What other jRPG series have at least 7 installments?  Wizardry comes to mind.  Tales of Legendia was the 7th Tales game.  I don't suppose there are any spinoffs of those series coming out, though.

To clarify, a RTG doesn't directly use the radioactive decay to generate electricity,

Never said it did, dude.

That sweet song is the only one in the game until the credits roll, unfortunately.  Most of the music is ambient sound effects.  It's fitting, but a bit of a let down if you base your expectations on that one piece.

Those are RTGs, not reactors.  They work by converting heat resulting from natural radioactive decay into electricity.  RTG output is measured in watts.  Nuclear reactor output is measured in megawatts.  There is a dramatic difference in the amount of cooling necessary.

The nuclear reactor itself is a source of heat.  That's how they work.  It is virtually impossible to radiate away enough heat for something like that to work.  And space, being mostly empty, is a better insulator than aerogel.

So let me get this straight.  One of the many benefits of being black is ancient aliens building anthills?  As a white guy who has lost many hours to building anthills all by myself, I am indeed envious.  Almost as envious as I am of how much better black guys look in suits.

This game's existence amuses me because I used to wonder about the possibilities of turning lawn mowing in to a game while I was mowing the lawn myself.  My ideas tended away from simulation, though.  Covering all of a space without overlapping is a classic puzzle, of course.  Link's Awakening did it, and of course Polarium is similar.  I pondered one idea quite a bit but couldn't really figure out how to make work.  It was basically Q*bert Kart, i.e. you'd drive around leaving a colored trail.

I was tempted, but the dinosaur deaths gave me a Dirk the Daring vibe.  I suppose quick time events are slightly better than trial and error gameplay.  Is there logic to which buttons you press?  Does it flash a random button or a button associated with what you have to do?

theres no hydrogen on venus, so Venus isn't a great candidate.
If we actually had the ability to move a planet into a different orbit, I don't think that would be an issue, but I lost my main point in there.  I think that in reality, space colonies of any sort could only serve research purposes.  There is no chance of large scale colonization of space at all.  I'm not opposed to trying, and I'd like to go to space, but life as we know it has requirements that I don't think we'll be able to artificially manage, at least not indefinitely sustainably.

Also, Nuclear energy is probably much more efficient in space given melt down concerns are always less when everything is freezing temperature.

Space isn't cold.  It's just mostly empty.  Not the same thing.  Being in a vacuum means no convection, which essentially means no cooling at all.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U

With USB support, you might as well plug in a mouse and keyboard.  I can kind of envision a control scheme using the Wii remote as the mouse and the Wii U tablet as a keyboard replacement, or one using the touch screen as a track pad for an on screen pointer, but it seems kind of wonky.  We'd be better off with RTS games that work to consoles' strengths instead of trying to overcome their weaknesses to play PC style RTS games.  Something like those games where you play as a commander on the ground, running around among your units, perhaps.  I can see the tablet helping out a lot there.

The problem is that Blizzard has tried that specific idea before with StarCraft: Ghost, and if you remember it that story didn't end well.  Blizzard doesn't have a good history with new projects tailored specifically for consoles after the SNES era, so I wouldn't want to tempt fate on that.

I thought Ghost was more of a straight up action game.  Regardless, I'm thinking of something like Battlezone II.  With dual analog to control the commander and a touch screen for menus and orders, something like it might actually work well on the Wii U.

You know what I would like to see on Wii U (and I'm not even kidding about this)?  StarCraft 2.  I'm dead serious.  If that controller is good for anything, you'd think an RTS would be a natural fit.  At the moment, I don't have a computer good enough to run StarCraft 2, and while I will have one by Christmas, I've pretty much moved on from PC gaming at this point.  StarCraft 64 on the N64 was a flawed port, but I thought it played alright given the limitations of the hardware.  I've seen rumors of Diablo 3 being ported to consoles, so why not StarCraft 2 to a console with not only the suitable specs, but an interface device possibly ideal for those sorts of games?

Granted, we'd probably need a keyboard accessory or USB support to really make the game work, but I'm sure Blizzard could manage a good port if they actually gave a damn about expanding beyond the PC market.

Well, if we had infinite energy to work with, we'd be better off using it to make Venus habitable, since it's the only object in the solar system of comparable size to Earth, and therefore the only one with comparable gravity.  We "just" have to push it farther away from the sun and make it spin faster.  No colony on any other space rock would be very useful for the purpose of saving the human race from, say, a supernova powered X-ray beam killing everything on the planet, because the people living there wouldn't be able to support their own weight upon return to Earth.  You can't repopulate the planet if your bones are too frail to withstand sex at 1g.

Of course, in the absence of infinite energy, space colonies of all sorts and sizes would be excellent learning opportunities along the road to all that lovely science fiction technology.  Europa's too distant for that, though.  And if there's a chance of finding life there that didn't come from Earth in the first place, we'd better keep our filthy paws away from it to avoid contamination, or nobody would ever believe it.

To go totally off track (no pun intended), why do all the MK7 headlines read normally on the front page, but become 'Mario 3D Kart' on the forums?

Someone's trying to have word switching fun, but AS USUAL, they're doing it wrong by using the profanity filter instead of the emoticon filter.  :P

I like Super Mario Sunshine, but I really think there were some missed opportunities there.  For example, the emphasis on water physics would have made the usual ice level much more interesting than just a place with slippery ground, but that game didn't even have an ice level.  I envision gameplay based on hot and cold water in a freezing cold environment, and I just sigh for what could have been.  The setting didn't have to limit it, either.  If the goop can be magically electrified, why can't it be magically cold?  Why can't Bowser have a giant snow cone machine installed on top of the mountain?  Hey, it's a resort anyway, so why can't it just have a ski slope, magical or otherwise?

Huh.  The trailer I saw made me think this was just a shooter.  The Zelda comparison makes it more interesting, but I think the grossness is just over the line of what I can stand.

I honestly don't know if I can go back to other Zelda games and enjoy them as much as I did after playing this game.

So what you're saying is we shouldn't play this game because it ruins the rest of the series?  :)

That is seriously high praise.  I believe I may be experiencing frothing demand for the first time in quite a while.

There are some indie movies that never get DVD releases at all, and I'd certainly like to see them available for streaming.  If it had to be a premium service, then so be it.  And the second scenario is just pay per view for people without cable.  Seems reasonable.

This argument reminds me of the aesthetics vs. graphics episode of Extra Credits, and it's really great to see that most of the options really do have good aesthetics, even if some of the arguments reference graphical capabilities, too.  Maybe that's because the Wii's lackluster 3rd party support meant we didn't get all the real-is-brown titles the other consoles did.  Or maybe it's because this forum's regulars don't need Extra Credits to tell us that graphics aren't everything. ;)

I have to vote for Skyward Sword.  It's the first 3D Zelda to remind me of LttP in its appearance.  I can't put my finger on how exactly, but I just get that feeling from it.  At the same time, it's beautiful in its own right.  It's a culmination of every game leading up to it.  You can see how the character designs in particular have evolved through the 3D Zelda games to get to this point, starting with those odd body shapes that were probably due to the N64's limitations, zigzagging into outright cartoonishness via Wind Waker, and picking up just enough realism since then to become something uniquely Zelda.  I just love it.  All of it.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a close second because the yarn and fabric look isn't just pretty to look at.  It's interwoven (Ha! I kill me.) with the gameplay.  I daresay say that makes it unique.  Only the Paper Mario series comes to mind as a counterexample.
