TalkBack / RE: Iwata confirms Donkey Konga
« on: August 19, 2003, 05:00:31 AM »
Namco's 'Taiko no Tatsujin' was an awesome game, so high hopes for a similar experience with Donkey Konga. I wonder if the game mechanics will be similar (normal hit, rapid beating, or big thump; green, yellow, red)...

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Australia in Trouble?
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:11:08 AM »
This is more the fault of the retail chains, and the deals made
I remember, when XBOX came out, Microsoft paid big money for promotion and support from Coles Myer - who own Myer, Target and K-Mart, probably the 3 largest department stores for games buyers. Consequently, ever since, XBOX has had special displays, whilst the GC gets backed off into a corner. Likewise with catalogues - they've always featured PS2 and XBOX games, but GC games have always rarely been advertised.
Plus it doesn't help that Nintendo doesn't do industry nights. Both MS and Sony have nights where staff from these dept stores go and get the hard sell on their respective upcoming products. I've seen staff coming back with absolute biased opinions on consoles, and this directly affects sales. (having the person selling consoles, continually going on that "simpsons:road rage is sooo much better on xbox than GC, because GC is a kiddy console" is proof positive of that)

So yes, this is mainly a problem caused by the ever lovable (not) Coles Myer. However, it's one that Nintendo should be actively trying to reverse, and why they haven't is completely beyond me. Some more advertising wouldn't go astray either.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA vs GBA SP
« on: April 24, 2003, 12:33:57 AM »
I prefer the original GBA to the SP too
yes, the SP's screen is mighty nice - but I plugged in my copy of Street Fighter Alpha 3 into the SP - and I couldn't play it. For one, the buttons are too cramped (especcially the shoulder buttons), and they're a lot stiffer and 'clickier' than on the original GBA. They're also set into the unit more on the SP. Plus a proper headphone jack IS better. I usually play on the tram, to and from uni. headphones are a must (plus headphones sound way better than the puny speakers they stick in gameboys...)

So really, whilst a lit screen would be nice, I prefer a comfortable system, with controls I can actually use, over a light.
Besides, the original GBA looks much nicer too

TalkBack / Mario Kart on GameCube Details
« on: April 23, 2003, 10:13:31 PM »
I'm personally not overly impressed
graphically, it looks only slightly better than an N64 game (Diddy Kong Racing is indeed a good comparison)
a dissapointment after the E3 demo we saw a little while back, which looked very nice
I'm also not liking the new karts. they look silly, predictable, and appear as if they handle very differently (they also sit much higher).

What I want to know, is the pair up compulsary? I'm hoping for some kind of "classic" mode, with only the driver.
and what's with some of the characters? baby luigi? koopa troopa (yay!) AND paratroopa? daisy? birdo? surely the likes of toad should have come first.

And what about info on battle mode? surely that's the most important!
