That's all I got for now. Let me know if there are any mistakes or anything else that needs to be added.

Great post, I even learned a couple things I didn't know before. This should definitely be stickied.

That's why I took the time to make it.
People have been asking lots of questions on how do you do this and how do you do that.

Glad it helped you out.

This is redundant though since everything except spoiler is found by clicking the Help button.

Well then why do people still keep asking? I'm just putting it where everyone can see it.

also the src img code isn't in the Help section either.
But I was just listing everything that I could think of off the top of my head.

This is redundant though since everything except spoiler is found by clicking the Help button.
It's also redundant because almost every single one of these now has a button assigned to it if someone clicks on the reply button.  But, like BNM said, it seems like a lot of posters--including some who have been around for a long time and even some staff members--don't know how to do a lot of this stuff.

This should definitely be stickied.
Agreed.

Also, BNM, you forgot abbreviations.

I got tired of typing. That was one of the next ones to go up, I just wanted to post the ones that are most commonly used and the ones that have been asked about most recently.

I'll put it up next though.

There should be a way to show the actual [ and ] symbols and not have it converted into BB code.

Can you explain it to me and convert this for me too?

I will always have to copy/paste your Abbr. fix back into that if I ever edit it again.
The forum software always like to screw with my post and move tags around. It's very annoying to have to go back and fix all sorts of stuff everytime I edit.

I think it's an issue with FF 3.6 but I'm not sure.

Yeah I think it is 1,000 posts. Once you get that amount you click on applaud or smite to give + and - to someone. You can only give 1 applaud or smite for one person a hour. Meaning that say I applaud you I can't applaud you again for another hour. I can give other people applauds and smites as well.

How to enable AutoPager on the NWR Forums

1. Download the AutoPager extension for your browser [Chrome (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mmgagnmbebdebebbcleklifnobamjonh) | Firefox (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/4925/addon-4925-latest.xpi?src=dp-btn-primary)]

2. Goto Options -> Search Rules Online

3. Enter NintendoWorldReport into the URL bar and then click on Search

4. I have made 2 rules for NWR
a) Is for thread pages
- will continually load the pages while reading the thread. Only problem is that it will not stop loading pages... even after you've reached the end of the thread.

b) Is for Sub Forum Index
-Will load all the pages of threads off of the main forum Index.
*This is the one I recommend you use*

5. Click Install of the Rule you choose to use.

6. Now you can endlessly scroll through all the topics and/or post

Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on February 04, 2012, 05:08:34 PM
How to Embed YouTube Videos into your Post

There is a new button in your Advanced Edit window. A YouTube Button.
You paste your link, highlight it and then click the button.

But I'm going to show you how to do it manually too.

1. Paste your YouTube Link
ex. www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp)

2. At the beginning of your link, add the tag [youtube]
at the end of your link add the tag [/youtube]
ex. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp[/youtube]

3. Hit post and your youtube link will now be embedded as a video in the forum
ex. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp[/youtube]

there are some limitations though. Notice how the above video did not work properly.
You might have to edit your link if it includes an & sign
In the above link if I remove the 2nd & sign and everything after it, it works fine
ex.

delete "&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp" from the end of the link
(that is everything starting at the "&" sign going down to the end of the link)

vvvv.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A&index=61&feature=plcp

and now
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8TewO_zg84&list=UUxtthERX6qmEOdR3O8IF0_A[/youtube]
becomes

This means that if you embed a video you will not be able to do this YouTube trick: start it at a specific point in a YouTube video. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=30575.msg591990#msg591990). It will have to start from the beginning.

Just wanted to add that you can't link a youtube video if it says "HTTPS:"

get rid of the "S" on the end so it reads "HTTP:"

also if you copy/paste a link that was embedded somewhere else, get rid of everything in the link inbetween the "?" and the "v"

[youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=y8TewO_zg84[/youtube]

How to Avoid Hidden Forum Code Errors in your post
when using the advanced editor

In the advanced editor window, hit that RED A all the way to the right just above the text box, and it will reveal all the code that was hidden before.

The common types of errors this corrects and/or lets you fix:
- Unintended Double Spacing

- Text shrinking when you start back spacing

- Completely forked up formating when copy/pasting text from a different site.
ie.

Haha. I wonder where you got the inspiration for that post, BlackNMild2k1...

There are 2 ways to post. Quick Reply, which shows up at the bottom of the page when you read post.
and Advanced Editor, which is what you get when you click "Preview" in your Quick Reply, or when you click "Modify" in one of your post.

In Quick Reply you have to manually enter in any forum code, so there likely won't be too many errors (except for maybe copy/paste from other sites, but I'm not sure). Advanced Editor is where the real problems happen.

Embedding still isn't working. I followed your directions to the T.

Hell, I even copy and pasted an embed you did and it didn't work.

Nevermind. I had to remove formatting apparently.

Why isn't this stickied anymore? I had to go dig this up because I forgot how to supress BBcode which may be important for me in scolding lucariofan on posting images wrong making a rules/how to vote page for mafia,

How do you embed tweets?

I'm not sure that we can embed tweets. I think you need Admin access to do certain code,

I would just use the (right click) Imgur add-on in your Firefox browser* to save a screenshot of the tweet (you can even crop it before saving) and it will give you the link with the img tag already around it.

*Chrome version doesn't have the option to screenshot for some reason.

That's too much work.

But thanks!

That's too much work.

But thanks!

I'll make it as easy as I can. I found a screeshot to Imgur extension for Chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/imgur-extension-by-metron/ehoopddfhgaehhmphfcooacjdpmbjlao?utm_source=gmail (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/imgur-extension-by-metron/ehoopddfhgaehhmphfcooacjdpmbjlao?utm_source=gmail)

Right click anywhere on the tweet (other than the pic), then select Imgur > Capture Area

(rt click > Imgur > capture area) then select the area and it automatically uploads and gives you a link
(rt click > Imgur > capture view/page) automatically uploads whats in view in your browser window and gives you the new link. It will capture it at the size of your current window, so you can collapse the window to the size you want the pic... or to crop out extra stuff and it will only upload what's in view.

it's very quick and very simple.

this took roughly 3 seconds:

How do you read spoiler text if browsing on a phone? iOS if that matters. Thanks.

I would say press down on the word like your going to select text to copy/paste, and then select the spoilered area to reveal the spoilered text.

But I don't have an iPhone, so i can't confirm that's the way to do it on that device. But it works that way on an Android.

Thanks. I had tried that previously, but my phone kept trying to define what I highlighted. I'll give it another go and be more patient with it.

What I've done is just hit the quote button for the post with spoilered text. The text will show up in the reply box with the spoiler tags around it.

Thanks, I'll try that. It appears to be this site in particular that my phone doesn't like. The "press down" technique works for me elsewhere. I know NWR is supported by volunteers, so I'm not complaining, just posting for edification purposes.

If you get exhausted by unsightly and life-draining walls of text, Adblock can do the trick. Before and after:
