TalkBack / RE:Revolution Name Announced!
« on: April 27, 2006, 07:47:59 AM »
Well it could be worse... but I was really hoping they would stick with the "Revolution" code name. It just had a certian ring to it and made it clear that Nintendo was intent on changing the face of gaming.

On the plus side, maybe this new name indicates an increased focus on community interaction in gaming?

If this means we get NBA 2k7, then this is fantastic news in my view. It's just too bad the ESPN football series got cut short, or this would be great news for "Cube only" gamers.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Tie In ratio?
« on: February 02, 2006, 11:42:15 AM »
Wow I never realized how many GC titles I had till I looked at this thread. The offical count thus far is around 147 games, but I'm sure I'm missing some. I haven't played them all yet, but I have at least fiddled around with the bulk of them. The only games I still really want to pick up for the system are Burnout, Gauntlet, RE2, RE3, Baten Kaitos, Killer 7 and Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast... I'm not a collector or anything, I just own one current gen system and stumble upon a looooot of cheap games.

TalkBack / RE: NOA Announces Brain Age for DS

If they really added Sudoku to the American version, it's over. That ALONE will get this game out the door...

Wow, it looks like Nintendo is doing everything they can to avoid another DS drought this year. I really like how they're spacing out their titles this year, I think it will ultimately translate into more consistent sales numbers. That being said I really hope this game is released with budget pricing. If they release it at 20 bucks, I think consumers will be much more willing to take a risk on it (and buy the follow up the next month).

This sort of thing is also why when it was revealed that Ubisoft was supporting the Rev my response was "who cares?"

I actually buy them... mostly because they drop in price so quick and are always a fun one player experience. Granted I don't have a PS2 or Xbox, so that plays a large role in my decision.

That's weird.  The game was out for the entire year, but almost 40% of its sales are from December.

Note:  I'm not trying to answer Nosferat2's question; it's just a coincidence.

Not weird at all.  It was 10 dollars at Toys R Us and reduced everywhere else.  I even picked up a couple copies for my friends.

That was the very end of the month, and if that were true RE4 and Giest should have experienced sharp spikes as well. I'll agree that Metroid Prime 2's lower price tag played a role, but I also think it was a good pick up for Gamecube owners who passed on it last christmas (or for parents who were familiar with the name). As you can see, alot of other Nintendo franchises that don't really set the world on fire month to month experience sales spikes in December.

if the PS3 launches in march, I will be absolutely floored. That's less than 2 months away, with zero build up. I know they supposedly have a major conference coming up in February, but a month turn around? That seems completely unrealistic.

Im glad to see that RE4 passed 600K. Hope it hits 700k. unlikely. I want RE5 on the Rev.

Anyone know the total numbers for MP 2 Echoes?

There's a very good reason for that. Typically surveys like this are invite only. Alot of third party evaluation groups have a pool of volunteers that they choose from based on some basic information they filled out previously and surveys they've taken in the past. The link they provide is unique for each user and once the survey is taken (or even started for that matter), attempting to access it again will only lead to a "This survey has already been taken" sort of screen.

My question is not, where's the survey, but how did they grab those pictures? Unless the site got sloppy, most surveys right click protect their surveys so you can't steal the information or mock ups. Whatever the case, such news is encouraging but I won't be getting my hope up until we see some concrete details direct from Nintendo.

Umm... no, there have definately been shipments since launch. Some retailers are stocking up to put a bunch out at once and others are still working on fufilling pre-orders or putting them out as they trickle in.

Well I definately echo that for Rainbow 6 (minus the N64 incarnation) and Ghost Recon series... but I think the Splinter Cell series has always been a great port, despite the lack of multiplayer support. The Prince of Persia and BGE were solid ports as welll. I think Midway screws the Cube alot harder when  it comes to sloppy ports.

Ummm try actually reading up on the game... Every review I've seen hadn't proclaimed this game as a return to form after the slip up that was Warrior Within. It's been highly praised and widely reviewed, so there is no excuse for tossing it in the same boat as WW at this point.

Apparently the "mistake" numbers were a trap. They gave everyone a different set of "faulty" numbers, and then waited to see which ones showed up on the internet. The responsible parties have been shot, the leak is plugged, and there will be no more NPD numbers on the internet. For now.

Yup, we all thought it was a little too good to be true when all the system numbers were released so quick. Smart move on NPD's part, but a royal screw job for the gaming public.

As for the guy that tried to turn the GTA/Mario 64 DS comaprison into an arguement over mario burn out, you're missing the point. It's simply hypocritical of people to rag on Liberity City for being glorified rehash when the best selling title thus far on the DS is just that. Granted it's good rehash, but rehash all the same.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rare working on 2 DS games
« on: December 01, 2005, 05:54:01 AM »
I've been saying for a while that I think a game like Blast Corps would be perfect for the DS. It would allow them to map alot of the diverse control schemes onto the touch pad and make them more intiutive to control (i.e. make a motion on the touch screen to make the dump truck spin out). Hate them or love them, they still make at least DECENT games which is more than I can say for alot of other western publishers currently working on the DS. So if MS wants to let Rare develop for the DS, I'm all for it. The idea of Wi-Fi Perfect Dark alone has me eager to see what they come up with.

Me thinks that's a typo. I really can't see Nintendo dropping the DS price when it's been preforming so well against the PSP thus far. Plus dropping the DS price would force them to knock down the Micro and SP prices as well. Unless Target has worked out some special deal with them to sell it at this price point temporarily in order to give them an extra holidy boost, I don't think it's legit.

Yup it sure is, internet enabled games rarely have such a high useage rate, especially early on.

As IGN pointed out:
"Comparatively, Microsoft reported last year that after three weeks on store shelves, just 18 percent of Halo 2 owners had played that game on Xbox Live."

That way they can constantly add new objectives without eating up save space on the card.
No, you are 100% wrong on this.  ONE downloaded mission is stored at a time on the card.  Not just in RAM.  You can play said downloaded mission offline, on the plane, whatever. When you reconnect, it syncs up and reports to the server if you completed it, score, etc.

Okay thanks for clearing that up. I hadn't found a way to access those missions offline so I was assuming that's how it operated, hence the phrases "I think" and "I don't believe". How do you access them? Because it doesn't appear to show up in the normal story mode objectives.

I picked it up yesterday... thus far I've  enjoyed it immensely. The controls are smooth and responsive and the amount of modes and features are overwhelming. The online system is easy and more expansive than Mario Kart. You can actually download new objectives off wi-fi, which I think is a bad ass feature that adds a ton of replay value to the game. You can upload your stats and replays, or download others to compete against. I did one 1 on 1 high score battle and got rocked, but it was still fun. Haven't added any friends yet so I can't speak to how that works. I'll post again in more detail once I get more into the game, but if you have any questions let me know.

Obviously the PSP hasn't become a mainstream status icon ala the Ipod like Sony probably wanted, but it definately is seen as the "cooler" more desirable system by most teens and 20 somethings. I know girls who want one for christmas just cause of "how badass it looks". One of my friends who prides himself on always having the newest and best technology didn't even know what a Nintendo DS was till last week when I was telling him to pick up a Mario Kart DS.

Nintendo has to get their product in the public conciousness, and I think Mario Kart and Nintendogs are definately gonna do alot to acoomplish that, but I'd still like to see some commercials for the system itself.
