Experts: $4 a gallon gas coming soon

http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/31/news/gas_prices/index.htm

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon soon, but whether they stay there depends on the long-term damage to oil facilities from Hurricane Katrina, oil and gas analysts said Wednesday.

Oy, I think that's the price gas hit in the intro to the RTS "Act of War" which cause a "nationwide riot"...

4$/g is still less than we pay here, last I checked gas cost around 5.5$/g (according to Google calculator) here. And it's probably gone up.

How much is that in Australian dollar per litre. My friend was telling me we pay about 3x the amount you do, and that we pay as much as Americans in tax alone. I just wanted to check because I am not sure how reliable he is.

Here in PR we are having the same gas problems. Last year at this time, we paid .39 per litre, now we are paying .85 per litre.

It's hard for me to express my opinion regarding the gas prices without breaking the forum rules and getting into a political discussion.  Here in Canada a good sized chunk of the price is tax.  Well we all know who controls taxes.  They're saying they can't lower them or that it won't make a difference and analysts are saying "BULLSH!T".  So I'm saying "BULLSH!T" too.

I'm thinking that buying a house near my office might actually be cheaper than continuing to commute.  It's costing me almost $40 to fill up my tank which just a few years ago when I bought the car would maybe go over $30 if I was on total fumes at fill up.

Heh, it's entertaining here in western New York.

The NYS Thruway (I90 through the middle of the state for those who don't know) has the cheapest gas right now.  Only 1.60.  People are swarming to it.  The reason its cheaper is quite funny.  Because it is a toll road without many exits many laws/rules have been passed about what they can charge for gas.  (They were marking it up higher to pray on people who had to stop there.)  Well one of those rules is that they can only change their prices on tuesdays or something.  Therefore, as gas skyrockets, they have to wait till tuesday to update it.  =P

Anyway, I used to stress about gas price increases, but I've convinced myself they are good things.  I drive relatively fuel efficient cars (25 and 30 mpg) and I can't help but laugh when I see Hummers and other SUVs gassing up with these prices.  =P

This country really needs something to drive alternative fuel development farther and this could just be it.  I wish I could afford a prius or civic hybrid right about now.

This is when the old V4 Civic really pays dividends. Here, I remember a time not too ling ago where it was 47 cents CAD per litre (not including the usual 3.5 cents off). Today, it jumped from 97 cents to $1.14 per litre. That's quite a bit more than double of the low price. Highest I've ever seen it around here.

But Calgary Gas Prices is your friend!

After conversion from litres to gallons it turns out we pay nearly $6 a gallon for petrol. We've also being paying more than $4 a gallon for at least 3 or 4 years.

It's been 4.00-4.25 here in Washington for weeks now.  Thanks mostly due to ridiculous Washington taxes though.

Well shipping costs and all.

I would think that Australia would have a ton of oil on its land and off its shores. if not, I guess its just bad luck you guys are isolated and have low supply.

For the record, I am 26, S_B is 27, and I believe one of the members hit 30, and vudu is 666 years old.

So don't feel bad :) .

Our price is determined from price of oil in Singapore since everything travels via them to get here. And you know, taxes, fuel levy and whatnot. Australia has minimal oil reserves, we do however have a lot of every other fucking mineral.

Here in Colonial Beach the price of gas has gone down from 3.88 on monday to 3.77 on tuesday morning to 3.66 tuesday afternoon.  I haven't been into town since yesterday so I don't know what it now.

Have you seen the commercial for the new Honda PXC......pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Still, did you know a kg of Hydrogen costs roughly 5 bucks? It's crazy how much you can charge for compressed "most abundant atom in the known universe." It's bottled water all over again, except more ridiculous.

Well, hydrogen is significantly harder to bottle than water.  It's light enough to completely escape the atmosphere if you let it out, it's small enough to slip between the molecules of most materials, and you can only get it either by breaking it out of the same increasingly expensive hydrocarbons we already use for fuel or by breaking it out of water, which is extremely common but made of stronger bonds which require more energy to break.

Not widely distributed at this point so the price is more a product of the Supply/Demand curve.
