Dance Dance Revolution

Who here gives a **** about DDR?  I have a question for all your dancin' fools!

Which one's the best?  I've been told I need to get this game but since I know practically nothing about this series and there are about umpteen million versions available I don't know where to start.

What's the difference between this version of Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 2 and this version?  (Besides the dance mat, obviously.  According to Amazon one was released last September and the other just came out a couple days ago--is that right?)

It looks like Hottest Party 3 comes out next week.  Is it safe to assume it's an improvement over past iterations?

Keep in mind I only have  a Wii.  Don't the Wii versions of these games include remote-dancing support?  Is it any good or just a throw-away feature?

I imagine the soundtrack is a big part of these games, but I can't find any place online that actually talks much about each soundtrack.  :(  I can't even find any reviews for Hottest Party 2 on any of the major gaming sites.  Did this game even come out?  Why is this series such a cluster ****?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I have the first DDR that came out for Wii, and as a huge DDR fan I must say I hated it! The Wii mote extras are lame! I really can't elaborate much because it has been a long time since I played it. The song selection was pretty lame as well, but that's all personal preference.

I could play Mario Mix over and over though.

DDR is where Guitar Hero and Rock Band are heading.  Too many iterations which will lead to another giant cluster$#$#$ and consumers looking for the next best thing.  Relief Pitcher Hero perhaps???

I love DDR but have not played it in a while.

From what I have seen of the play list for the new Wii DDR it looks to have a lot of good songs.

I would pick up 3. From what I have read it is also shaping up to be one of the better games so far on Wii. I'm getting HP3 for sure as I have not gotten one for Wii yet.

I was actually thinking about starting a thread about it so I'm glad some other people here have an interest in it.

I'll add a song list for the new one in a bit.

EDIT:
    * Ne-Yo- "Closer"
    * Coldplay- "Viva La Vida"
    * Rick Astley- "Never Gonna Give You Up"
    * Lady Gaga- "Just Dance"
    * Depeche Mode - "Enjoy The Silence"
    * Vanilla Ice- "Ice Ice Baby"
    * Natasha Bedingfield- "Pocket Full of Sunshine"
    * Pitbull- "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)"
    * Black Eyed Peas- Let's Get it Started"

Very excited for the Rick Roll being on there.

Also it is going to use the Balance Board for some modes.

I'm not really into the series. I've played one on XBox before but it isn't really my thing. The only one I want to own is the Mario Mix for GameCube, but I'm not willing to pay the prices it fetches.

The Mario one was alright. The story mode was really boring because you had to do it at low difficulty levels to start and it was the only way to unlock new songs and difficulties.

There's actually a story to it? It must be abysmal, but it's a DDR game so whatever. Low difficulties are great for me.

The story is that Waluigi stole some musical note thing and so Mario has to dance his way past dangerous obstacles to get the magical note thing back. Later you also dance off against Wario and the final boss is Bowser in the 'ultimate dance off ever'.

I reviewed the first Wii hottest party (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/reviewArt.cfm?artid=14673). I don't really remember the specifics, but I do remember it being a fully competent DDR game.  The four player mode is a rip roaring good time if you have the space and mats.  Hand shaking mode is entertaining but only when not making high score runs.  It just isn't possible to be precise enough to get "perfects" every time.

I'd assume just getting the latest one would be the best way to go.  Also, as odd as this may sound, i don't think the track list really matters that much in DDR games.  I can't ever listen to boom-cheh-boom-cheh-boom-cheh techno music... but when I'm focused on the beat and crazy feet motions I still enjoy it.

Glad I found it at a Gamestop for $25 once.  I just need an adapter for my DDR pad to go from PS2 to GC/Wii and I may actually play it then.

I found the complete song list for both HP3 and X2.

they are basically the same except the Wii one has more licensed tracks and the PS2 version has more Konami Originals including a few classics I am more than a bit sad are not on the Wii one. Though maybe they are on the previous two Wii games. I'll have to look up track lists for the previous Wii games.

Stratos, my man, if memory serves I read in another thread that you picked up Hottest Party 3.  How is it?  Would you recommend it to a DDR newb?

It would be a good one for a newb I would say. None of the songs are terribly difficult that I have unlocked and the newer ones all have fairly diverse tutorials. Also, I do not know the extent of this feature, but apparently you can 'import' all of the stuff from Hottest Party 2. I might have misunderstood what it was saying but it seemed to imply that when it said it was looking for HP2 data for importing purposes.

You can turn off the Wiimote motions as well (referred to as the 'gimick' option) which I never liked. There are a good deal of licensed songs from artists like Lady GaGa and Pitbull so people who like dance music will find some nice stuff there. I've unlocked a few songs through free play so it looks like you can unlock them all that way if you don't want to try the challenge mode. The initial selection seems small but 60 total songs should plus that possibility of getting to play HP2 songs in the game as well should give you plenty to shake your booty to.

I'll try and play it some more on Monday and Tuesday and give you some more thoughts/impressions on it then but so far it seems like a good release.
