BeautifulShy: A longtime veteran of NWR forum games, but someone who's never won Safe Words before.

TOPHATANT123: The first player eliminated in the last game, trying to go worst to first.

Order.RSS: Finished middle of the pack the last couple games, looking to break through here.

Having played Safe Words on these forums over the years, one of the key things I've learned is that being second is as good as, or in many cases even better than finishing first. That inspired me to host the game for the first time with a simple theme of celebrating the true heroes in our world, the sidekicks and runners up who make everything possible.

Sign ups are open now, and if we can get enough people I intend to start the game Monday, August 8.

NWR Feedback / Forum Issues Due to Server Migration

I know there have been some problems with the forums since the server switch this afternoon, and I've been working with our webmaster to address them. The big one still outstanding is the missing avatars, which should be fixed by tomorrow. If you run into any other oddities let me know so I can try to get them ironed out.

I also talked to the webmaster about updating the forum software, and I don't want to promise anything 100% just yet, but it sounds like that will be happening.

I've been a little hesitant to start a Star Trek thread given how some of the recent discussions of it in other recent threads have gone, but the release of the first teaser for the new Star Trek: Picard series made me do it.

The series will take place post-Nemesis and will involve a story related to the destruction of Romulus, which was the event that led to the time travel that created the timeline the recent JJ Abrams Star Trek movies took place in. After a long stretch of prequels, Star Trek will be moving forward though not to the degree season 3 of Discovery seems to be.

I just got a dog yesterday, and I was wondering what kind of pets other NWR users had (I believe there was some mention of Mop it up's cats, if they're still around).

My dog's name is Chance, and here's a picture of him.

He's 7 years old and had been with an older couple who weren't able to take care of him anymore. He's really sweet and really well behaved so far.`

After a lot of discussion and input from the forum regulars, we've instituted some significant changes to the forum layout.

• Console and Handheld Discussion have been merged into one board, since Nintendo seems to have merged the two themselves and there wasn't enough discussion to justify both even before that.

• Gameplay Strategy, Matchmaking & Smack Talk, and Hardware & Wi-Fi Support have been merged into the new Nintendo Gaming board as well, since they're almost never used. Feel free to post anything that would have gone into those old boards there.

• Reader Reviews is now a child board of Nintendo Gaming.

• General Chat now has a board specifically for movies and TV shows, so we don't have to cram everything into two or three mega threads anymore.

Any feedback on these changes or further suggestions is welcome.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia 79: Nintendo of America Power Struggle - Final Day

As the crowd had dwindled, enthusiasm seemed to have gone with it, but a small group came together to take out Steefosaurus. But just as he was about to be killed, he took off his mask, revealing himself the be Reggie Fils-Aime, the bomber.

Day 6 Results

Steefosaurus, Reggie Fils-Aime, the Bomber, was killed by the vote.
NWR_drewmg, the Townie, was killed by the Bomber.
Lucario, Nintendo VP 2, was killed by the Bomber.

FINAL RESULT: Townies Win

What looked like a lost cause after a few days was pulled out in the end by two wily veterans and one newcomer.

While things were quiet early on, a fervor built late in the day leading the crowd to take out lolmonade.

Day 5 Results

Lolmonade, Shuntaro Furukawa, the Godfather, was killed by the vote.

Two mafia players killed in two nights, and now after reeling for a while the momentum has swung in the Townies’ favor. Can they finish the job?

Day 6 will end at 1 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, March 20, unless one player has received a majority of possible votes.

The unruly crowd couldn't wait to turn their rage against decoyman, taking him out before the day was even halfway over. Meanwhile, while the crowd was preoccupied with that the mafia snuck in and killed Morningshark .

Day 4 Results

Decoyman, Nintendo VP 1, was killed by the vote.
Morningshark, the Townie, was killed by the Mafia.

The townies finally knocked out a Mafia member, but they're going to have to hurry if they want to get the rest.

Day 5 will end Monday, March 18 at 1:00 a.m. Eastern time unless a majority of players vote for the same person. I'm going to be very busy on Saturday, so if there's a majority vote during the day please notify me via PM on here or on Discord so I can be sure to lock the thread since I won't be able to check it regularly.

The masses are getting restless. As the losses pile up for the Townies, the crowd has turned its rage on nickmitch. Meanwhile, Doug Bowser takes out stevey, only to walk into an ambush from the mafia who reveal him as ThePerm.

Day 3 Results

Nickmitch, the Townie, was killed by the vote.
Stevey, the Townie, was killed by the Killer.
ThePerm, Doug Bowser the Killer, was killed by the Mafia.

Because I’m going to be out of town for a wedding this weekend and don’t know if I’ll be able to get on Saturday, Day 4 will end Sunday, March 17 at noon Eastern. I’m really sorry for all the delays in this game, I should have planned this out better.

After an unforeseen delay, the people of Nintendo were restless, as they were eager to know who would be the one to take Reggie’s throne. Though it was contentious, in their rage the crowd eliminated Cutestopher. Meanwhile, Shuntaro Furukawa and Doug Bowser had cornered ShyGuy in a vacant house and taken him out in brutal fashion.

Day 1 Results

Cutestopher, the Townie, was killed by the vote.
ShyGuy, the Townie, was killed by the Mafia and the Killer.

Day 3 will end at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 unless a majority of living players vote for the same player.

As a late entry to the race for NoA President, Stratos had a target on his back, and it didn’t take long for the rest of the company to turn on him. Meanwhile, in the bowels of NCL headquarters, Shuntaro Furukawa decided that a family friendly company like Nintendo simply couldn’t be associated with cat eaters, and quickly moved to terminate Mop it up. While all this was happening, Doug Bowser was lurking in the shadows, quietly waiting to take out who he saw as his greatest threat, BeautifulShy.

Day 1 Results

Stratos, the Townie, was killed by the vote.
Mop it up, the Townie, was killed by the Mafia.
BeautifulShy, the Townie, was killed by the Killer.

~~Day 2 will run through noon Eastern on Sunday, March 10~~ unless a majority of living players vote for one player.

Reggie just announced his impending retirement, and now it's an all-out free-for-all between the different factions of the company to decide his successor.

The day will end at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, March 7th unless a majority of living players have voted for the same player and that holds for at least half an hour, at which point it will end immediately. Players will have 12 hours following the end of the day to send in night actions.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia 79 Sign-Ups: Nintendo of America Power Struggle

After a long period of stability, through ups and downs, the top job at Nintendo’s American subsidiary is changing hands, but who will decide the next boss? Warring factions within the company are trying to exert their influence, along with a few wild cards.

The Mafia

Shuntaro Furukawa - Godfather: Recently named the President of Nintendo Co. Ltd., he wields power from the top. After every day he can choose a player to kill. If investigated he will show up as a townie.

Nintendo VP #1: One of Furukawa’s henchmen on the board, he takes over as godfather in the event of Furukawa’s death, but will still show up as mafia investigations.

Nintendo VP #2: Another of Furukawa’s lieutenants, who takes over in the event he and VP #1 are eliminated, and also will still show up as mafia in investigations.

The Townies

Shigeru Miyamoto - Doctor: The legend himself, Nintendo’s creative mind, uses his method of upending the tea table to cancel out any attacks against one player by the mafia or killer every night.

Bill Trinen - Investigator: Longtime Treehouse employee and high ranking NoA employee, he can use his connections within the organization to learn the role of one player per night.

The Wild Cards

Doug Bowser - Killer: He’s been named the new NoA President, but just to be sure, he’s out to eliminate any possible competition. He can kill one player per night.

Reggie Fils-Aime - Bomber: He may be going out, but that doesn’t mean he can’t take everybody else with him. If eliminated by vote, he kicks the asses and takes the names (and lives) of everyone who voted for him.

We will be following the format a lot of recent games have used where each day will last 48 hours, unless one player has been voted for by a majority of living players and that holds for at least half an hour. If the vote is tied after 48 hours, one of the players in the tie will be eliminated by random draw.

My current plan is to start the game March 4th, assuming we can get enough people to sign up.

Edit:As of 4 a.m. Eastern on the 3rd we're at 12 signups, and I'd like to get at least a couple more, so if that doesn't happen by tonight I may postpone the start by a couple days to see if we can get the numbers.

Edit 2: We're at 14 now, so I'm going to wait one more day for more people to show up but the game will start Wednesday regardless of how many more people we get.

Nintendo Gaming / Warframe

Some people in the Discord were talking about Warframe now that it's out on Switch, and I just started it up for the first time and played a bit of it. Is anyone else here checking it out? I played Destiny for a while on PS4 and this reminds me of that, which is pretty cool to have on Switch.
