New Harvest Moon for Japanese WiiWare
« on: March 04, 2009, 08:17:48 AM »
Harvest Moon sees some big changes in its WiiWare debut.

 The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly reveals a new WiiWare Harvest Moon title by the name of Ā“Bokujou Monogatari Series: Makiba no OmiseĀ”, which roughly translates to Harvest Moon Series: Ranch Store.

    As the name suggests, instead of managing a farm players will now manage a store instead. As a male or female character, players will be able to manage a variety of stores such as a juice shop, an ice cream parlor, or an Easter egg shop. Famous characters from past games will show up at the stores as customers.

    Bokujou Monogatari Series: Makiba no Omise will be released on Japanese WiiWare on April 28th, with a price point of 1500 Wii Points.

hmmm I always enjoyed the Harvest Moon games and this seems like a nice way to update the franchise. it's becoming harder and harder to pick up the games when so little advancement has come to play in the series, but downloading them for $10 or something that seems fair.

Reminds me of Recettear, an indie game about running an item store in a fantasy world including the dungeon crawling necessary to get those items and the subsequent hagglign over the price of the items.

Sounds like a boring idea in my opinion and the only Harvest Moon spin off that won me over is Rune Factory.

If this is like Torneko's chapter in Dragon Quest IV... awesome.  That would mean some chances to venture outside the store to collect items (to be sold) and complete other quests.

Ok...so they're basically turning Harvest Moon into the Retail Shop mini-game from Theme Park?  Meh, if I want to play a Harvest Moon game these days I'll check out the latest Rune Factory.  What is this?  Harvest Moon: City Folk?

I could see something like that work really well within a Harvest Moon framework. Gather items and material and perhaps negotiate shipments of goods. They could even go on a similar route as Rune Factory where you could fight monsters and such to acquire rare goods.

If you stock certain items then you could attract specific women. The plant loving girl would be drawn to the store with flowers. Pets and pet food would draw the animal lover.

There could be a surprising amount of depth in a game like this. I hope they spend a lot of time to flesh the idea out.

Here is a scan from a magazine for the game.

Looks a little Paper Mario-esque in the art department.

Oh god DO WANT. I love this artistic decision (also technical decision). It seems a wonderful blend of both WiiWare restrictions and the creativity to still make a game "pop." Also, 2D harvest moon art >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3D harvest moon art.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I really liked the N64 art.

N64 HM>2-D HM>other HM 3-D

Though weren't those characters just 2-D in HM 64 similar to Mario RPG and Ogre Battle 64?
