The "Wind Fortress" is a new level that's available in the Apple Mac AppStore version of Cave Story, "Cave Story+" (which is also coming to Steam eventually). It's not part of the main game, but it's an extra unlockable "challenge" that you can speedrun. It's in the same menu as Sanctuary Time Attack and Boss Attack. It's a shame that Wind Fortress isn't also in Cave Story 3D because it's an excellent and challenging stage.
From what I've played of it, Cave Story+ seems to me to be the best version of the game so far. Essentially, it's an updated, more refined version of the WiiWare release, complete with the old and new graphics/music, all of the extra modes that were in that version (including Boss Attack, Sanctuary Time Attack, and Curly Mode), as well as the extra Wind Fortress level. I'm definitely looking forward to playing CS3D, but it is a shame that all of these great bonus features didn't make the cut.
