settings and allow it to be used as an access point. I did that and the Wii connected!

I am glad to know that the problem wasn't with the Wii!
