Episode 103: Kids in the Harr
« on: January 16, 2012, 01:08:36 AM »

NWR's Jonny Metts tames this dangerously-numbered episode of Radio Trivia with his Southern charm.

Did you like this episode's game selections? Let your fellow listeners know in TalkBack! Think you've got a better choice? Then send it my way and your request might be on the next episode of Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition!  Heck, throw in a question and specific songs if you want.  Just remember, it has to be a game found on a Nintendo system in North America (unless we say otherwise)!

Hate to break it to you, TYP, but I am 100% certain that you have used game two on Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition before. It was in the very early days, if not the first episode. I know this because I've always wanted to hear the game discussed further, but I believed that there was no chance of that happening. What a nice surprise!

That being said, I've been meaning to ask if you've ever thought of reusing older games. Perhaps feature one throwback game per episode, choose different songs, and invite a different guest host to discuss it. Maybe 100 episodes in is too early to implement this, but perhaps not?

Edited!

Unless it was a coincidence, game three came from my suggestion.  I was surprised to hear it because I just requested it sometime in the last few weeks - compared to other suggestions TYP has admitted to being years old, I wasn't holding my breath to hear it anytime soon.  I was a bit leery to suggest it at all because I didn't consciously remember any of the tunes and therefore didn't know if the music was actually any good - I just remember enjoying the game a lot and suspected the music must have had something to do with it and wanted to hear it again.  Very happy that the music ended up being great, and the old neurons were definitely firing on all cylinders as those memories were reborn.  Sorry it didn't strike up a great deal of discussion, but overall I was very pleased.  Thanks and nice work on the song selections, TYP!

Just checked the list, and game 2 was brand new.

Don't trust the list. It's been used, and I know it. I will check the earlier episodes.

I finished the episode on my way home from work, and I must say that you really redeemed the show from the mediocrity of the first game. Very well done, sirs.

Edit: Well, my initial search has so far resulted in nothing. However, I have a very hard time believing that this game has not been used. I know I've searched for it in the records before, seen that it's been used, and therefore did not request it. I'm also sure that I've heard it on an earlier episode. Perhaps it was on a TYP Short? The search continues...

I'm pretty sure Jonny has discussed game 2 on RFN before, so maybe that's where your memory of it being on a Podcast comes from. TYP may even have been on that episode of RFN and thus the confusion arose.

I didn't keep good records at first, and reconstructed the games list for the first several episodes when I decided to maintain a master list. It is quite possible I have errors in my list, especially for the first 10 episodes. Let me know if you track down when I first used it! But as a warning: you MIGHT be thinking of a live episode....

Great episode!

First of all, thanks for choosing my request: Game 4, Smart Ball! That game has very memorable music, and it was great listening to Jonny trying to guess it. I was surprised that I even knew the answer to the trivia question. And very cool observation on where the name Jerry could have come from! (Japanese pronunciation 'jelly'!).

Game 1 sounds atrocious. Bebe's Kids is infamous for its badness.

I recognized Game 2 almost immediately from the first few seconds of the first song. llusion of Gaia: I love it!

I didn't identify Game 3, Code Name: Viper, or Game 5, Monster Tale, as I have not played them.

i know this is late but i've been listening to the archives of RFN and is the "dangerously numbered episode" a reference to the hilarious RFN 103?

I honestly believe 103 should be skipped like how some superstitious airlines don't have row 13.

This.  It's kind of refreshing how they broke structure and it was more like them joking around with friends they haven't seen in a while.  All while bemoaning the fact that the podcast was quickly turning into a trainwreck.

It was a purely organic creation, and was hilarious to listen to.
