Yoshi Delayed into 2019
« on: June 12, 2018, 12:31:00 PM »

Announced by a quiet change in the eShop listing.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/47509/yoshi-delayed-into-2019

Yoshi for Nintendo Switch (working title) was a no-show at the E3 2018 Nintendo Direct. If that surprised you given the game's 2018 release window, there's good reason it's absent from the spotlight: It's now due to come out in 2019 instead.

Along with Fire Emblem: Three Houses this makes two major Nintendo first party titles that have slipped from 2018 to 2019. Aside from the almost stealthy change on the title's eShop listing, no additional details are available yet as to why the game was pushed back when it was already in a playable form at last year's E3. However, there's two more days to E3, so we'll be sure to update this story if more details as to the game's status surface.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I'd rather they fill out the last quarter of 2018. There are a lot of games that are already supposed to be hitting in the first quarter of 2019. Does Nintendo really want Yoshi to compete in that time frame?

I have a feeling they couldn't find the fun in the game. Everything that I saw felt very generic in terms of gameplay and feel.

Yeah out of all the game Nintendo showed last year, Yoshi looked the worst in terms of gameplay.  I mean the graphics were great but the whole going to the end of the stage, then repeating the stage from the other side just looked very tedious.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just end up turning it into Woolly World 2 for the most part with some of the flipping mechanics still in there, but no where near what we saw last years demo trying to do.

I can't say I'm surprised, as Yoshi's Woolly World took a while to release after its first reveal.

There are no games scheduled specifically for Q1 2019 (just general 2019 dates, or second half 2019 for Pokemon games), so not sure why you think Q1 will be too crowded. On the other hand, Q4 2018 already has major first party games in Smash Bros. And the Let's Go Pokemon games, plus Super Mario Party. You really want Yoshi to try and compete with those? A Q1 release would be better for it

Yeah, Nintendo hasn't really confirmed anything for Q1. But pretty much every other publisher is bringing a highly anticipated title to PS4/X1/PC during January/February/March. So for many people the time for Switch gaming is before that.

Not talking about Nintendo. I'm talking about the other consoles and systems. A lot of the games shown at E3 for them are supposed to releasing in Q1 of 2019. Hence, that is why Yoshi may get overshadowed as gamers may be looking at some of those titles for purchase ahead of Yoshi. If people have a Switch only then it may not be that a big a deal since they won't have those options but other gamers might.

As for the other games, you mileage may vary I suppose but I would take Yoshi over Let's Go Pokemon or Super Mario Party. I think it's bigger than either of those although I'm sure Pokemon will prove to be a hot commodity for many others. Still, to say that Q4 is crowded because of 3 games doesn't seem like it's overly crowded to me.
