By a stroke of luck I've already managed to finish 2 games on the first day of the month, so it's possible that I manage to reach 5 on 4, or maybe even 6 on 4! But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Done
1. Pikmin 1 - Wii U
2. Seventh Lair - PC

Goals
3. Pokemon Legends Arceus - Switch
4. Yakuza 4 Remastered - PS4

If I went any further than that it would either be on PS3 or 3DS. Need to think about it.

I couldn't help but laugh when Greg brought up Hurry Up Hedgehog, now that's an RFN throwback

I really enjoy these kind of episodes, gives you a chance to stop and take stock of what came out in the last year.

I agree with James in that I prefer the Missing Heir. The story really goes places and does stuff that I love. Felt a bit more ambitious, some of that will be because I played it first. Some of it because The Girl Who Stands Behind is a prequel and naturally constrained by that.

So my top 5:

5. Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind
4. Bravely Default 2
3. Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir
2. The House in Fata Morgana
1. Shin Megami Tensei 5

My Switch 5 year favourite game would be Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition. Playing it again I enjoyed it just as much as when I played it the first time round, the game holds up incredibly well. The remaster makes intelligent improvements to the quests and the UI, truly the definitive way to play it.

General Gaming / Re: How Do You Level Up?
« on: February 21, 2022, 10:17:50 PM »
I, maybe compulsively, like to try and keep everyone around the same level, you're only as strong as your weakest link. This causes problems with strategy RPGs where you have dozens of characters. In Fire Emblem 3 Houses most of my units were like 8 levels below the recommended level because I didn't concentrate the exp. But I had still managed to beat it and had a fun time, with that extra level of challenge.

When levelling up I like to cover my weaknesses. A point in something you're weak at is more important than in something you're good at. 2 -> 3 magic is a bigger jump percentage wise than 12 -> 15 strength.

For SMT 5 in particular I put most of my points into magic, a healthy amount into vitality and some into agility. If I was doing well I would increase offense with magic. If I had died recently or the enemies were doing a lot of damage, I would spend some points in vitality.

What a crazy game! Congrats to all the Mafia winners, and a special mention to ShyGuy who really earned it.

TOPHATANT123, why are you talking as if you lost? You won the game brah, strut your stuff!

So wait, if TOPHATANT123 is the doctor and already knew ThePerm was the investigator, that makes the events of day 3 all the more confusing to me. Why would he withdraw his vote on Crimm to tie up ThePerm in votes with Crimm and No Vote? This made ThePerm vulnerable to anyone who could swoop in and plop a vote on ThePerm. As a matter of fact, I was about to do just that, but I changed my mind at the last minute after seeing a PM from ThePerm. I wonder how things would have gone from there otherwise...

Thanks for hosting Khushrenada!

Not to mention this part in the rules.

Quote
They cannot protect or save anyone from the Day Vote.

So if the Vote Master decided to save Crimm over Perm then a doctor's protection wasn't going to save Perm in a vote.
A win by technicality, but you're right a win nonetheless.

On day 3 my rationale was that I didn't want to associate myself with the detective if I didn't have to. So I went with abstention with the possibility of switching to a no vote if needed. After day 3 though I stopped dancing around it and just joined the no votes.

What I meant before is that if I had gone into the endgame with stacked protections instead of using them, I could have saved Order, ThePerm and myself from recruitment and the game would have been a victory for the townies. Unless Order had duped us and was really the godfather.

On the last day post I said something like "detective skills" to try and make the godfather think I was the detective. In theory they would avoid me, assuming I would be protected, and go for either Perm or Order. But my bluff didn't work.

Even though I had met the detective on day one, I only started protecting them on day 3, when there would be a higher probability of me protecting someone successfully and when the bombs would come into play.

On day 3 I protected ThePerm as well as Mop it up (who BeautifulShy had tried to rally against) and Order.rss (who we had investigated as a townie).

That was also a fatal mistake, if I had kept those two protections until the end then the townies would have won the game.

Really great game everyone.

There were two opportunities to win, we could have gone Stratos instead of Bungle. 50/50, I'll take a lot of the blame for that one as I was always leaning Bungle. Dismissing the evidence against Stratos as coincidence or inactivity.

Then there was a 1/3 chance to protect the right person during the last night. As a loyal doctor I put others above myself and it cost us the game.

A string of good luck brought us to that point. Wah had some excellent hits and the mafia had lost BeautifulShy by chance. So the townies probably didn't deserve to win, but it was a hard fought battle all the way up to day 10.

I've been pouring over the evidence, there's nothing conclusive, so may as well go with my detective instinct.

Bungle, may I ask you who you think the godfather is?

I'm still an undecided voter at this point.

Wah deserves a state funeral, a true hero of the cause.

The entire game hangs in the balance. Just the 5 of us left.

As MASB was indeed the Blue Pikmin, this confirms that Xander's elimination had mafia involvement. I won't cast a vote yet because the threshold for a majority is so low, but care to explain yourself Bungle5?

I find it hard to believe a lesser ranking mafia member would vote for their own, unless they were following the example set by their leader.

It's entirely possible they're both mafia.

Since Xander has been inactive for most of the game, it's possible that both Bungle and MASB bandwagoned their own team mate to build clout.

Of the two I would say MASB is more likely to be mafia, as Bungle was the first to vote, whereas MASB was the last.

With that in mind, Vote MASB

"Yellow Pikmin: Allows the player to see where all the Bomb Rocks currently are and what their countdown value is. This ability cannot be boosted."

Interesting, a stalling tactic maybe? Losing the red Pikmin was a huge blow to the mafia for making hits. Instead they might try to push for day votes to kill townies.

Would those who had bombs yesterday be willing to come forward?

I have withdrawn my vote for Crimm.

Given that the bomber is still in play, it might be prudent to spread out our votes to hedge our bets.

A point blank question deserves a point blank response.

1. I contacted BShy initially on the first day to say hello, as they put out the call.

2. Then later I got the PM about the bombs and I responded to that by saying that I wouldn't pass the bomb to anyone, I would join a bandwagon against the most voted person to dispose of the bomb that way.

I didn't however receive the PM about voting for Mop it up.

It's possible the BShy said those names as a trick, it's definitely more flimsy than the other evidence. Psychologically though I don't think you would want to associate yourself with anyone else in the mafia. If for example Bungle needed to rally votes to save BShy on later days, then that would look suspicious.

If everyone is telling the truth that exonerates Mop it up and likely Luigi Dude and Nickmitch.

This message from day 2 implies that each of these people are townies, unless it's an elaborate rouse.

"Only 3 people contacted me. Bungle5, Tophatant123 and pokepal148.   So for now Bungle and Tophatant123 are on my most likely not going to vote for them unless they give me a reason to."

I'm going to throw out another vote for an inactive for now.

Unvote Crimm

What a plot twist, BeautifulShy struck me as a townie with the PMs they were sending, it was all a ruse.

If the mafia are taking themselves out one by one that's fine by me

Insanely lucky hit from the vigilante.

The no vote ended up not being horrible all things considered. The rookie cop may have caused more confusion than help, so insanolord's loss isn't too much of a setback.

I'll continue chasing inactives.

I've finished reading the rule tome and there's some fascinating stuff in there. The Pikmin gimmicks are super in-depth.

Also need to keep an eye out for the bombs and the rookie cop. This game's packed!

I'll start with the only way I know how, luring people put into the open. If you respond in the thread I will withdraw my vote.

Another great episode and a fun history lesson with that last question. I appreciate the detail and nuance these topics get, rather than just making stuff up because it sounds true.

Like Triangle Strategy being developed by the same team that worked on Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, using a heavily modified version of the Disaster Day of Crisis engine.
