Khush strikes me as a Criterion Collection kinda fella

Order.RSS is safe streaming Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie on Crunchyroll.

Somehow i feel like this might be a worse fate.

Thank you for hosting BeautifulShy, I had a blast and hope others did too!

Apologies to everyone I spun lies to, just part of the game. Y'all didn't make it easy, so I had to write down which lies I'd told whom - just to keep my stories straight across different conversations.

It was pretty clear our jig would be up after Night 5: if Lolmonade was voted out Mop would look sus, there wouldn't be enough Townies left for us to pretend to be, plus TopHatAnt would likely search me and was already onto Stratos, and Stevey would probably aim to hit an Ashford to stay in the game.
We were running out of runway and had to swing big to pull out a win. Thanks to Stratos and Mop for the fun scheming, and thanks everyone for playing!

Hope to see y'all in the next forum game, Safe Words 19!

By process of elimination, Stevey pretty much has to be the Ashford Leader yeah. Let's go the distance.

Vote Stevey

In case you did not notice I was not that far behind in votes to ThePerm. If someone came in last minute they could have easily given me a plurality. Not to mention nobody was joining me in voting Stratos. I think it is more suspicious that TOPHATANT123 and Order.RSS did not vote for ThePerm and thus I vote TOPHATANT123

That's fair, I guess I don't have a great reason on why I didn't join the votes against ThePerm. I actually meant to reach out to him, but wound up procrastinating until there were already several votes out.

Looking at ThePerm's actions knowing their role now:
Day 1: no votes, but does post (possibly to appear active?)
Day 2: starts thread with confusion on the Day ending early, i'm gonna say that's probably legit.
Then bandwagons the vote against Mop, which was already at 2-1-1 and pushes it to 3-1-1
Day 3: gets voted on, replies he keeps forgetting the game is on. Could be true. Notably does not vote when he could've stuck a vote on Bungle or Stratos to push them out instead.

It's certainly a logical fallacy to assume one Mafia member would copy the other's actions, so I'm not saying this is foolproof. But yesterday's vote sort of mirrors ThePerm on Day 2, where a majority was safe and someone extends the lead.

Combined with Perm not voting Stratos or Bungle to force a tie feels sus: Mafia is guaranteed to lose a member by letting the vote stand. Throwing it to a tie reduces the odds of a loss to 3/9 (33%). I don't see a reason not to go for that, unless you aim to bury a trail by voting one of your own out.

Vote Bungle4

Woof. Totally non-tubular man.
Doctor, you should know what to do.

The one outlier so far for me is Bungle 4, who hasn't voted yet at all, despite being around on both days. So i'm tentatively gonna Vote Bungle 4 until that's cleared up.

Here's what I'm thinking, the Ashford mafia probably got lucky on day 0 and recruited someone. Which is why they're confident enough to go for a hit.

Have to agree yeah. Unless it's someone who likes to play by themselves as the Killer, but Mr Wah isn't around.

@BeautifulShy would you notify us in the first post of a Day if a Recruitment attempt was made and its outcome? Or are we meant to be in the dark there?

I think I disagree with that argument Khush.

Let's say there are 11 people left, because well there are 11 people left.

If no one votes, the chances of any 1 person getting hit is 1/11, because it's random.

But I know that I myself am not in either mafia. If I were to vote for another random person, the chances of any one person getting voted out would be 1/10.

Now of course the mafia could just sway that vote, but then they would have a draw attention to themselves.

I don't think it benefits us to sit around doing nothing, and I'd be willing to discuss that further and withdraw my vote if some makes a more convincing argument.

For now I'm going to vote Order.RSS, as they have yet to show themselves.

That's fair. I will return the vote for self-protection: Vote Tophatant123.

For now I think Khush's logic boils down like this: voting someone out yields a 1/10 shot like you say, but throwing it to a random draw means we have a 4/11 or even 5/11 shot at hitting a mafia, at the risk of 1/11th to yourself. Not too bad odds at this point in the game? (It's a less enticing prospect to Roled Townies, granted.)

We could let these two votes stand to satisfy BShy's insistence on there being votes, but still force a tie. I'm also willing to remove mine if you prefer and do the same, to prevent a pile-on. Although if one occurs I suppose that'll be very telling, at least.

Joining late!

1. Break In, 1989 Turbografx-16 (via Wii U virtual console).
Not gonna finish this,

Now that is a deep cut, and extra points for picking a console that nobody else has.
How exactly does one "beat" this game?

You know, I'm not entirely sure it has an ending? But there's the implication of facing progressively more difficult opponents after you beat the previous one. The thing is, games take a really long time (amusingly if you put the A.I. in a difficult spot it will take longer to calculate an "optimal" shot to attempt), and in modes like 8-Ball you need to play 9 full games to beat a single opponent.

I don't have the patience for that, and don't really know any of the rules of these... sports? Activities? So I tend to lose a lot and need to challenge them again to win the majority of 9 games.

But it's a neat curiosity. There's some odd sports games on TurboGrafx. I also have PowerGolf and World Champion Sports on the eShop and neither are great (in fact the latter is an outright terrible unlicensed Olympics rip-off from Konami which is controlled exclusively through button mashing), but the Mini TurboGrafx also has something called Appare! GateBall!, which is a croquet simulator of all things.

That's the real prize I'm chasing.

Not gonna finish this, but it's a competent simulator of pool/billiards/snooker and such. Leans a tad into sleazy jazz club vibes. The interface means a slow paced game becomes even slower, so I don't have the patience to go through it all, but it's fine.

Star Wars Pinball - The Zen Studio pinball games are typically very good... but it's hard to recommend this specific one without caveats. There is a game-breaking bug in the first table that prevents you from being able to complete one of the missions. Zen Studios was made aware, but either couldn't or weren't willing to provide a patch. The Boba Fett table also is a rather poor recreation of other platforms. As a whole, it's not a terrible package - but it's perhaps the least impressive of the three 3DS pinball games they've released. Still a fun enough game if you enjoy pinball though.

Played it on Wii U and had similar technical problems. I do still prefer its tables over the ones in Zen Pinball 2 though.

That E3 they basically only had Zelda BOTW and Pokémon Sun/Moon in their booth.

I've seen zero of the 2022 candidates in any category, although I did hear the James Bond theme song on the radio.

6 more folks to 15.  Also for anyone who has signed up can you give me some feedback on if Alexia should get a Day 0 Neighborization?

Should townies get 1 time use items?  They would be mainly defensive and offensive items and maybe 1 hit kill items on a player(s) depending on what items I would select and it would be one time use only and carry over if neighborized for use for Alexia's group.  Let me know what you think.

Depending on player count I would give her the Day 0 recruit option, especially since it's a coin flip too. If she has to survive to Day 3 before getting her first recruit on Night 2, that might be quite late? With 10 players I think making her wait makes more sense.

What happens if Alexia goes out, do her powers transfer to her 1st recruit?

RE: items, just depends how simple/complicated you'd wanna make the game. Without them you have a pretty standard setup with just the Recruiting side as a wrench thrown in. If half the players have items/roles/are recruits, there are a lot more variables to juggle. I don't hate the idea though, and it does add some Resident Evil flair if people get small herbs, ink ribbons, or keys.

I didn't even know GT7 was being released for PS4.

Probably for the best, looking at those numbers. Has to be supply constrained surely, cause otherwise that's a dismal launch on PS5.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U External USB Storage Devices
« on: March 16, 2022, 06:57:57 PM »
Same here, got a $50 hard drive and a Y cable plugged into both of the back USB ports. No issues the past 5 years. *knocks on wood*
250 or 320GB will be more than enough, those XCX packs are like 10GB tops. As for the Y cable, I believe it's a single Micro USB-Type B leading into two regular USB Type A plugs you're looking for. They're like 5 bucks on ebay/amazon.
The reason people go for Y cables with regular HDDs is because the Wii U uses low-powered USB ports, so you run the risk of them not being able to draw enough power from a single port.

I feel like I remember Pokepal mentioning they used a lower power-drawing SSD in an enclosure with a single USB cable, but could be mistaken. I'm also not sure if the i/o data transfer on Wii U is high enough to take advantage of SSD read/write speeds, probably not?

You could also go for a thumb drive or even an SD card in a USB hub, but back in the day people often said those aren't designed to constantly read/write data back and forth, so using them for gaming would kill them quite fast. Maybe by now those storage mediums have become more durable? But if a HDD is possible, I'd still go for that.

Probably for the best. Releasing cartoony wargames while Ukrainian hospitals are being shelled feels wrong. If I'm not mistaken the first Advance Wars lets you capture cities to heal troops, which reads especially poorly while so many cities full of civilians are getting bombed indiscriminately.

Announcing Mafia #91: Hades!

What? The 91st forum mafia game, hosted by yours Narrating truly, themed around the 2020 game Hades.
Where? In the deepest levels of the Greek Underworld, where River Styx welcomes those who boarded near Feneos, there lies... the NWR forum.
When? Time is relative in the eternal toiling that is our (after)life. But May or June seems doable.
How? I've got two versions in mind, one simple, one more complicated. Depending how simple/complicated the upcoming games are, I will pick whichever is the opposite of what came before.
Why? Why indeed.

Before the game starts I'll run a poll to see how familiar folks are with this game. This'll make it easily understandable to everyone, regardless of whether they've played Hades. It'll also help decide how cagey I'll be regarding spoilers.

Well it has been longer than a week and I just got news than in one week I will get more news on my housing voucher so I am going to wait to post signups for another week so I can see if I get a confirmation of a voucher and I can decide if I host a game or not.  If no news then I will post the signup thread and if there is good news on that I can forgo the game till after I am settled in again and someone else can host a game.

I am sorry for the delay but I want to make sure I give my full attention to hosting and what the game deserves.

Take your time Bshy, the game can wait. Good luck!

General Gaming / Re: Digital games and you

Kind of a mix. Sometimes I get (used) physical copies because they're cheaper, other times I'm willing to spend more for the convenience of a digital install. Particularly on Switch I agree with Insano:

For me, it's a matter of convenience. Especially on something like Switch, it's so nice to be able to pick up the system and immediately have access to my entire library. With games being so dependent on patches these days owning the physical media isn't really going to be better if the servers get shut down, and storage is still a significant concern because of that as well, so I really don't see that many advantages of physical anymore.

I do still see some advantages, particularly when it comes to the aftermarket of EOL devices. But it also stinks to go on a long trip and forget your cartridge or wanting to swap one out.
(This is envisioning a theoretical reality in which I get to take long trips, of course.)
