Paranormal Activity - Loved it/10

Great little horror movie. There's a plausability you don't normally see, even in Blair Witch, even though Blair Witch obviously provided a lot of inspiration. The movie had good pacing and a believable progression of supernatural spookiness. The only part I didn't like was the psychic doctor, who came off as sort of hammy. Good effects and a pretty surprising ending. I didn't watch the "Alternate ending," and after reading about it on Wikipedia today, I'm glad I didn't.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

Which alternate did you read about? I saw one of the alternates and actually liked it better than the theatrical ending, but I've heard about a second alternate that just seems horribly bad.

Well, there is the Original ending, the theatrical ending and an alternate ending.

At this point, I don't remember which is which, but the original ending was less shock horror than the theatrical and the alternate was sorta like the theatrical.

Ending I saw:

Katie, possessed, wakes up and leaves the bedroom. She screams, waking Micah up. He leaves too. A struggle can be heard, then silence. Suddenly, Micah's body is thrown violently into the camera. Katie appears in the doorway, covered in blood. She kneels by Micah's corpe and snarls at the camera before attacking it.

The ending I read about:

Katie wakes up and leaves the bedroom. She screams, Micah wakes up and follows her. A struggle is heard, and more screaming. Katie, in a state of shock and covered in blood, wanders into the bedroom with a knife in her hand. She closes and locks the door, then kneels in front of the camera and slits her own throat.

I don't like crap like that, so I'm glad I didn't watch it.

eh all i know is i like the one that WASN'T shown in all the tv spots for the movie where the haunted girl stares into the camera and her face turns demonic, that was just dumb.

the one i saw originally, where she stares at the camera and slices her throat was a little more unsettlin for me, and considering how lame i thought the movie was, that was more than enough to be mildly enjoyable. I haven't seen that third ending where she supposedly gets gunned down by cops or whatever but that seems like the most retarded way to end this type of movie that i can't imagine who even considered filming it (unless it was meant to be a fake ending in order to not spoil the REAL ending).

lol halbred might wanna check your spoiler tags..

edit 2: Well guess we have diff taste. I didn't think either ending was surprising at all, but at least the one I liked was disturbing and not cheesy.

honestly, i haven't seen it but the way its described to me (by different sources) it just sounds uninteresting and boring. Maybe i'll have to see it for myself though, but i think I'll still like the one i mentioned best of all three.

Clash of the Titans 3Dmake.  Kind of dumb, kind of entertaining.  A lot of the designs of thingies were cool but I felt like it wasn't executed well enough to be completely engaging.

I give it 6D out of 10D.  Meh.

Is it the poor execution of 3D that kills it or does the movie really just lack something special?

Both. I felt ripped off paying the extra $ for 3d because the effects were LAME*. Even if I didn't spend the extra dough, the movie itself was only mildly entertaining. There were 3 main action sequences that were the best parts of the movie, but even those were "meh".

*what made Avatar awesome in 3d was that the worlds colors were so vibrant and the 3d brough i to life. In CT everything but Mt. Olympus is a dull "hd gray/brown", including the characters armours and even the creatures so nothing stands out as much. At one point the main character dives into the ocean and bubbles are popping out of the screen and I thought "this is the most '3d' I've seen yet.."

Edit: Colbert just said it best:

Quote
The movie was filmed in 2D, then converted to 3D, but amazingly all the characters are 1D!

^^^^

My brother saw it last Thursday and couldn't wait to till me how disappointed he was with it. He then saw "How To Train Your Dragon" and said it was like "Avatar" all over again....so I'm going to see that one soon enough.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

It was entertaining but the plot never really grabbed me. It was nice to see Heath Ledger again, especially along side Johnny Depp. Other than that, it was just an interesting expenditure rather than an engrossing title.

Martyrs - I'm not sure I could really reccommend this, it's pretty brutal. Without giving too much away (as the more you know, the lesser the impact) it's about a girl who's trying to take her revenge on the people who kidnapped and tortured her as young girl.

It's really hard to watch, but you really want to keep watching. I guess, if you don't mind brutal, disturbing films, I'd reccommend this. It's brutal with violence, and not in a torture-porn sort of way, the story is probably the most fucked up part about this movie.

8.5/10

Primer -
Some overly-complex indie time travel film. It might have been more interesting if it wasn't so boring. Characters always talking over each other, barely coherent plot and nothing overly exciting happens. An interesting concept ruined by a ****-boring presentation.

4.5/10

I just saw Frog Princess for the first time and I still can't peg a rating for it. As I watched I kept wavering between a 6 and 8 range. There was a point early on (I think the first song scene with the dark voodoo man in it) that gave me a 'non-Disney-movie-trying-to-be-as-good-as-a-Disney-movie' vibe and it went up from there but parts of it near the end seemed to go too fast for me in their resolution.

I'll settle at a 7.5/10 I really wanted to love it as I had high hopes for Disney's return to traditional 2D animation but parts of it felt rather off though the whole movie was still a pleasant watch.
