You know, I really preferred one of them when it was known as "Kablooey".

Nintendo will be updating the Super Nintendo app for Switch Online on July 28 with three new titles. The new arrivals are:

  • Claymates is a 1993/94 (Europe/NA) 2d platformer from the same Interplay development team as the ClayFighter series. The main character is transformed into clay and has to find doses of a serum to transform into a series of animals to rescue his kidnapped father.
  • Jelly Boy, previously only released in Europe in 1995, is another morphing platformer where the main character tries to meet the managers of factories by transforming into objects. It was developed by porting specialists Probe Software and published by Ocean.
  • Bombuzal, also known as Kablooey in North America, is a 1991 puzzle game where the goal is to set off a series of bombs in a way that the player character won't be caught in the blowback.

The Japanese lineup (available to Switch Online subscribers in other countries) has Bombuzal, Tuff E Nuff (as Dead Dance) and Shin Megami Tensei if.

Well, I think MST3K probably best summed this up: They just didn't care.

Even as someone who really enjoys the obscure picks each update, this selection is pretty bad.  We've probably reached the bottom of the barrel for games Nintendo has currently licensed for the NES and SNES.  Wouldn't be surprised if new systems are going to be added in September.

Not quite. I was thinking about this yesterday when the selections were announced and there are some deep cuts left that could be available if Nintendo felt like some extra effort was justified for them. Super Scope games. Super Scope 6, Battle Clash, Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, and Yoshi's Safari are available if they can get the joy-con's to function like a light gun. Maybe Tin Star would be available too. However, part of the design around Super Scope games was using the eye-piece to aim so that would be gone. Nintendo did get Duck Hunt to work with the Wiimotes so maybe they same could be done here. They may also generate a bit more buzz or excitement than Jelly Boy.

Why stop there?!?! They could start selling overpriced plastic shells for the joy cons to really bring out the nostalgia! Or maybe make it out of cardboard to be the next wave of labo! Only 59.99 for blueprints (cardboard not included).

Labo already has a gun thing, right? Like a bazooka? So, as far as I'm concerned, the leg work is already done.

I've never heard of these, they look interesting, and I'll check them out. I'm also hoping they add some more obscure first party games too, like all of those spin-off Mario games, or maybe even some of the Satellaview content.

It's the weirdest thing...

"Bombuzal" is the Japanese name of the game, but in the US, it's titled "Kablooey." The version here is the US version, complete with "Kablooey" on the title screen, but the box on the selection list is the US box with "Bombuzal" edited in place of "Kablooey." Why would they bother to do this? Is there some reason they can't call it "Kablooey" anymore? Doesn't anyone else care to get to the bottom of this?! I gotta know!!!!!!

...Ahem. I mainly know this since I actually have the cartridge. It's a decent puzzle game with confusing controls, but Charlie Blast's Territory on N64 does the concept better.

As far as more additions go, there are still more Nintendo-published titles they could add, I wonder why they aren't. Some which come to mind are EarthBound, Wario's Woods, and Yoshi's Cookie. There's also Super Mario RPG, but I'm still confused about who all has the rights to it.

I'd definitely be into Khushrenada's suggestion of Super Scope games, I was always curious about that thing but never tracked one down.
