General Gaming / PS3 repeating history?

according to an article that appeared here and here, by using blu-ray technology in the ps3, sony may be repeating the same mistakes they made with betamex, mini-discs, and the memory stick. i am not sure whether to consider this a possibility because i'm not sure of the details. is sony not allowing other companies to produce technology that utilizes ble-ray? if so, i could see the authors point.

i looked for another thread on this topic, but i couldn't find one, so don't kill me if there is one....
anyways, a lot has been made of the poor sales for RE4, but the numbers dont look that bad...
"- Capcom announced that Biohazard 4 / Resident Evil 4 for GameCube has sold 1.23 million copies worldwide, here are the breakdown:
Japan - 210,000 units
Europe - 360,000 units
North America - 660,000 units"

I'm talking specs here. and for the record, i really dont know anything on this topic, and wanted some feedback. how do the computer nerds think the rev stands up to the other 2 consoles powerwise. all i have heard people say is power does matter blablabla...but honestly, from what we know so far, how will these 3 consoles compare powerwise?

i'm back from my 6 month hiatus and i was just snooping around the site and noticed something....there are like 5 games schedualed to be released in 2005 for the cube...am i missing something here? did nintendo announce the release date for their next console leading developers to stop making games for the cube??? whats the deal?

despite the title of the thread, i do not see what is so great about this guy....as far as im concerned the best thing he gave us was his death. everyone loves to give their theory of what happened and its been the topic of books, articles, and tv shows for a long time now. but really, what was so great about this guy....people give him the camelot analogy and all that....maybe im just missing it, but with the mob ties, cheating on his wife, and the most annoying voice known to man....i just dont see what made this guy deserve all the positive attention he is getting. i havent heard one negative thing about him since the talk on the 40 year aniversary came up. he seems like the most over rated president of all time. what do you guys think? maybe you know more.....

i dont know if anyone saw the suns and cavs game, but if the announcers kiss lebrons ass anymore, i will go crazy. in the 2nd quarter the stated "he is going to get a triple double this game". they said it like he had already gotten one. and of course he didnt end up geting one. we have seen guys over hyped out of exsistance time after time from penny, grant hill, chris webber, vince carter, and kobe bryant. none of them have ever lived up to their hype. although its hard to judge penny and hill because their careers were ruined by injuries. however the fact remains that every time the media has tried to hype up a player as the next jordan, they have always fallen short. i have to admit that this guys seems different. he is 18 and i seriously think that he is already better then kobe. kobe has the worst shot selection for anyone that has been in the league 8 years...PERIOD. lebron looks like he might just have what it takes to be a jordan type player. meaning just take over a game day in and day out. i know its only 2 games into the season, but the kid is fantastic. not an ounce of selfishness in him. he reminds me of penny before he blew out his knees 8 times....except better. i just wanted to know if anyone has seen him play or has an opinion. also who do you think will win it all this year. i think that if kobe leave the lakes, that they will end up winning it all. i think that he is too selfish to play with 3 other super stars, and that he would just slow them down. if kobe doesnt leave the lakers, then i would go with the t-wolves. go suns!

well its not quite the end, but its the deterioration at best. the Federal Communications Commission just ruled that the "f" word can be used on network television. its absolutely rediculous. its one thing to have it in a movie or on a cd, even on cable. but on public air waves......this is outrageuous. when will we say..."ok we need to have some sort of moral fortitude". im telling you now....the need for morals will come eventually and in a form no one will like.....and our rights will be the victim. we are suffering big time from lack of morals in the us...people tihnk they should be able to do whatever they want as long as they arent hurting someone else....but all the "bad" things you do hurt someone else. the use of profanity is used by people who are just not smart enough to think of other words. simple as that. the standards will keep getting lower, and soon there will be none. and like i said, it wont be pretty. this isnt even a religious thing, its a common sense thing.

i am in the 2nd light house and just recoverd the mars ball from the 2 dudes. however i cant seem to put the ball in the dragons mouth. i dont knwo where it is or how to do it....is my game jacked or what??? there have been times in this game that there has been something really obvious that i needed to do and i just missed it. so hopefully this is one of those times. i have tried everything thing though and i cant seem to find the next step. thanx in advance

an interesting article, but they dont give nintendo teh credit they deserve....totally blowing microsofts position in teh industry out of preportion. but this caught my eye.
"A number of software companies, mistakenly thinking that the global economic downturn would not affect the moonshot growth in game sales, overstocked the retail channel in 2002 and prompted an inventory glut. The same fate befell Nintendo, which recently suspended production of its GameCube console until an unspecified inventory backlog is absorbed."
maybe this is old news to the nerds here, but i havent heard this....thats quite disheartening if it is indeed true. maybe i am being too skepticle, but the way this article tries to avoid mentioning the gamecube makes me wonder. i have only been hearing good things recently with its recent stint at #1 in japan. and i heard that sales had picked up in hte us with the release of fzero and soul calibur. does anyone know the latest number of the gamecube sales compared to ps2 or xbox worldwide? which brings me to another topic...how are people not buying gamecubes! i dont even want to get on that though...just checking for the validity of this article. thanks.

they arent the most impressive ever, but nintendo does have its fair share here. 10 gamecube and 10 gba titles are on the top 40 list. its better then what i have seen in the past. 20 out of 40 isnt bad.

capcom has announced their financial results for this past year.....basically it says that capcom games have sold poorly on xbox and ps2, and over achieved for gc.....but it goes on to say that developement is being cut down for gc and gba and production is going up for ps2 and xbox. so nintendo fans finally buy a 3rd party and exceed their expectations, and the developers just gave us a big F___ U.

Nintendo Gaming / new dev house for nintendo

according to ign nintendo just opened up a new dev house to work on new and unique games....hopefully this bring more mature and new franchises to the nintendo name....i think nintendo needs to open about one 2 new dev houses a year for the next ten years....they need a bigger variety games, and if they cant get them 3rd party, then they need to make their own. nintendo does need more 1st party variety and hopefully they can get this from these dudes.
