Honestly, I never really bothered to learn most of the things you can do as a mod. If it wasn't about moving or closing threads or banning people I never really knew much about it.

To be truthful, short of editing titles without it showing that they've been edited, I don't think there's a real way to edit the text of a post without it showing (short of hacking the database or such...)

Hacking the database seems like a bit above my level, and the Simple Machines wiki probably couldn't walk me through it. Also, the fact that I know less about admin powers than a guy who doesn't have them is probably not good.

I don't think anyone's actually gone in there in several years. I could just do it and not tell anyone and wait for word to spread.


EDIT: Aw, damn. One of the major failures of the Great Forum Crash of 2008 was that the forum software allowed Ty Shugart to type in a * as a variable and ban literally every user in one shot. Sadly, Simple Machine Forums are at least slightly better than that, because I just tried the same trick to make everyone mods in that section and it didn't work.

I need to hire some new mods now that I'm an admin. With this level of power, minor things like banning spambots and giving people warnings for no good reason are beneath me. Also, we were originally supposed to have two NWR Junior Rangers, more colloquially known as moderators, but then one of them murdered the other and nobody ever bothered to maybe replace him. I think I'll organize some sort of death race to choose somebody. Or if anyone wants to pay me off, it's yours.

It seems now, we often get reports on stuff like "he said a curse word..." and a lot of folks would rather make "witty" replies to the spam instead of reporting it.

I think there are plenty of cases where replies that can at least loosely be described as witty are the proper response. Some spam threads are just too good to get rid of. I think we should encourage people to report spam posts but allow them to make a case in the report that we should just remove the spam links and move it to the funhouse.

As someone who has forgone posting on the forums, I believe I have matched all other mods' completion of the prerequisite absolute indifference to the forums and thus deserve autocratic mod powers to bully Khush do whatever the hell the other absent mods do.

Anywhoo, to answer Khush's question - spam should be deleted, plain and simple.  Leaving it up in any form only serves the spammer's needs (keyword spamming for search results) and it encourages more spammers (Oh, hey, they don't delete the spam quickly - let's go there).

I've come to the realization that Crimm and I are now in a state of Mutually Assured Destruction. With our arsenals, an armed conflict between us would destroy the entire forums. I, as the noble and charismatic Leader of the Free Forums, and Crimm, as the tyrannical despot who cares nothing for his subjects, just his own twisted power fantasies, need to find a way to prevent this from escalating into a massive display of childishly changing the names of things and relentlessly locking and deleting anything we're opposed to.

Also, I heard that there's some guy named James Jones who writes for this site who really sucks.

EDIT: I will, however, concede that my opponent's new name for the Funhouse is pretty brilliant. If he were to actually visit the forums more than twice a month he might have a leg to stand on.

I'd like to point out, if I was a horrible, evil person who went around changing posts (outside of the Funhouse) I would have fixed this title a long time ago.  It bugs me every time I see it.
