BTW it's been confirmed that PSP outsold DS this month, again. It sold more than GBA is all we know. NPD are so freaking retarded with their numbers, treating them like it's some "exclusive club". They can rot and die, we need a better sales tracker to step up.
I'm not too worried about the PSP selling more than the old school DS. I mean, what is probably happening is people are waiting on buying a DS until the lite comes out.
If the PSP continues selling more than the DS lite when it comes out THEN it is time to start worrying.

I just noticed in this week's ad that they had this cool deal and I didn't see a thread on it and thought you all should know. I just ordered Trace memory, Animal Crossing, and Super Princess Peach, and of course I'm getting one of those for free. It's a great deal.

I don't think it would be cluttering it up to just add a memory card slot on the side of the DS SP, or something. And I doubt it would add much to the price either. While you are probably right about Japan, the US market is different and mobile music and such isn't as universal. I just hate the idea of Nintendo losing out to Sony just because they won't add these features. Remember DVD and online gaming for the consoles? Nintendo didn't think that was important and look where the gamecube is today... I just hope Nintendo learns from this mistake with the SP before it is too late.
Besides, it isn't as though the SP would be a replacement for the original DS. I can see both existing side by side. Those who care about music and movies would opt for the SP, and everyone else would go for the original model.
Another issue is advertising. I know Nintendo wants to be profitable at all costs, but they really need to shell out some dough to advertise their products more. I've seen several PSP commercials but not one DS commercial.

You know what? When I first heard the next Nintendo handheld would have 2 screens I immediately thought Battleship would be great for that. Glad to see someone else thought it was a good idea and is making it happen. I also thought a Mario Paint DS would be an excellent game to make use of the touchscreen, but that's another story...

Relax dudes, once the shortage is over the DS will be back on top in Japan. I don't know about in the US, but I think a DS SP has the potential to be a huge seller if it added some of the features the current DS is lacking but the PSP has, like MP3 and Movie capability. These are the features the DS SP must have, imho.

The feature the DS needs most of all is MP3 and movie playing capability. Think about it... if Nintendo released a DS SP that could play MP3s and movies (and maybe e-books and homebrew games) on some removable memory cards then that would eliminate a huge edge that the PSP has over it. Oh yeah, and maybe the ability to play old gameboy and color games as well. Perhaps a USB port and a web browser, while we're at it.
