I just tested it to make sure I was remembering correctly, and yep, you can pause and eat when rolling or flying from a hit or whatever. So, if you're at critical health, don't wait, pause and eat!

I thought the Blood Moon just brought back enemies for that night only. Is it confirmed they're back for good? I was also hoping that some enemies would stay gone for good.

you may be right about making much longer and complex dungeons as an addition for future games.

One thing that occurred to me yesterday and Sunday while I was playing is that I haven't seen any caves yet.
It isn't just about that, but also, I think it'd be neat if they took a cue from Zelda 1 and had at least 8 dungeons with an intended order and difficulty progression, but there were a lot of ways you could deviate from that. The game would also just give directions to one dungeon at a time, unlike this game which shows you where all four of them are. As cool as this game is, it would be even more neat to go out exploring and stumble upon a full dungeon, like was possible in Zelda 1.

I also noticed that I haven't seen any caves yet either, of course I haven't been everywhere obviously. I'm suspecting it doesn't have anything like that though...

Not that I should focus on what the game doesn't have, because it already has lots of stuff as it is and it took a long time to make this game. I was just thinking about what they could do with a sequel.

From what I've noticed so far, all normal enemies and Guardians are brought back for good.  I killed the Guardian before Kakariko Village then the Blood Moon happened and it came back.  I spent a few more in game days doing things in Kakariko Village and when I went back to that same area the Guardian was still there, so yep, they come back permanently after each Blood Moon.

The only enemies I haven't been able to check yet are the overworld boss enemies like Hinox or Stone Talus.  I've killed 2 of each so far but haven't been back to their area's since a Blood Moon to see if they've respawned or not.

The discarding of a green uniform. I don't think there has been a game where there wasn't a picture of Link (on one Link in the case of 4 Swords/Triforce Heroes) wearing his green tunic / outfit. It's the Blue Champion's shirt that's on the cover and I've seen no sign of a green uniform yet. It might still come up somewhere near the end. I know there are some green clothes that can be obtained by Amiibo but those bonuses aside the in game world and shops have had nothing resembling the traditional Hero's Outfit. When the very first short clip of BotW was released and Link was wearing this blue uniform, I just assumed that it was taken from the opening of the game with Link as part of a small humble village before he gets the call to be a hero and put on the garb like Wind Waker or Twilight Princess but that is not the case.

There is a dye shop in Hateno village that can change the color of any clothes to green if it bugs you that much.

Oh, so that's what the Blood Moon does. I didn't understand what the big deal about it was. I thought that maybe it was just making enemies tougher during that time or adding some extra enemies to the map but it restores them all back again. Ah. Makes sense now that I think about the cutscene that plays when it happens. Too bad. I could of wish enemies would stay down to seem like you are making progress in the game to remove all evil from the land instead of having to worry about refighting some of these enemies in the same spots. Might as well just avoid fighting enemies then since it's almost a waste of time aside from treasures you might collect from them.

I suppose you could avoid the blood moon by sitting at a fire and skipping all the nights.

Played an hour of the game last night with kids, just wandering around the world until we died a couple of times (once falling off a cliff, once due to finding a creature that defeated us in one hit). Won't get to put any real time in for the next week and half because of upcoming business trip - so going to wait to get started in earnest until I'm back.

Not likely to jump into this thread because spoilers seem to be all over the place (lots of spoiler tags covering content, but I'm going to assume not everything will get covered). Kind of disappointed about wanting to play along but feeling like I'm already hopelessly behind... oh well.

First impressions:
* Mixed feeling about the graphical approach early on. Think I like the way this world looks in screenshots better than in motion... something about the lighting feels off to me. Suspect I'll get used to it quickly and that the style will hold up well over time.
* Love having just an open world you walk into, although having no real idea where to start is a bit intimidating after so much hand-holding in previous games.
* Love climbing trees. No real reason for that, just think it's fun to do.
* Love how the world feels dynamic. Little things like burning dead grass or rolling boulders. Lots of small environmental puzzles seem possible (and I've seen at least one early example already).
* Glad to have avoided most coverage so far, as I enjoy walking into the game without any expectations or ideas of how the world works; figuring out what's what and how to survive is going to be fun.

Hope everyone here is enjoying the game. Seems like it's going to provide a lot of entertainment.

Just beat all 4 dungeons. Trying to do all shrines now. After I beat this I think I'll make a new game. Just for fun because I am deeply in love with this game. I can't wait for the dlc to expand in it and to see the hard mode.

If you wait till morning on the night of the blood moon, it will still happen. It is unavoidable.

Also I'm looking into town quests more and character diaries. I like these little nods of character the game gives you as optional. I think in my new game I'll pace myself better as I have been in a rush to see how this story ends. It is fun to learn this stuff as you go.

Edit:
There is a Tunic of the Wild set you can get. You have to do all 120 shrines though.

I beat one of the dungeons.  Stumbled back into the story while exploring for shrines.  I'm trying to go back and clear all the markers I put on the map now that I cleared that.  I really like the horse stables.  And I figured out that if you've registered a horse, and left it in the wild, you can return it to any stable.  I still feel bad about the wild horses I've been ditching without naming though.

I also stumbled upon some interesting things in the story, so I might end up going back to those sooner than later.  I like that the NPCs give you hints and clues about the world around you.

WOW! You are plowing through this game. Clearly you took the claim that this game couldn't be beaten in a week to heart. I feel like I've done and seen a lot but I haven't even got to one dungeon left and have done maybe 20 shrines or so. I started filling in my map along the south of Hyrule and have now come to the Gerudo region. I've seen my first Divine Beast and have discovered Gerudo Link. Who says this game doesn't have a Girl Link? With this and the Sheikah uniform that has the hair in a bun, I don't think Linkle is an actual sister but just another side of Link.

Also ran into a Shrine that's a bit of a headscratcher for me right now. The theme is Bravery's Grasp and I almost completed it but was stopped at just the last bit. There must be a step or action I need to perform but I can't quite figure out what it might be yet. It's nice to finally find a thinking shrine instead of the challenging combat trials. Also stumbled upon a second memory. Like Nickmitch, I'm more interested in the memory quest and seeing how the past events went done than going through the dungeons and defeating Calamity Jane Ganon.

But mainly I spent my time last night in another village the Laurelin(?) Village where I got caught up trying to solve the riddle of some ruins and going over every inch of the southern coast some more. I ended up recreating the Wind Waker as I went sailing and grabbing every sunken chest I could find. I also discovered the closest thing to a cave so far in the game full of valuable ores and then decided to finally fight and beat my first Stone Talus which also netted me a bunch of valuable ores. After struggling to accumulate rupees for awhile, I've now made a fortune and went back to Hateno and completely finished all the upgrade/work on my house so now I can retire in peace. Bought the complete Sheikah uniform in Kakariko and still have over 2,000 rupees left. I could use more money to start filling in my Sheikah Slate pictures but I kind of want to find out how many villages are actually in the game to see what all the clothing options are and how much it will be to buy them all before spending money on the Sheikah slate.

Since I am in Gerudo now maybe I will try my hand at a dungeon then and see where this region takes me instead of trying to quickly fill in all of my map right now.

It actually doesn't bug me that Link isn't wearing green. In fact, I think it's great and another point in this game's favor of being willing to shake-up the Zelda formula a bit. But I was aware of the option to make Link's clothing green if I wanted to. Can't say I'm really bothered to take advantage of that offering though as I like the look of a lot of the clothes the way they are already. I just found it noteworthy because it's not something we've really seen done with other Nintendo characters. You don't really see Mario's clothing and color get changed up too much from game to game or featured on a cover with something different. Super Mario Maker is the only exception I can think of there. And yet, despite the slightly altered look, I haven't seen anyone complaining about the difference. There have been other things that people have brought up disliking but the non-traditional look seems to be getting a pass or approval by the fans.

I know the person you're replying to is doing a lot, but technically, this game can be beaten in a matter of hours since you can challenge Ganon from nearly the beginning. I think speed runs of this game could be very interesting. I wonder if the world record can be under one hour...

You guys are going way fast. I haven't really had much time to sit down for long sessions with the game though. I just now started the memory quest. I do like at least a little direction in my games. I think if left to my own devices I'll just get bored of aimlessly walking around. I went to two shrines that were clearly not meant for my skill level and got pounded.

The voice acting is baaaaaaaad. Everyone just sounds so flat. It's almost like they're not really well directed, like the only instruction is "act British".

EDIT: My very first death by lightning strike! It was totally unexpected and kinda startled me.

I actually haven't found a single memory outside of the one related to the Divine Beast I accidentally overcommitted to finding. :(

I think I'm going to start slowing down on finding shrines and get back to the story pretty soon.  I got to one tower that was surrounded by guardians.  I barely made it up there.  I'm just glad I had those stamina upgrades.  By the way, horses can catch fire.

Well the nice thing about this game is everyone can play at their own pace.  I'm still wondering the areas around Hateno village, trying to do the side quests, finding Koroks and now taking pictures.  I've also spend the last several hours turning the game into Pokemon Snap since the completionist in me needs to finish the photo gallery.  Seriously, I'm close to 20 hours into the game and I'm not even close to reaching any dungeons, and haven't even bothered looking for any memories either.  But I really don't care since I'm loving the world so much I just want to live in it.

I've found all the memories and done that. They are really nice additions to the game and make want to go kill Ganon already. Also got half the shrines done. Maybe about 30+ hours put into this game which is probably the most I've done for a Zelda playthrough except SS, but this blows it out of the water.

Amiibo Rng is also very very painful. Spent about 20 minutes save scumming Smash Link to get the Tunic of  Twilight as the last piece. Though this is a great use of amiibo and I bought the entire BotW set. Hoping they restock some other LoZ ones so I can get the rest.

Also I need to grind Star Fragments in the worst of way since amiibo sets require them to upgrade.

I've held off using any amiibo from the start, but I'm a good enough deal in I'll probably start for the outfits and extras. I am always having arrow shortages so hoping I get some of those.

This may be one of the few games I would be happy to never beat. I'm ignoring the story and just wandering around finding things, killing things, getting cool gear, and meeting people. It is super relaxing to wander and explore, but the various enemy encounters, moblin hideouts, and challenge shrines break up the relaxing pace in very fun ways.

This really feels like a 3D version of the original Zelda with how much wonder, mystery, and exploration they packed in here.

I started using the amiibo when I stumbled into an area with stronger enemies than I was equipped for.  Getting stronger weapons from the enemy drops only helped so much.

Honestly, the best part was the fish and herbs that I was getting.  The recipes I put together from those were good.  I was able to craft more electricity-resistant dishes than I otherwise would've, which helped in the story area I them stumbled into.  Plus, I got some of the special items right away, which was great.

The're a dude in Kakariko who can give you hints as to where the locations of memories are if you feel really stuck.

He only gave me one hint and I tracked down a memory based on it but that was it. However, he has popped up in another village and gave me a new hint in that one. So, my thinking is that he may show up in other villages to help you out with the various images. I've come across 4 villages/towns and he's now been in 2 of them so perhaps he'll pop up throughout Hyrule to help with all of them. However, based on this small sample size, I've yet to see him pop up in another town if I haven't found the location of a memory from a clue he gave me in a previous town and I don't know if he'll show up in a town if I already found a memory without his help.

Stumbled upon a third memory last night and I almost missed it. I didn't even realize I was in the right spot as the location didn't register with me perhaps because of the time of day compared to the image or the fact that I came across it a different way so the view was dissimilar. As it was, I walked by the spot where the memory recall was and happened to turn around to view something behind me and saw the glow for the memory suddenly shining there. Didn't see it when I passed it so it surprised me that I almost missed it like that. So, always keep checking your surroundings.

Yeah, I was just coming to that knowledge the other day. I had blown up a bomb-able rock formation (not a crystal but the cracked brown wall look) and all that was there was a rock which I picked up and found a Korok underneath. Later at the top of a mountain and not seeing much there but a rock, I decided to pick it up and sure enough there was another Korok. Thus, I learned to just start checking everything.

When I was a seaside village, I noticed a chest in the water. Using my magnetism rune, I was then able to see other chests and then just started scanning a long swath of coast with the magnet scanner on. I've learned my lesson that when it comes to ever body of water, big or small, turn on the scanner and search every inch. It can also help you spot chest that you can't lift by the magnet but need to lift up by blocks of ice. At the seaside village, I also started picking up rocks lying about in case of a Korok and discovered rupees under some which surprised me since I didn't think rupees were going to be found like that this game since you get nothing for cutting grass. Also discovered some ore like amber so it seems like meticulous searching of the land is in order. Need to go over Hyrule with a fine tooth comb.

I've found some critters cutting grass and a friend said he was able to find fairies that way as well

I thought the Blood Moon just brought back enemies for that night only. Is it confirmed they're back for good? I was also hoping that some enemies would stay gone for good.

I went back to where I had previously killed a Stone Talus and can confirm that yes, they do come back.

I haven't seen any fairies in grass but I've been able to catch some insects and lizards when do a quick spin and expose them. I was just mentioning the unexpectedness of discovering rupees under a random rock since I didn't expect them to be there because they aren't in the tall grass.
