(plus, E3 2008 "happened")
That was three years ago, people seriously need to get over that.

I love you Nintendo, but come on... Step up your game this time around. I'm tired of Microsoft and Sony getting all the 3rd party action.
All that third party action doesn't always mean success. Capcom, hint hint.

And here I thought I was envious of Rare's penis. Turns out it wasn't even a penis. Now I just want a look at Rare's tits.

BTW, Nintendo and Rare have been seen having an affair on the handheld platforms...

I didn't know a DS could support enough weight for two full grown people. I wonder which model...
DSPhat, but the condoms usually break.

Glad to see Donkey Kong still up there! Retro diserved a much better selling game in Japan.
It also helps that Japan seems to have this thing for Donkey Kong related stuff. Even that crappy CGI cartoon from the late 90s was popular in Japan and had some toy merchandise tied to it. (it also had some famous voice seiyuus in Japan).

More power to Retro!

The game is out, they're making a profit on the game, Microsoft if making a profit on the game and the only company who isn't is Nintendo.
This is true, but Nintendo is making a profit on everything else (WiiWare or not), and any Wii owner jhas to have internet access for Steam. So Nintendo isn't missing out of the profits, just the game itself.

Though I find Super Meat Boy to be a great game, people are just making too much of a big deal out of it. Fun, but seriously, nothing to get too crazy over.

We will find out... in January. Yet the 3DS was made with third parties in mind, so someone must have said online needed to be better.

Even Iwata admitted their current online offerings suck, so like the Wii Storage Problem (which... is still kind of broken ho hum) we should get a fix.

Oh how I would love both of those things to happen. As long as Nintendo really holds Sega's hand through the process.
What's hilarious is that they already did it two times, and they were considered better Sonic games before Black Knight and Colors.

Not to mention the Fatal Frame 2 remake will make it over here as well since Fatal Frame 4 was SUPPOSE to be released wordwide, but since Tecmo refused to fix the terrible glitches in the game, NCL was the ones who refused NOA and NOE to localize the games in order to punish Tecmo for doing a sh!tty job.  I'd imagine after the Fatal Frame 4 disaster, Nintendo is going to make sure Temco removes all glitches from Fatal Frame 2 before the games even released in Japan meaning it's guaranteed to get a worldwide release this time.
Doesn't Nintendo have it's own debug unit so they could avoid this, or were they really that PO'ed at Tecmo? (though for valid reasons)

The sad part is Nintendo SHOULD LEARN FROM THIS, but they won't. They just placed a ROM from almost 15 years ago on disk and sold millions (mario all stars) so they don't care about 3rd party relations because they still making money doing their own thing.
They suffered two generations of awful third party support, have people talking smack about their current system (valid and not) and it's part of their 700 problems they currently have.

Bitch about Wiiware sizes and whatever, but the Wii's current set-up cannot handle it. If anything, the 3DS was made for third parties in mind, and what we're seeing right now is mind blowing.

Nintendo cares, really, they just have 700 problems. ;D

Thank you Retro for taking on Donkey Kong and making it relevant again!
I second this. I have to find a demo station of this after the game is released. It's on my X-mas list, and it deserves it.

« on: November 16, 2010, 12:51:17 PM »
This one didn't make much sense to me. I saw more commercials for it than I do for most Wii games. It had a hot chick in it. Yet it didn't sell. I really don't think most people read reviews, they just buy on impulse.

People listen to other people and what many people said was that Other M is a disgrace to the Metroid name. You can't have that kind of hatred going around among the target audience and expect the game to sell as well as a regular game.
Then what about MGS4 and- *punches himself in the face*

Anyone calling Mario games casual has obviously never tried to get 120 stars.
**** casual term, **** hardcore terms. Mario is about universal appeal, and he has it in spades damn it.

The true injustice is that games that were among the best of the generation (looking at you Zack and Wiki and Little King's Story) fizzled. This is partly due to the Wii's core appeal and partly due to the way the video game industry has changed.
I find that arguable at best. Those two games were brand new IPs that hardly received any marketing push, and when you are competing with Nintendo's games, which receive more marketing then the typical third party disasters (MadWorld, Dead Space: Extraction), there is a problem. We've been saying it over and over again, third parties just don't bother to advertise their games on Nintendo platforms. Unless Nintendo gives them moneyhats, if they think it will be a hit.

A Wii game getting a 9.5 in Game Informer is the equivalent of a 14 on NWR's scale.
Seriously. If Donkey Kong Country Returns has any of the problems I worry about (basically relying too much on nostalgia and remaking DKC1, like the original New Super Mario Brothers), then Game Informer is one of the publications I could count on for pointing that out. The title had me worried it'd end up like that, but it is shaping up to be a true sequel, Donkey Kong Country 4.
NSMBWii was still fantastic though. I love me some 2-D Mario because I'm such a 2-D whore.

To be fair he stated they RARELY break through, and frankly that is true with most games developed outside of Nintendo's games, ESPECIALLY on Wii, where most 3rd party efforts of high quality have bombed.
I would argue the 'high quality' part. Not alot of third party games never really came close to Mario Galaxy levels of quality. Some were very good, but great? ...Not really, but there were some gems through the trash.

MadWorld is not one of them.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo: Wii 2 Not Necessary for 2011
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:57:52 AM »
Let us all not forget that the DS predated the Wii by at least two years. Nintendo was pretty much expecting the DS to carry them since third party and sales figured snuffed them for two generations of consoles (even if they made a profit). Wii took everyone by surprise. Nintendo was happy. Third parties were not and snuffed the system, though we all know what that led too...

I do believe Iwata (not Reggie) is keeping the Wii2/HD/3D under wraps since third party support is still giving the same old whining and complaining (though some of it is kind of justified) when it comes to Wii. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that Nintendo has to give out money hats to developers belonging to major third party publishers in order to get support like, say, Monster Hunter 3, but whatever keeps the boat afloat, stays afloat.

3DS is going to steal Wii's thunder. There is no way around it.

And it's Super Mario World. SUCK ON THAT MARIO 3.

I still love Mario 3, but Yoshi >>>>> everything.

...How many times do people have to ask Miyamoto on how Mario wasn't originally a plumber?

Tomodachi shouldn't be localized. It should be enhanced and remade to work with the 3DS's online infrastructure and StreetPass.
This.

I curse my ability in forgetting the last names of game creators I don't care for that much.

Aonuma is best suited as a director of dungeon design, AND NOTHING ELSE.

Microsoft is probably going to use their mobile OS (Windows Phone 7)  to make their games mobile. With the popularity of iPhone 4 games, and the forthcoming Playstation Phone, it makes sense, more so than partnering with a competitor at least.
It might be just me, but I find those phone game demos I try at the stores very uncomfortable to control.
