I wouldn't mind a new Kid Icarus, I really want a new F Zero or Pilot Wings. Anyone for Punch Out?

I've really wanted a game with an appearance with the dog from Duck Hunt.  He is perhaps one of my most favorite classic characters.  To be honest, though, I'd love to see how Nintendo has turned Project H.A.M.M.E.R. into Sprite Climbers Wii.

I started it. I was really just asking what Nintendo's definition of old is. I've never played Kid Icarus, but I can see it's appeal.......character wise. A young angel with a bow and a sword........sounds familiar.

EDIT:

BTW, the conference is on Thursday right? But since it's in Japan, it's more like Wednesday night for us in the US?

Yes it's Thursday Japan time. Don't know if there's a specific time set but some time in the day is my guess! About 18 hours.

A lot of Nintendo's franchises are old.  Even Pokemon is over 10 years old and that's a big time frame in videogame years.  And there is a difference between "old" and "old and long neglected".  Mario is old.  But some Mario related game would be very ho-hum.  If they don't specify the franchise being dormant for a while can we really assume?  After so many years of severe letdowns I don't think you can ever assume with Nintendo.

And even if it's an old and dormant franchise there are still a few things that can screw it up.  Since WHEN does Nintendo have any firm grasp of what their fans are looking for?  They just spent ten years being totally out-to-lunch with gamers and only by focusing on a completely new market were they able to bounce back.  They're still fuddy-duddies.  Talented fuddy-duddies but they never changed - they just found a new audience that is too ignorant to notice.  Even if Nintendo grabs an old franchise that has long been dormant they could very well resurrect Urban Champion.  You just never know with them.

And you can't assume that even if they use a franchise that's really cool that they'll do anything worthwhile with it.  I'm sure Nintendo thought they were sucking up to Star Fox fans by shoehorning the franchise into Dinosaur Planet.  I'm sure they thought those other Star Fox games were exactly what fans were looking for.  Well they weren't.  Yeah, they had "Star Fox" on the box but the last time the franchise was any good was in 1997.  When a Pokemon game is annouced do you ever assume that THIS time it's going to be the real 3D RPG and not some Stadium style crap?  Or look at what Metroid product is on the DS.  Note how none of them resemble Metroid.  Or how about how Nintendo has tried to HIDE remakes with different titles?  Super Mario Advance and Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland are both remakes but the titles don't indicate that.  If I recall it took a little while for people to confirm that they were remakes after they were annouced.  So who's to say a remake might be Nintendo's idea of resurrecting a franchise?

They COULD nail it.  They could for example make a new Kid Icarus or Punch-Out that just blows everyone away.  But this is Nintendo.  They're the videogame equivalent of your dad trying to be cool.

Considering how popular Nintendo is, I find that analogy hilariously inaccurate...

Unless you mean "like your dad trying to be cool" as coming from a whiny teenager who has to rebel against everything and everyone, no matter what, even if it's in his favor...

Does anybody else picture Ian a in bar in his thirties with some kind of ironic t-shirt like "Tell your girlfriend I said thanks" or "Leave Lindsey A-Lohan" while trying to chat up 18 year olds and randomly saying stuff like "LAWL" and "ROOFLE OWNED" and "I DID IT FOR THE  LULZ?"

I wonder which geezer is trying to be cool here.

Also Ian, sidebar, argument lesson.  You cannot be a populist (Using "we") when most people here disagree with you, AND when you are trying to criticize the "new market" for not being as cool as you.  It comes across as ridiculous and makes your posts so easy to gloss over and ignore in the future.
It's time you saw the future while you still have human eyes.

I understand what Ian's saying, but like always, he takes it too far.

Nintendo is coolest. Period. When was the last time you heard people talking about Nintendo in a bar? Or when was the last time you could make a girl genuinely excited by saying you have a Wii (har har) and she can come over and play it?

When? The year of the rat?!

Come to think of it, the last time Nintendo was on top was around 1996, which was the last time we had a year of the rat. So maybe there is something to that zodiac stuff...
