I finally bought this game, and was so glad then I started playing it... or should I say watching it. This game is over 50% cut scenes, i mean give me a break, the game plays really well don't get me wrong, i love the battle system, all the different characters, and special moves, and the additions to the battle system are more than welcome. again the game plays really well, but you never get to play it. I'm 9 hours in, and i swear i've only played for 3 or 4, i'm thinking of starting the game over and skipping every scene to see how long it really is, you seriously only take a few steps, or a few battles before a cutscene usually twice as long as you just played for, it's kind of annoying, the worst part is that the game is really good, when you actually play it, and that's what really annoys me.

I know a lot, ok most, rpg's use a lot of dialogue and cutscenes to tell their stories, but this is rather extensive, the worst part is, again, the game play is really good, and almost makes all the stupid, and often completely unneccessary scenes worth it, just to get back to playing.

Anyway, this is just a rant.

Hah! Kingdom Hearts 2 is nothing compared to Xenosaga! >XD

And in terms of stupidity and pointless-ness (this isn't even a word...), Metal gear solid 2 owns ALL!)

I rented the game a few weeks back (currently too broke to buy it) and finished it last night.

I love the game, although I agree with many of the complaints about the game. The cutscenes are indeed long, but my problem is that some cutscenes are flat out boring while others are very fun to watch. For example, I found nearly all of the cutscenes during Roxas's story a bore, thanks to how flat and boring some of the voice actors sounded. But once the story focused on Sora, Donald and Goofy the game picked up for me greatly.

I don't mind long cutscenes in a game just as long as they are fun to watch and adds to the story.

Again, if you thought the cutscenes in KH 2 were bad, avoid Xenosaga and MGS 3 like the plague!

I agree, the final panel is priceless...

I didn't even notice the use of racial stereotypes in the PSP commercials till I saw the commercials featuring hispanic dustballs.

But... but it's not the Japanese market that's important here. Well maybe it is, but what's actually important is the US market... I mean, the US console market. Yeah. That's what Nintendo needs in order to survive.

The reason the japanese market is important is because unlike the US videogaming has been in decline for a while now. And Nintendo is primarily a Japan based company. I'm sure if they fail in Japan they could fail in the US and Europe.

And the other reason sales of the DS is important is because the DS symbolizes a major Nintendo strategy plan and that is that you get a bigger audience when you offer new and unique games that appeal to everybody. The DS is a phenomenon thanks to this and could do great wonders with the Revolution if done right.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Rev should be a download center for DS demos

Another big problem (for Nintendo) with this idea is that you can get a lot out of certain games from just the demo (examples that come to mind are puzzle games such as Meteos and Tetris).  If you could download these in the comfort of your own home there wouldn't be a whole lot stopping people from downloading the demo to their DS everytime they want to play one of these games.  This doesn't really work for games with levels or a sense of progression, but simple puzzle games can show the player almost everything the game has to offer in a single round.

With the demo units in stores only, it doesn't make much sense to go to the store everytime you want to play the game, but if you can download it at home it makes it much easier to get by playing the demo and not buy the game.

Easy, retire the demo after a while and replace it with another demo. That way, people don't abuse the demo and try the game out if the liked the demo.

I honestly don't understand why you guys see this as a bad idea for Nintendo. It makes perfect sense. It conveniently places demos of the greatest games in the gamer's hands. S_B is right that not EVERYBODY has the opportunity to go to a store and try the game out. Hell, I don't have that option AT ALL! Nintendo will reach a broader audience with this idea.

Again, it makes perfect sense. The demos will NOT prevent people from buying the full game the demos only offer a small chunk of the game. A demo is meant to leave people wanting for more if the game is good, and if they want more, they will go out and buy the demo.

Once again, I don't understand why you see this as a bad idea...

Seriously, who cares if Smash doesn't like the game.  You're not going to make him like it by raping every one of his posts.

And for serious Smash, stop trying to get people to not buy the game.  There's no bloody point.  They might like it, not everyone has to agree with you, and you shouldn't go around convincing people interested in it to not buy it.  I guess you have the right to explain why you didn't like it, but at least do that in the reader review section where it's easier to ignore.

Somebody isn't reading... He NEVER said people shouldn't buy the game. He said:

"I'm not telling anyone to not like the game, but it was DEFINITELY not worth the hype I heard for it. I'd recommend it only to HARDCORE RPG fans. Anyone on the fence, rental."

He is not trying to convince people to not try the game out. He is just pointing the flaws he found in the game that tarnished his experience. It's HIS opinion. At least HE GAVE THE GAME A TRY! Most people jump into conclusions without giving something a proper try.

And what's this?

"I guess you have the right to explain why you didn't like it, but at least do that in the reader review section where it's easier to ignore."

So you're saying that since his opinion on the game goes against the other opinions offered on Oblivion it should be sent to a place where people will not notice it? What kind of BS is that?

People, just because a gazillion magazines gave Oblivion great reviews it doesn't mean that everyone will like it or that what they say is the truth. If you loved the game, fine. But there's no need to dissect S_B down because he didn't like it. He gave the game a try and politely posted his flaws with the game. That's certainly more that some people do down at Gamefaqs.

And S_B is not alone on his sentiment. A great majority of my friends didn't like the game either.

I agree that there's no need to put S_B down just because he didn't like the game, but it's really unfair to make him look like a bad guy because he had the BALLS to say what he really thought of the game, unlike some people who are afraid of going against what other people say. It's called "rational thinking", people. S_B has the right to post his opinion on whatever game in existence, and he shouldn't be censored because of it.

This is who S_B is, people. DEAL WITH IT.
