Episode 29: Birthday Party
« on: April 08, 2012, 02:49:04 PM »

The Connectables break down the 3DS' first year.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/connectivity/29745

The 3DS is a year old! Also, PAX is this week! Due to all the planning for our awesome panel, we only have one segment for you, but it's a doozy of a segment, let me tell you. Neal, Daan, and JP break down the whole first year of the 3DS' life. Despite the weak launch, it was a pretty big year, and they end up talking for an hour and a half about Nintendo's new handheld.

As always, let us know what you think by dropping a comment on the site, sending an email by clicking here, or reviewing us on iTunes. See you next week!

great show but you guys totally forgot about talking about two big things.

1) STREET PASS PLAZA, My God that fake rpg has taken up so much of my time and become a major addiction

2) Price Cut / Ambassador games , which for the most part have been ignored for me.

Wow, JP, only 2 Zelda games?  Not even Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess?   And what about Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks?  Don't believe all the mudslinging, they are fun, good games.

At least play Minish Cap.   I'm sure you're an ambassador and you already have that.
[Showing off game collection]

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

I've only beaten two Zelda games; I've played a lot of the other ones, just not completed them. As I'm sure won't surprise you after listening to this episode, I bought Skyward Sword at launch but haven't yet played it. I spend very little time gaming on consoles due to sharing a television, and lately that's been pretty much entirely consumed by Mass Effect. I do intend to get to Skyward Sword over the summer, though.

I'm just not that big a fan of Zelda in general. Don't get me wrong, I like the series, and they're mostly really good games, but it's fairly far down the list of Nintendo franchises in terms of my interest. Ocarina's one of my favorite games ever, the only one of my top 5 without Mario in the title, and I really love Link's Awakening, but beyond that I've never felt the urge to play one all the way to the end.

I haven't played that one at all, though I'm somewhat interested. If it does end up coming to 3DS I'll definitely pick it up.

MM is the weakest of the 3D Zelda's, so no loss if you don't play it.

I'm with TJ on this one. Sorry, Andy. Wind Waker FTW.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I played a decent amount of Wind Waker and liked it well enough. I figure it's a lock for an HD remake on Wii U, which would make it far and away the best looking game ever made, and I'll probably play it again that way.

I loved Wind Waker, I beat it multiple times. I started to try and collect all of the figurines in it, but lost interest in it. LOL.

I think I would buy a 3DS release of it, and a Wii U Virtual Console release. LOL. Maybe even a HD remake.

The only, AND I DO MEAN ONLY, context in which it is appropriate not hail Majora as the pinnacle of Zelda game design is when you compare it directly to Wind Waker.

And even then, on most days I would choose Majora over Wind Waker because fear is a more powerful and resonant emotion than joy.

I prefer Wind Waker, though Majora's is on the top of my pile of shame. I've watched my college roommate play most of it. I've seen the ending. I've just never gotten farther than the second dungeon by myself.

I guess I'm just not as passionate about Zelda as most of the people here, outside of Ocarina, which I'm pretty sure has a lot to do with nostalgia. I own a ton of them, but most of the time I'd choose something else over them.

Massive backlog that I make very little effort to get through? Check.
Controversial, vaguely insulting statements about Nintendo? Check.
Adversarial relationship with James Jones? Check.
I should just shave my head and be done with it.

That was a fun little trip down memory lane. thanjks guys.
If I had some constructive feedback, I would say that I heard a lot of comments along the lines of "X game was good/not good" but not a lot about why you came to those conclusions. Probably too much for a scan/retrospective like this show was, but something to keep in your pockets for future 'casts.

I hear that complaint.

If you couldn't tell, I got to a point where I was just like "holy crap this is really long. I have other things I need to do!" and tried to wrap it up. I was meeting with Scott for a live panel planning meeting right after this.
