Even more Pikmin on Switch ahead of the upcoming sequel

After seeing new footage of Pikmin 4 at today's Nintendo Direct, it was announced that HD versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 would be released later on today on the eShop. Each game can be purchased separately or as a bundle at a discount. There will also be a physical version with both titles launching on September 22. With the addition of these two GameCube entries, we'll soon have all four mainline Pikmin games available on Switch.

Pikmin 1 and 2 are listed at $29.99 each, and the bundle with Pikmin 1 and 2 is $49.99.

A demo for Pikmin 4 will also be made available on June 28.

I haven't watched the direct yet, but are these based on the GameCube versions or the Wii New Play Control versions? I liked the Wii controls for the games

The press release from Nintendo refers to the games "originally released on the Nintendo GameCube," so my guess is they are based on those versions. We'll have a review up for both games soon!

The one thing I can do is confirm that the Switch version has these improvements that the Wii version had over the GameCube version of Pikmin 1.

-Manually selecting which color of Pikmin to throw
-An overhauled save system that let the player rewind to previous days
-Improved yellow Pikmin AI to make it harder to accidentally die from bomb rocks
-Pikmin thrown at pellet posies will automatically pick up and carry the pellets
-The end of day cutscene can be skipped (this one was in the PAL gamecube version)
-The display showing the number of Pikmin carrying an object matches the color of the onion they're carrying the object back to

I can also confirm it has limited, optional motion controls: turn them on in the options, and you can aim where you'll throw the Pikmin while you hold down the A button. As soon as you let go of A, however, the motion controls do nothing.
