Nintendo Gaming / Tetris 99
« on: March 05, 2019, 09:39:33 PM »
Couldn't play earlier tonight due to servers being down. and it seems a patch was just released that brings the game to 1.1 (from 1.0).  However, now I get an error code about data not being able to load when starting a match... anyone notice the same issue?

Nintendo Gaming / Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (PW:AA 5)
« on: October 24, 2013, 10:24:45 PM »
So isn't Ace Attorney 5 supposed to be out soon? WHY ISN'T THERE A THREAD ON IT??

Over the last 3 years the only games I've played have basically been Super Mario 3D Land and Pikmin 3. But I'm super stoked for this one.
[1]

IceCold was right, this needs a thread...

And a physical copy :(  I wasn't aware it was digital only till recently.  Game just came out though.  I'm curious if the translation is up to par.  I'm not ready to jump on the digital only bandwagon either.

There is also a way to win a cool statue, but I don't have a blue suit... or badger!

The next Ace Attorney game which is already out in Japan is not going to be localized.  The reason is cost.

Didn't see this news here... I'm disappointed seeing as how I'm a big fan of the series and wanted to be able to get at least one more title before everything goes to the 3DS.

The Tokyo Game Show will have a playable demo.

I'll edit with more details when I get some.

Nintendo Gaming / DSi Wi-Fi Caveats and Issues
« on: April 05, 2009, 06:16:39 PM »
So I learned a few things today - and I want to point them out because I have yet to see a review that talks about this caveat.

For all those of you excited that the DSi finally supports WPA2 encryption and look forward to playing your current Wi-Fi enabled games online over that method.  You can go back to being disappointed.

So I just got done with a little experimenting today on a friends DSi unit.  Looks like in order to get WPA support the unit pidgin holes the settings into slots 4, 5, or 6 instead of the normal 1, 2, or 3 that we've had in the past on the normal DS units.  Getting to the shop and any other DSi online apps worked fine with the WPA settings in 4.  However, booting up Mario Kart showed that we were unable to connect to the net.

I think I know why this is the case, and if I'm right, it'll be unlikely that older games will ever support WPA and that you'll have to wait for newer "DSi" games to get that capability.

Nintendo knows how to make networking a PITA. :(

NWR Feedback / Anyone from NWR at GDC
« on: March 25, 2009, 08:03:16 PM »
So I just found out that GDC is here in San Francisco, and I was wondering if anyone from the staff or even reader base is out here in SF.  I just so happened to be here for the past few weeks for other reasons and didn't even know about the overlap.

Well, dinner time here... I'm around for another full day or so, drop a line.

General Chat / Nintendo Campus. Public Tours?
« on: August 14, 2008, 09:08:48 PM »
So, anyone have the inside scoop here.  I'll be up in Seattle for business next week and was wondering if Nintendo still has a major campus up there (I recall them moving to CA).

If so, do they have something for general visitors?  Like a visitor center or something?  Or is it strictly a campus for personnel?

Nintendo Gaming / Kart Tournaments

I challenge Dui and his 00:00:00.553 Record for this tournament to a head on head race...

Nintendo Gaming / Pale's single star is only for show...

'cause it sure doesn't translate to wins on the race track! ;)

Nintendo Gaming / Spectator Experiences
« on: March 25, 2008, 09:21:26 PM »
Is it just me or is spectators completely worthless.  90% of the time you don't see matches... more of "taunters" or "runners".  One match was just 100% taunts, untill time ran out and sudden death was determined by the bob-ombs.  Lame.  I just don't understand the point.  Who's going online to waist their time taunting for 2 mins straight?

Nintendo Gaming / Submitted Entries... do you get notified?
« on: March 25, 2008, 09:09:36 AM »
Anyone know if you get notified if your replay, screen shot, etc is picked by Nintendo for they're daily download feed?  I've submitted my first entry (13sec Toon Link Run in Target Smash 1).  However, on the rare chance it gets picked, I'd be nice to know.  (BTW, I've sent that replay to a few of you showed up in my "send" list... which isn't everyone.  I guess you do need Wii codes exchanged as well)

NWR Feedback / Dups and name changes

It's just my humble opinion, but these name changes and duplicate accounts are getting annoying fast.

ie: Pro666, ThePrincess

Nintendo Gaming / Brawl Kodak(tm) Moments
« on: March 20, 2008, 12:26:41 AM »
Ok, for all of those matches when something rather unique happened, often times to the demise of your opponents... describe it here.

For instance, when I used young link to arrow a smash ball and then nailed the remaining two opponents (vudu and SB?) in a stock match.

Or DK bongo final smash to prevent other from seeking shelter in the tube on Norfair.

Or completely not knowing how to play as Mr Game and Watch, but getting lucky no 9's left and right.

Or Vudu for not knowing the golden rule of if you win you shouldn't switch your character.... when he was complaining that I had young link for only the third match in a row...

Nintendo Gaming / K.K. Slider... Animalize vs Human
« on: March 02, 2008, 07:35:52 PM »
So I can't help but have this feeling that some of the songs by K.K. Slider in the Animal Crossing games are based off real recorded songs from various artists, perhaps with the words simply translated to animalize or something similar.

Rockin' KK tripped this thought.

I'm simply abysmal with song titles and artists to know if they are.

Nintendo Gaming / Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
« on: February 22, 2008, 04:00:22 PM »
No thread for this here.

After a week delay (2/12 original release, to 2/19).  Apollo Justice is out... why didn't someone remind me??  I mean there was a whole week delay and no one.... ah never mind.

NP had a good story on this in a previous issue.  Looks like the writing will be pretty good.  I plan on picking it up today.

All aboard!

(Is 2v2 at least even possible in this game?  Can you do online team battles?  These are the questions that are cool to ask!)

Reader Reviews / Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
« on: January 27, 2008, 03:10:25 PM »
- Campaign was a little on the easy side.  Only a few maps that caused me to draw out the war and only a few times where I had to start over, or replay it to get an A rank.
- Lack of Fog of War maps in the main campaign.
- The computer definitely does NOT cheat in Fog of War.  It can get trapped just as easily as you.
- Single turn vision memory for FoW.... about time!
- CPU only firepower makes a return.
- The use of COs isn't terribly useful in clearing the campaign, although it can help when used correctly.
- Save for a few individuals, CO powers seem useless and the boost in range trumps the power.
- Speaking of which, you know how many times a +2 range boost would have helped and I forgot I even had a CO power ready to use...
- Trial maps and Campaign combined into the new "War Room".  Play any campaign mission or challenge at will.
- New balance to unit types
- Carriers are nerfed in a good way.  No longer can they shoot down planes half way over the land.  Instead they can launch rather powerful "sea planes" which only they can produce, or attack other aircraft directly.
- Story is wordy, sometimes you sift through a LOT of words.
- Story is passable, if not a bit hokey at times.
- "Death" is more prevalent in this title.
- Campaign maps were satisfying to play

- Online mode OK.  Limited choices means no fuss over finding a match.
- A voting system would have been nice to allow users to choose their locales and conditions.

Time Invested:
- Campaign Clear time: 25 Hours (Main missions only)
- Online: 2 Hours
- Design: 1 Hour

Purchase Price: $30 @ Circuit City

Target Audience: Turn Based, Strategy, Tactics, War Simulation

Final Word: Highly Recommended to Target Audience

Nintendo Gaming / Worms 2 DS - Take that buster!
« on: December 17, 2007, 04:52:05 PM »
Ok... a few of us traded friend codes, but never matched up.  In particular I owe Pale a match.

So who's game for some Worm 2 for the DS?

Express interest... set up matches... right here.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Bug Report: Mii Channel
« on: November 30, 2007, 01:55:28 AM »
Bug Report:
(Filed to Nintendo AT noa.nintendo.com)

System:  Nintendo Wii
Software Version: 3.1U

Area Affected: Mii Channel
Function Affected: Sending a Mii to a contact on your Wii friend list.

Problem:
When attempting to send a Mii the system reports a recipient other than the one chosen by the user.

Reproducing the problem:
(Following technique has a 100% chance of reproducing the issue)
- Load the "Check Mii Out Channel"
- Import any Mii there.
- Exit back to the Wii Main Menu
- Load the Mii Channel, you should receive a Mii from "Nintendo"
- Attempt to send any Mii to a friend on your roster.

--> You will get a message asking you to send <Mii Name> to "Nintendo" instead of the specific friend you've chosen.

Workaround:
Exit the Mii channel and immediately reload it

Unresolved Questions:
- It has not yet been verified if the Mii is actually sent to the unintended party
- It has not yet been verified if this problem is unique to Mii sent from Nintendo via the "Check Mii Out Channel" or if it also happens when a Mii is sent by a friend.

General Chat / Journeyman
« on: September 24, 2007, 03:28:11 PM »
Didn't watch the pilot/premiere.... previews reminded me to much of The Journeyman Project TURBO!

Although that game still has a line I'll reference to this day: [after playing cat and mouse with a giant robot... it finally spots you opposite some glass.] "What do you think this is human?  A game?"

Nintendo Gaming / Famitsu: Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (Hammer) Canceled
« on: September 14, 2007, 01:26:57 PM »
According to reports on the latest Famitsu... This game is officially terminated.

I say good riddance, the concept seemed weak and is likely why they canned it.

NWR Feedback / Forum Thread Requests
« on: September 07, 2007, 03:15:36 PM »
Thought I had a thread, can't find it now....

Thread needed:

Friend Codes : Worms Open Warfare 2

25
So I didn't feel like digging through filler filled and spoiler infested threads just to get info on the MP3 "extras".  Specifically friend vouchers and the Wii Connect 24 stuff.

I sent the few vouchers I had off to some folks... now what?

Do I bother to turn on WiiConnect24?  What does it buy me?

The manual is devoid of any of this.
