TalkBack / Re: Final Tears of the Kingdom Trailer Airs
« on: April 16, 2023, 12:18:16 AM »
This trailer does a perfect job at not revealing too much, while also cementing that it's a sequel, and not DLC or a Majora's Mask type reuse of assets, and also that the game should be very fun.

I know the box and site both confirm that online is only 1v1, but "you and a friend" seems to imply no quick play against random strangers.  :(

Still waiting for Wave Race 64

Edit: and Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball (SNES)

Wave Race 64 just came out, didn't it? It was the latest game to be added to the service.

Well I'm surprised, I always thought that title was encumbered by licenses as well.  I had not caught that news about Wave Race, thanks for letting me know!

Sadly, I don't think there's any incentive for them to work hard on the lower tier hard to get SNES titles :(

Invoking the imagery of tears in the sequel to Breath of the Rain doesn’t inspire much confidence that I’m not going to get chokeslammed by the weather again.

At first I thought the clip of Link climbing the tree root (about 1min in) was in the rain, and it was showing active climbing in such weather.  In review, it seems more like just particle effects during that clip.

There are (LARGE) thunder storms clearly visible in some of the clips... makes me thing rain might still be used to prevent some progress to areas until you get more stamina/resources like it was in botw.

The question is, do they let the team keep polishing this title or is it disbanded?  If they are reassigned, what happens if (when?) problems arise after launch is there a team left to address/patch them?

OK good information, thank you!  So it's sort of tied to an account AND a system.  So if you pay into the expanded online you get it for all switches if they have your primary account, but other accounts on the SAME system would not (unless you get the expanded family plan).

So basically I can buy it for $25 for a single Nintendo switch.

No, each Nintendo Account has one console set as a primary console the first time they log into the eshop. Any other nintendo account on that primary console can access that Account's downloads/DLC/nintendo online.

Well perhaps downloads and DLC, but Nintendo online is definitely restricted to specific accounts on the switch.  Any other Nintendo account can NOT access Nintendo online even if the primary console account has an active subscription.  From what I can tell, Nintendo online access is tied specifically to an account with no regards to this primary console concept.

Question... If I have multiple accounts on my switch, and I purchase the DLC with the primary account... do ALL the other accounts get to access the extra tracks too?

Yeah but if they are primary accounts on other switches, it won't carry over to the other systems. Some people have been screwed by having their save data locked out by playing games with dlc (botw) on another switch (family's) and moving back to their own.

Happened to my sister. When she lived with us we shared a Switch and she played a ton of BotW. We got her a Switch and BotW + Animal Crossing for her Birthday and she moved out that same month and ended up unable to play until she talked to me and I showed her the issue and she had to buy the DLC

The addition of smart steering was the boon for this generation of Kart.  It really helped accessibility. A 4 year old can race an 80 year old on 50 cc and feel satisfied and accomplished.  It's a well polished game (as it should be, it is essentially the second version of 8 since the Wii U version) and so I can see why they would just push out more courses.

Toe Jam and Earl keeps getting legs... good game that would benefit from the save states of an emulator due to its length.  Do any of the genesis games support 4 players?  I would love to see General Chaos, or some of the other EA sports games that utilized the 4 port adapter.

Better late than never...  Still in time for curious younger folks to try the game and then ask for it this holiday season.

13
Obviously very unlikely but I would laugh if Nintendo had a 3rd pack that was just Waluigi as a way to troll and get to an even 90 characters.  Also, for what it's worth, there is a very funny fan made video regarding Waluigi that had good production value: https://youtu.be/CZhCZW8wmi8

14
Objection, they should have at least made it to 90 characters!

found this to be a particularly weak final trailer.  It don't see what the draw of the game is from the clips.

God I sure hope this isn't the final trailer ;)

Ha! Nice catch.  I should have said closing trailer - as in the big finish to this Nintendo Direct.

16
I wonder if Waverace 64 is possible or if Nintendo is secretly remaking that?

Never playing the first two games, I disliked her character and move set in Smash and found this to be a particularly weak final trailer.  It don't see what the draw of the game is from the clips.

F-Zero X will be a good test to how smoothly this will play especially online

I was really hoping for a way to play Metroid Fusion though, perhaps that will be the expansion, expansion pass in 2024

How about a way to play Metroid Fusion on NSO?

WayForward is developing the remakes apparently.

Even more of a reason to hope they got all the backend stuff correct.

It would be nice if they freshen things up by adding mechanics/units up to and including Dual Strike

Unify the play experience if you will.  Otherwise I'm not sure how online play will turn out.

since Dread is meant to end the Samus/Metroid arc

I'm pretty sure there have been (thinks...) 3 (?) games to make this same claim already  ;)

Nintendo may feel stuck with how to name the games, it's pretty much become:

Metroid = 2D or this 2.5D stuff

Metroid Prime = 3D

10 years?  Checks date for Days of Ruin... 2008.... yeah more than 10 years :D

Advance Wars was a great series to take on trips, as it allowed for some good pick-up and play a few turns, suspend and finish later type play style.  In that sense, it's a good fit for a switch title.

I wish they would have included dual strike in this mix.  The art style was the same and hadn't changed like it did in days of ruin, so it's exclusion almost feels like it's being held back as DLC.  (edit: and if that's true, that *would* be a punch in the gut!)

But I agree, that while the game was pretty polished there are always a few tweaks that can lead to some subtle changes.  Especially 'behind the GUI' changes.  I hope AI improvements have been made, particularly for fog of war.  I forget which one, but one of the titles had a broken implementation.  Better AI could also mean getting rid of some of the cheap tricks they would give black hole's army to make them "harder".  So refactoring some of those elements would be a welcome addition.  Would I feel like S-Ranking a bunch of the levels again... probably not.

(edit: another improvement... more options for animation.  Most of the time I played with them off because I like staying sane.  But having an option to hold a shoulder button or something before hitting A to fire and seeing THAT particular animation because it would be satisfying ... that would be a nice addition)

Uh oh, I have an unopened Mario Maker Wii U in my backlog, did I miss some news?  I thought that was somewhat standalone?

25
Question is if Bowser's Fury is enough to justify a purchase when WiiU owners already played this game 7(!) years ago!
