In case anyone else cares this game has no 3D effect.  I was very disappointed when I fired the game up and found this out.  Probably would have gotten the game on WiiU instead if I had known this.

WiiU: Hyrule Warriors I think it will be great to finally be able to play as some of the other characters from the Zelda franchise.  The game looks significantly better now than when they first showed a trailer for it.

3DS: Fantasy Life This is one of several games that was shown years ago that I hoped would get localized.  Nice to see it is finally being released here.  Better late than never.

was offline mode disabled or something?

I haven't played a Steam game in a loooong while....
I just checked. Its still there and still works.  Don't know why everyone thinks with Steam you have to have an Internet connection.  While I am sure some games require it Steam in general does not.

I got an email from Amazon this morning saying my copy has shipped.  Looks like the rumor is false.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Damn that stupid WiiU tablet.

I think this is the primary reason why I am not nearly as excited for the WiiU as I have been for past Nintendo systems.  I vastly prefer the wiimote + nunchuk over dual analog.  I would have preferred an improved version of the wiimote over the tablet controller.  To me it really is a step backwards.  I understand that the wiimote is still an option, but I have my doubts to how much it will actually be utilized in single player experiences.  I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of third party games don't allow it as an option.

I hate how some of you keep saying that the Wii had nothing but shovelware. I have about 80 games for my Wii and I guarantee that the majority of it isn't shovelware or casual. Maybe instead of worrying about all of the games that weren't being released on the Wii you should have tried some that were. Maybe then you would be more satisfied with it like I am. And if you aren't satisfied with Nintendo anymore then go buy another system and move on with your life. No one is forcing you to buy Nintendo's systems or games. Coming here and arguing isn't going to change anything.

I had to dig a bit to find this again, but here is a link to a discussion at CAG about places to import the game from in case anyone is having issues still.

Whats going on with the 4 swords zelda for free?
If they give it online I might have to pick up the 3ds a little early.

It's going to be a port of the GBA version. I wouldn't be surprised if it only supported local multiplayer.
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/14/free-dsiware-four-swords-is-the-gba-version/

I've never played Four Swords before- What are the differences between the Gamecube and GBA versions?

They are completely different.  It has been a long time since I played the GBA one, but if I remember right you just played through a short randomly generated level.  And of course could play it over and over again. I remember it being more like the overworld than adungeon.  Plus the different players didn't have to be anywhere near each other since they had their own screens.  I don't remember what you had to do to complete the level.  The gamecube one was pretty much a complete zelda game with a story, dungeons, and bosses.  Everyone pretty much had to be on the same screen except individual players could go into houses and would then switch to being on their GBA.  In both games there are puzzles that require multiple players to complete.

I'm almost tempted to get Ghost Recon. It looks somewhat like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, which I loved. But it's also been compared to Advance Wars, which I didn't like. Ultimately, I fear that I'd buy it and not have time to play it.

Having played all three games perhaps I can comment on this in a hopefully useful manner.  For reference, I also did not like Advanced Wars.  However, I also got bored with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and quit playing it long before beating it.  Whereas in FFTA you generally fight mostly short battles (if I remember right) in Ghost Reacon battles are typically 30-45min with some being up to 1.5hrs.  If any of your main characters dies you have to start the battle from the beginning.  Playing on the hardest difficultly there were only 4-5 mission that I ever had to repeat and usually it is much easier the second time since you know what to expect.  If I was to compare Ghost Reacon to anything it would be Fire Emblem.

I agree completely.  I see everyone complaining about the launch line up being horrible and there being not enough games.  Seriously, have these people never been around for a console launch before?  It could certainly be a heck of a lot worse (Ex. DS launch).

I also agree with the Wii.  I just don't have the time to play all of the games that I would want to.  So either people have way more time to play games than I do or they are too picky.

Ghost Recon:  42:22
Samurai Warriors: 9:13
Okamiden: 19:12 (currently playing)

When I read about the screen on the controller the first thing I thought was that they were trying to make a console version of the DS.  I almost wonder if this is all real if they could make it backwards compatible with the DS.  Kind of like the Gameboy player for the Gamecube but built in.  And maybe the 3ds, too.  Might be a bad idea though.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: E3 2011 Predictions
« on: March 25, 2011, 06:39:38 PM »
Nintendo is hosting a party that is going to be lame to begin with.  That is the problem.  That's why it is mostly their own fault.  They host a party that caters specifically to themselves but is of little interest to everyone else.

I really don't think that the lack of third party support has nearly as much to do with the capabilities of the Wii as you do.  I think a large part of it actually stems more from trend of decreasing support on the N64 and the Gamecube.  Whether or not that is Nintendo's fault or not can be left for a different discussion.  By the time the Wii came around third parties were already hesitant to support the Nintendo consoles.  So when the Wii did release pretty much all that was available from third parties was rushed ports (Far Cry) and rushed games that did not live up to expectations (Red Steel).  None of which left a very good impression for these companies.

Once the Wii's success became clear all of the third parties were caught off guard so had to rush to release more games that were again either rushed ports (Dead Rising), rehashes of games they already released (Rabbids 2 and Rabbids TV Party), or that didn't have enough development time.  Which again didn't leave a good impression with customers.

So after a few years into the Wii's life some third parties finally got their act together and started releasing quality titles (Red Steel 2, Dead Space Extraction, Rabbids Go Home).  By this time nobody is willing to buy there games anymore because there are afraid they will be crap.  You have to make a market for you product by creating interest and earning your customers trust.  Third parties didn't do that and Nintendo shouldn't have had to do it for them.

To say that it is all the fault of the Wii's capabilities or Nintendo's fault in general that there is poor third party support is ridiculous.  Also, all of the complaints that you make about the Wii could be said about the DS, but it has some of the best third party support ever.

I could also make plenty of comments about your complaint about the Wii controller harming third party support.  If I can use the Wii remote to control pretty much any game on the PC (Borderlands, Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Dead Space, Runes of Magic, etc.) without any troubles then there is no good reason that third parties couldn't have made any PS3 or 360 game control fine on the Wii, also.

Regardless I agree that there is no hope for third party games on the Wii, but that still doesn't mean that Nintendo's core games can't be successful.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Destined for 2011 Release?
« on: August 19, 2010, 08:22:27 PM »
To add further support to the possibility of the 3DS not coming out this year, there is an interview with Cammie in the September issue of Nintendo Power.

When asked:  Communicating what's great about the 3DS to consumers will present a unique challenge.  Any thoughts on that?

She replied:  We haven't really started working on our sales and marketing plans.  I've got to focus on selling product through the holidays.

While that certainly isn't confirmation that it isn't coming out this year, it definitely seems to be suggesting it.

That is a very good response.  I guess that is one advantage that PC gaming will always have over the consoles.  You really can't beat having the freedom to choose how you want to play a game.

Now that I am almost done with Portal next on the list is Dead Space.

Well Morari it seems pretty clear that you are probably a pretty big PC gamer based on your signature and it doesn't surprise me that you would prefer the mouse.  I don't like playing games with a mouse and keyboard hence why I've never really gotten into PC gaming and am now giving PC gaming "another go".  I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way.

As far as Portal goes I played through the first half of the test chambers with the mouse/keyboard and the second half with the Wii remote/motion plus with no trouble.  Its not like there aren't FPSs on the Wii.  So I guess I just don't see why you find this hard to believe.

I am sure this could be used for emulation since it can be used for anything on the PC.  On youtube there is a video of controlling Mario Kart 64 with motion control like the wii version.

About 3 and a half years ago, there was a story posted on NWR about a program called GlovePIE that allowed people to use their Wii remotes to control things on the PC.  Here is the link to the talkback thread from that story:  http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=18764.msg290351#msg290351.  Based on a quick search of the forums it seems that there has been no discussion of it since.  Which seems strange to me since I would think a lot of you would be in to this.

I am not sure what the capabilities of GlovePIE were at that time, but recently I purchased a new computer and decided to give PC gaming another go with the hopes that I would be able to play the games with my wii remote.  So after some searching I found GlovePIE (http://glovepie.org/).  After downloading the program and purchasing a bluetooth adapter for my computer I must say that I am quite impressed.  The current version (0.43) supports all wii input devices (the wii remote, nunchuck, motionplus, balance board, classic controller, and all of the music attachments) along with other non-wii devices (PS3 sixaxis and XBOX360 controller) if that matters to you.  And I had hardly any trouble getting it to work.  I have Windows 7 so I can't vouch for XP or Vista, but it is supposed to be compatible.

In general, the program requires scripts that use a really basic programming language to assign input from the wii remote into keyboard buttons or mouse functions on the PC.  Even though the language is simple the scripts can get quite complicated for handling the mouse control.  Fortunately, you can find good examples of the scripts on the forums on the website or by doing google searches.  My primary concern was finding scripts for controlling the mouse.  There are three primary ways: tilt of the remote, IR, or tilt of the remote with motionplus.  Of the scripts I have found it seems that the best way is actually the motionplus and not the IR, but perhaps the IR script that I have is just crappy.  Anyways within just a few hours over several days I was able to easily control Portal using the wii remote with motionplus and the nunchuck at least as well as with the mouse and key board.

Anyways this is already getting kind of long, but I see on this forum people complaining about this game or that game not coming to the Wii all the time.  This won't change that but at least it gives us a chance to play those games like would on the Wii.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Portable GC becoming more and more likely?
« on: March 17, 2005, 09:07:42 AM »
I think that was lastexit said is right.  While the DS does not carry the gameboy name, it is in reality the continuation of the Gameboy line.  If the next "Gameboy" actually uses the Gamecube disks then it is really the new handheld line.  The DS would be more like the current Gameboys and is backward compatible with them while the new handheld would not be.

The only real problem I see with a portable GC is that it might not sell as well because people won't need to buy it to play its games.  Some people would just buy the Revolution or keep their GC to play the games.  Alot of poeple might not care and might buy the handheld anyway, but I do think it may be an issue.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Lithium-Ion Wavebird
« on: August 05, 2003, 11:26:49 AM »
First of all the wavebird only uses two AA batteries not 4.  Also there is now a rechargeable battery pack for the wavebird available from some third party.  I got it for $15 and have only seen it at Software Etc.  It fits perfectly into the back of the wavebird and I would recommend it to everyone.
