20 years..Wow! I remember those early days of PGC and watching Billy's JPN launch videos. The forums are where I made some great friends from across the world. I've even had the pleasure to meet some of the staff (Billy, J. Metts, TYP, Windy, Bloodworth, and more) at events when I worked for another site. While I don't game nearly as much as I used to, its great to still see this site thriving and and people still appreciating it. Here's to another 20+ years of providing the best Nintendo coverage out there!

So it sounds like you're saying The Conduit was "low quality", and High Voltage/Sega marketed it as if they were ashamed of it?  Exactly.

Umm... what if I am?  The Conduit is a decent enough game but it wasn't the best in the whole world.  It got automatic hype because it was a game from a third party that seemed to give a damn and because that's just how Sega does these things, but still, this is a new IP from an then unknown developer.  That's risky, period.  And one game doesn't make a trend.  And speaking of existing markets, Sega released Daisy Fuentes Pilates or something on Wii recently, ready to capture that "obviously there" Wii Fit market, except it bombed.  So, of Sega's Wii games, the "bombs" of The Conduit and Madworld, have actually performed better than their "sure things."

What if was Sega's name that was the problem?  Or, heck third parties in general.  See what making mostly forgettable shovelware for two years will get you.  You'll probably still say something like "I don't like Nintendo's Wii game lineup," but nobody can argue that Nintendo doesn't make the best games for the Wii, and this is reinforced by third parties making nothing but garbage for two years.  So when they actually start struggling financially and realize that they probably should have made better Wii games from the start, it will be really slow going to earn back the userbase's trust in non-Nintendo games.  I mean seriously, if you were a Wii-only owner (like the majority of gamers probably are, just liek most only owned a PS2 last gen) would you seriously buy something that wasn't by Nintendo, now, at this juncture?  I at least would understand the skittishness.

I'm sure you'll throw together another long winded Sean Malstrom wannabe type post up to weasel your way out of this, but the reality is, there are many well produced games for the Wii like The Conduit that just didn't sell well,

There's lot of well produced anythings that didn't sell well anywhere.  Bionic Commando bombed on PS360, ASH bombed on DS.  That doesn't mean anything.

Quote
which is why third parties are hardly investing in similar titles.

Whelp, the ball's in their court.  As well as their financial struggles.

Its really that simple Jughead.

OK, this is where I tell you that, yes, everybody here can see you've come up with a cute diminutive nickname for me in the form of "Juggalo," and that you think I am the "Fred Phelps" of the Nintendo fans here, who also have "Objectum Sexuality" which basically means we have sexual relations with our consoles, and that you have included me, by my new nickname, in a list of other people you don't like in your signature and your custom forum title (which you have to turn on, by the way, or nobody can see it.)

But see, you're basically trolling me with every post now.  And everybody here, even the ones who disagree with you, has given you more respect than you have returned in kind for the various insults you have thrown around.

You probably don't like me, but I like it here and have been here for a really long time, and have been a mod here on and off.  I think it would be wise to start looking for greener pastures, before somebody reports this to a mod and you get forced out.  But that's just me.  It's your call.

They're not reminding gamers how well things are going, Nintendo's only direct communication with the market is through advertising, where they rarely mention words like "best selling". Press events, industry conferences, these are places that in most other industries are not of interest to consumers. I can guarantee that at a consumer based event, like PAX, NOA won't be rattling off sales numbers, they'll have game demos out. It is a true anomoly that we care enough to watch the live feeds and get these raw twitter feeds of people on the ground. The majority of people, hell the majority of gamers, don't have any interest in this. We've been exposed to the evil capitalist underbelly of Nintendo but we're free to look away at anytime.

I placed a preorder on Amazon a couple nights ago. The GB/A stuff isn't a big deal since I still have all my games and systems from those.

I remember seeing this on the street. The AMN crew thought it was rather prophetic as well. I think there was a street called Mario Kart or something like that too.

Ah E3 2004. My first E3. It was awesome to be able to go hands-on with the DS. I remember I had the entire booth on video and most of the demos as well. It was up and lasted through E3, but then we dumped a server it was on and now its gone forever. I remember proclaiming to my friends that the DS would beat out the PSP but no one believed me.

Was my first time meeting some of the PGC crew as well I think.

I'm in the middle of listening to this one right now. Its great to hear Billy and reliving everything from back then. I still have the "Japan Experience" cds and the E3 DVD. The DVD production and the easter eggs are still great to this day.

Hahaha, I remember being part of the irc trivia days with Ty. Ugh I was horrible. I think I got maybe 1 point ever? No wait, that was for the music trivia.

speaking of commercials, i remember i sent Berto through the mail a stack of cds. A few had commercials, however the amount of content would be minimal now with Youtube and all. Back in the early days I saved about every trailer, every screenshot, and every rare commercial i could get a hold of, now they're available everywhere. I think I sent him something else to fill the rest of the box, but neither of us remember what that is.

edit: i sent him Game Over with the CDs...they had them ridiculously cheap at EB games, so i got him and a few other friends one.
Oh **** thats right! I still have those cds and the book! Man, I should go dig those out and see whats on em again.

Man...10 years... I been visiting since right before the name change to Planet GameCube. And thanks to this forum, it has helped to get me where I am at another site, also working free of charge.

For those that think Pro started the "Media Blitz" threads...think again you youngsters. I started those threads back back in 2003 when Nintendo was all of a sudden throwing out all kinda of tv commercials and I was able to capture them on my computer through my tv tuner. My school had given each student their own web space which I used to host a few videos at a time. They would get rotated out when I got new videos.

Well someone found the link and send it in to what was then called GameCube Advanced. They gave the credit to that person. I contacted them and had it corrected so that I was given credit for it. I posted more on here, and they asked for more there. So thats when they brought me on there to run a page with all the Nintendo related commercials I could find. From there I evolved into the goto guy for video work from filming, editing, and posting online.

Thanks to the site with the forums, I got noticed by another site, where I've been ever since as a friendly competitor to NWR. I've had the fortune to meetup with a few of the staff from here over the years while at E3, GDC, and other events. I've met: Billy, Deg, Steven Rodriguez, TYP, Rick, Jonny, Bloodworth, and prob a few more that I don't remember. I should be going to E3 again this year finally so hope to see you guys there again. Here's to another 10 years!

TalkBack / Re: Rick’s Rant - Episode 5: Powers Strikes Back
« on: January 26, 2009, 11:09:55 PM »
Hey the old man is back. Lets not forget how completely wrong you were about the DS and PSP too.

I've heard that a few times now, but I can't find any article he wrote that suggests that.  Link?

EDIT:  nevermind, I think I found it.  FWIW, in March 2005, he posted some very legit concerns about the touch screen control interface.  He never says anywhere in the thread that I can find that DS will fail and PSP will reign supreme.  He remains skeptical.

I don't remember getting ANY use out of my DS in March 2005.  The first games I remember really loving on my DS (which was purchased in January 05) were Kirby's Canvas Curse (June 05) and Meteos (June 05).  Fact is, in March 2005, I was skeptical too, and rightfully so.  I had very real doubts about the viability of the DS until I played those games.  They made me a believer.  Until then?  I would have taken a PSP over the DS, hands down.

Okay, sorry for the derail.  Rick was being accused of saying something, and I wanted more information on that accusation.  Back to crucifying him for being a critic.
It wasn't so much a blatant comment he made, more various hints and touches he made in different threads and such.

General Chat / Re: Game Over: One final rant...
« on: January 25, 2009, 03:55:42 AM »
Disappearing from a thread or changing the subject can just mean they are tired of the argument and want to move on.
No it doesn't when they only appear once maybe twice in the thread. When your only there that much and don't discuss the topic only making your own statements is not engaging in the discussion so there is nothing one could be tired of arguing about. If the topic has been brought up before, then why enter the discussion in the first place or bring it up. That's the bullshit that happens.

Yes, this is hard, but the reality is that Ian is not breaking the rules, his posts are well written and the very harsh reality is that we are the ones that start the fights (I include myself in this, and my "No Ians allowed" mural in City Folk is proof enough of this :P).
Why even start fights in the frist place? Why start **** that is going to cause problems in the first place? Have some common sense.

Perm: The only controlling I'm trying to do is make people act civilly to each other.  If someone thinks something someone else said is wrong, disagree with some class.
So why has Ian not been held to this same standard?

So what you all are saying is, Bill should have waited till GDC
That would not have mattered because Ian would have still gotten away with the same thread derailing and "why-aren't-nintendo-making-my-games" **** he always has gotten away with.

I've been here at this forums for most likely longer than more than half of the members, and seemingly bout half the staff by now too. I've been here since at least 2000 on ezboards. I believe almost to fact, that this site/forum will never be like it once was.

Fact is, when you see issues coming from different places, with a single person involved in those issues developing its time to kill that problem. That problem all these years has been Ian. He made everyone feel belittled. You try and talk to him logically and he ignores it disappearing from the thread or changes the topic completely while ignoring those who responded to hom. Its like his sole purpose on these forum is to instigate and antagonize others. All the while he gets a blind eye from just about all the staff.

Since volunteering my time as staff at GCA/AMN/Kombo the last 5 years, I know that content is very important to getting an audience, however you have to also provide a fun place to your viewers to interact. if you don't engage with your audience you will lose them. That is what has been happening here the last few years. "The Funhouse" was an attempt to recreate some of the fun and it has worked decently well. But that is only contained in that forum.

Its like the forum and to a little extent the staff as well aren't as proud to admit their Nintendo fanaticism while also playing other system. Nobody looks at facts and trends to drive discussion. Folks like Ian come in, blow some smoke from the first few posts, and then vanish.

At Kombo, we had a forumer who did similar things in posting stuff to try and entice arguments, not discussion. Other members started to leave. We got rid of the problem, and things went back to normal.

What Mario, Bill, Deg, Infernal, Shifty, and myself have tried to do in the past is try to point out how Ian was ignorant in his posts. I know that he and I are about the same age. His actions aren't excusable for an adult of almost 30 years old.

He provides factually wrong information and states it as fact ignoring others when we try to show him how and why he is wrong. Its like he cowards into a little corner when he is shown he is wrong and and can't admit it. But then comes out again when he has found an opening in another topic.

Don't you (Lindy, Pale, etc.) notice that this thread is largely based around issues that surround Ian and the likes?? Shouldn't that raise a little flag in your eyes? When threads are intentionally derailed time after time, illogical and wrong statements are made, it doesn't help to raise the interest for others to post and participate.

I know that Ian and I are about the same age. His actions aren't excusable for an adult of almost 30 years old. For all of you who talked about change in this thread...Ian only changes to meet his personal agenda. He doesn't change with the times. He hasn't grown up!

Ian complains about not having his "core" games. Then go buy a fucking 360 or PS3 and leave a Nintendo site behind you. Honestly, you talk so much crap for someone who doesn't say much of anything at all and it annoys the vast majority of the people here.

EDIT: Damn, didn't notice this thread was so old when linked to it. However it all still holds true.

If no one's reading it because it's too long, here's the one-line summary:

PLAY! A Video Game Symphony was disappointing; go see Video Games Live instead.
I could have told you that before going.

If anyone is expecting to see any FF music, good luck due to them having their own concert series (Dear Friends).

I so need to go to another VGL performance...hurry back here!

Wooooo! Historic day.

I guess what I don't get is Ubisoft is one of the Wii's strongest supporters but the fans seam to hate their games so much. Nothing makes sense anymore.
They may be putting so many games out for the Wii, but the quality of said titles is crap. The average review score for all their Wii games is 58%. Theres really no point in pledging all this support if its just a waste of time and money. You would think that as the first 3rd party developer to get a dev kit, and having it quite some time longer than others that their games would improve over time. But they haven't. They are still generating 1st gen Wii games at best.

20
As of right now, Combined PS3 and 360 gave the larger install base, I don't know if there is a PC version or not but add that in and Wii is vastly out numbered.
Going by that argument, why are there no DS versions of every game? The DS has outsold the Wii+PS3+360 globally and is a vastly larger user-base.

21
They couldn't care less if we knew about the Wii version or not. They mentioned it in passing because it was brought up in an interview as to why the PS360 one wasn't announced for Wii. To be only making a game worth mentioning in passing when it was the Nintendo base that sold nearly the most number of copies of the other PoP games on Cube/PS2/Xbox is a slap in our face.

22
but Prince of Persia did come to the Wii
It came as a cheap port of the cube version, and a new subtitle which fooled nobody.  Your arguments make no sense.

What makes no sense to me is that NOE doesn't even make games. There is the rare exception for NOA, but NOE has nothing. There shouldn't be any employees there other than corporate heads and translators. They have no excuse to not get Nintendo's own games out quicker.
