But...but...someone has already beaten the game in less than an hour. I haven't read the article because I don't want any inadvertent spoilers but speedrunners have already gotten under 1 hour.

Here's a spoiler free leaderboard. Already down to 53 minutes and I'm assuming it will keep falling as an optimal route is exploited.
EDIT: Note that clicking on "view rules", "level leaderboard" or any other link could be spoiler territory. The link I put is just a leaderboard of speedrun times.

I'm totally lost in the Lost Woods

I made it by following the torches to the first checkpoint with the pair of torches and the chest in the tree, but when I go off the from there, I seem to eventually get enveloped by the fog. Is there a trick to this?

Pretty crazy! I thought it might be possible but I wasn't sure how fast the Great Plateau would take and I haven't been to Hyrule Castle so I dunno how long that takes. I shouldn't underestimate these speedrunners! I glanced at it and it seems he still does go through all the shrines and gets the glider first, but there may yet be a glitch to bypass that.

Spoilers for those who haven't gotten to the Master Sword yet.  Only read if you want a tip or my experience when trying to find/obtain the sword.

I'm being punished now for dumping all my Spirit Orbs into Stamina.  When you locate the master Sword, it hurts link when he attempts to pull the sword, and will slowly drain the life out of you and kill you if you don't have enough hearts.  Now I'm stuck having to leave the location and go shrine hunting for ones I haven't hit yet to boost my hearts by a few and see if that's enough to give link the chance to pull the sword out of the platform.  Not looking for feedback on how many hearts are needed or anything like that, just word of warning for those who have been stamina whores like me and don't want to get bit in the rear.

I forget...how soon do you get the stasis power?  I'm kinda curious if there's a way for speedrunners to use the stasis power on a platform or block, put a whole bunch of inertia on the item before it unfreezes, and ride it towards the castle in order to improve speedruns.

Apparently you can do that. You stasis a rock, hit it, grab the rock, then ride it. It is one of the fastest non-warp abilities found in the game so far.

I beat the first story Lynel I found in Zora's Domain. Took about 20 deaths before I beat it. The weapons were nice. It was all about strafing to dodge his big swings while using tough shields in case the strafing was not fast enough. Also when you stun him and he drops to the ground for a second, you can run up and press A to mount him and then whale on him with your sword for the length of your stamina bar.

I found a tougher Lynel in Akkala, but that fight ended badly. I was with Epona and doing a fine job until she got stuck against a tree. That allowed the Lynel to hit me a good deal. I panicked and sprinted Epona right into a rock wall, getting stuck again. It was about this time I realized I was taking no damage, and thought Epona was shielding me...then tragedy struck and Epona collapsed to the ground, dead and in flames. I reloaded from a previous save and ran off, as I was not about to lose my prize horse.

I spawned her on the road to Zora's Domain via amiibo and let me tell you, it is a huge pain to get her out of that spot due to the rocky slopes. Thankfully horses can swim and that got her out into the open plains again.

I fought the Lynel in that first location too and had a lot of fun dying many times.  I had four hearts at the time, but a lot of food.  It was a food fest.  I didn't know about that trick, so I'll try it on the next one.

It was obvious that you were meant to stealth around and get the items instead of fight, but it's cool that they let you just go for it.

I heard from some guy in the game that there was a place to revive dead horses, so you may not be in too much trouble if you lose Epona .  I have only mounted one horse and found it too limiting compared to being able to climb and glide around.  Maybe it will make more sense on another area of the map.

I decided to spoil myself on what Stratos posted and I have to say that I wouldn't have thought of doing that but it makes sense. Perhaps the battle would indicate that is the direction to take but just seeing these guys from a distance has made me wary of getting in too close. I find it interesting how much you can ride this game. I would have thought it was horses only but you can also ride on deer and last night I came upon Moblins riding on bears. There are also these sand seals in the desert area you can have pull you around. I tried to sneak up behind a bear to see if I could ride it but just as I got really close it turned around and started attacking me. Bears are no joke either. Sometimes it is the darned wildlife that is harder to deal with the enemies.

Pretty sure I know what and where this place is though I haven't been to it yet. On the map of Hyrule on the southwest end near the very bottom of the map, there is a place named something like the Lake of the Horse Spirits or Legendary Horse or something along those lines. It is in an area between the Gerudo desert and mountain barrier to the East and the Hylia Lake and Bridge to the West. If you follow the roads in that area while scanning in your map, you should be able to come across it and see the name. It should be closer to the bottom of the map. When I saw it, I instantly thought maybe it had something to do with Epona but I guess you actually have to find Epona in the game. You can figure out a lot of stuff from the map if you look closely. Zoomed in at the max you can see rock circles for where Koroks will be along with 3 tree row formations so if you are looking to find Korok seeds quickly, that's one way. I'd been searching for a site most of last night after trying and failing to find it after awhile a couple days ago. I happened to just be looking closer at my map of where I had been and had yet to search and then I saw a pattern that I realized was what I had been after this whole time. I just didn't think it would be visible on the map so I never bothered to look that closely for it the other times I was scanning the map. Felt like an idiot because I could have saved myself a lot of time but on the plus side, I did get to cover some of Hyrule picking up a bunch of treasure chests and locating Koroks you can see from the map so progress was still kind of made.

I guess I should try doing the Zora part of the story since that seems to be where a lot of you other players are and are familiar with. I was thinking I'd do the Rito village next since that's closer to where I've been hanging out but since no one else is talking about it yet, I don't have to worry about it being too spoiled before I get there.

I think that one depends on the time of day. I remember trying it once with Lasli and showing a firefly and getting nothing but on another occasion when I talked to her she then made her wish more clearly stated and I was able to then show her the fireflies and complete the quest. I noticed that it was earlier in the evening when it worked than the first time I tried it.

Stalk her and follow her home at nightfall. There's a lot of hidden character development you can find if you follow characters around their daily routine.

Yeah, it's why I was agreeing with Caterkiller earlier in this thread about how great the villages are in this game and that they reminded me of Clock Town in Majora's Mask. Some of the village characters are just stale with the same old dialogue but others have daily routines you can follow to get different dialogue and character insight. Sometimes based on the story and missions, you can get even more additional development with them.

When it comes to active villages, my favorite so far has been Gerudo Town (although for aesthetics my favorite has been Hatero Village which is where I'd want to call home base also) with the amount of people you can meet doing their thing and evolving situations as you progress around the region. Just seems like there were a lot of interlocking people and I've come to know the village well. There's a great bit about a class called "Voe and You" which has no purpose to the game but it was added to the game anyways just for fun. I love that the game squeezed in extra touches like that.

I don't know about other players but when I encounter a village, it then becomes my biggest obsession and new quest to meet everyone and start doing all the sidequests and missions that arise from it and I sink all my time into that spot forgetting about the world of Hyrule outside of the town. I just get really involved into the village life and stalking everyone. (Oh, so this is where you sleep at night. Don't mind me as I enter your home and watch over your family while you slumber....)

I'm sure speedrunners are already trying things like this, hee hee. That could be one way to find a spot where Link doesn't fall and return to the plateau. After clearing the first shrine, the other three can be done in any order, so someone could go right to the Stasis shrine. I have no idea if the Stasis shrine can be entered before the first shrine the game wants you to do.

Another potential problem is, the game doesn't give you the quest to defeat Ganon until you get the glider. If someone does find a way off the plateau before that, can they still beat the game? Or will it crash?

A lynel was literally the firs thing I fought when I hopped off the great plateau. :S there's one right by where you get Ganondorf's horse and that didn't end well. I have a number of tricks to fight them, but most of those came from hours of farming high level lynel for materials and their totally badass bows that magically multiply arrows.

Critical hits on their head with a bow will stun them for a fair ammount of time. trying to fish for one of these is best done when one of the spear ones makes a pass to run and swipe at you, they do their running gore attack, or they are trying to shoot fire.

Otherwise, Slowdown is your friend. employ liberal amounts of Fury Rush and jumping from high places with bows. The most effective strat though is to use Heavy weapon's charged attacks with urbosa's fury. the lighting blast stuns them for long enough for you to beyblade into their legs for 2 hits per swing for a bit, and you can just call down the thunder again to keep them stun-locked. note that I was farming them for Barbarian Armor upgrades, so I had the charge attack stamina bonus and plenty of stamina to spin into them.

In case anyone was wondering: http://kotaku.com/someone-has-found-all-900-korok-seeds-in-zelda-1793276463

I haven't read the story for fear of spoilers but is that really impressive? I mean, there are guidebooks that were released for the game. Wouldn't they list where all the seeds are? It's not like a bunch of that information is out there. So, feasibly everyone should be able to get all Korok seeds if they have the time or want the help.

Of course, doing it without a guide is quite the effort dedication and if he did then good for him. I'm amazed at how fast some people are blowing through this game. What is their mentality? Are they savoring it or just blasting through as fast as they can? Where are they finding the time to do it so fast?

I would sooner restart the game than hunt for all of the seeds. I'm already planning my next play-through and how I will do some things differently. Hoping there will be a hidden New Game + like the old games had if you named yourself Zelda, though that may be the hard mode.

I'm going to see if I can do it because I just like exploring every inch of this land. While sometimes annoying, it still feels like you are discovering and uncovering a new secret every time I find a new one but it definitely slows down how fast I'm advancing in the game. I've found over 100 now and I know there is much of the map I've yet to get to. There are 4 regions I still haven't gotten to the tower to fill in yet. I don't mind because it makes it easier to know where I've been as I work and check off areas I've completely covered. In addition to seeds, I've found a couple regions full of treasure chests so I like those treasure regions and grabbing all kinds of booty. ;)

In my mind, when I bought and started the game, I pictured that I would complete it and see how much I could complete it, though, I doubted I'd fully be able to finish it and that would be it. It's why hard mode as DLC didn't interest me (and just how much harder are they going to make it :o ) as I figured one play through would be all I'd ever do with this game. However, like Stratos, I'm seriously contemplating doing it again. I'm curious what the experience will be like to play it fully knowing what lies ahead.

45 hours in 11 shrines, No dungeons even close to started.

Ain't nothing wrong with that. I should check my playtime but it might be a bit over that and I've only done 1 dungeon because I was in the area and like trying to complete all the tasks in a village before moving on and forgetting them. (Though with the Side Quest feature in the game, it makes it a lot easier to remember them now.)

My experience with Open World games is quite limited, I'll admit, since I just stick with Nintendo Hardware so there hasn't been a lot of that software available but this is a very special world that's been crafted that just makes you want to explore every tree and rock you see. It's not exactly new. You could climb things and have a stamina meter in Xenoblade Chronicles X, for instance, yet for some reason even simple things like climbing trees feels revolutionary in this game. Heck, just having a jump button for Link for the first time felt like a major innovation. I searched so much of the Great Plateau before moving on because even as an introduction area it is so well crafted with new things to do and environments to explore. I probably spent my first 7-8 hours of the game just exploring that area and unconcerned with advancing the story.
