What would a playthrough afterwards be like? well, you could try the speedrunner thing, since it's pretty feasible given what I know about the game now.

i'd probably prioritize things like Armor sets and Great Faries, and exploring the lower left end of the map sooner rather than later for the gambler save scum trick so I'm not constantly broke.   also, maybe get the dungeons out of the way early. especially Vah Medoh becauze Revali's Gale is so stupidly useful and overpowered for so many things.

Did my second dungeon yesterday.  The first one I found accidentally while exploring a region, but this one was more intentional.  I was exploring that area of the map, and I wanted to go into Goron City and explore the area around the volcano.  I had some heat resistant food/elixirs.  I quickly realized I needed something stronger when I kept bursting into flames.  I talked to the woman at the stable and bought the fire proof elixirs from her, now learning that those are two different things.  My next goal was to get some equipment that would let me walk around freely without the elixirs, which was the main reason I wanted to go into Goron City in the first place.  I tried to get there as quickly as possible, for fear of running out of elixirs.  I completely skipped over the guy who gives you armor for 10 lizards and bought the armor.  Luckily, there are so many ores in that area, I was able to rebuild my finances.  The helmet was still way too expensive.  I also found a second Great Fairy.  (She was in a separate area that I had already been to but missed her.  I wanted the set bonuses, so I looked around on my map for where a fairy might be.  After some hopping around, I spotted her flower.)  So, that took some time and rupees.  After all that, I decided to do the dungeon.  I'm trying to build enough hearts to pull the Master Sword (which is completely changing how I want to spend my spirit orbs).  And since dungeons are guaranteed heart containers (at least so far?), I figured that would be an easy way.

What a game:

Right after i got out of the cave my first instinct was to try to push boulder onto the old man. It didn't work but at least he had some company by the fire:

Despite looking like a very empty, lonely game the game is still full of cool and likable characters, so that wasn't changed. These characters and quests they give are almost like Majora Mask and just like in MM you can look at these characters' daily routine.

I am in Zora Domain and prince Sidon is awesome.

Periods between visits to towns and villages are a solitary experience indeed consisting of survival and climbing and fighting monsters. I try not to fight much and instead go around stealthily whenever i can because it seems simpler and i only have only 3 hearts.

Puzzle design is pretty neat. I like how game allows for several solution like here where i solved dungeons extra chest puzzle and only at the end i stumbled upon the "intended way":

The simpler solution was to take a barrel and put it onto the button at the distance but i instead used 2 balls from earlier puzzles (one single ball isn't heavy enough to push the button down).

Thanks for all the tips, Khushrenada!  I will now try to mount everything I see!  Uh...

Speaking of that, I stumbled onto an enemy that freaked me out, since I had unwittingly already "mounted" it.  I'm glad that wasn't spoiled for me.

I also like being able to solve things multiple ways, Azeke.  Like the traditional 3D Mario games, there is a lot of room to exploit the physics to get nearly anywhere.  I have accidentally solved some shrines the "wrong" way, which made me feel kinda dumb, but it was still cool.

I went off looking for a certain thing that characters were hinting at, only to find that it was gated behind a certain number of heart containers.  This seemed out of character for a game that emphasizes freedom and punishes people who were focusing on stamina upgrades.  Some mechanics in the game, like weapons as durable as plastic sporks, feel strangely malicious toward the player.  I am now focusing on shrines to get up to speed, which is not a bad job.

Funnily enough this is a mechanic ripped straight from the original Legend of Zelda where you needed 8 hearts to wield the White Sword and 16 hearts to wield the Magic sword

Speaking of that, though... I have a theory in my head from various details about this game that it may essentially be that fabled hollywood 'soft' reboot of this franchise. Hear me out on this one.

Various glimpses into the develoment of this game reveal that a fair bit of this game was inspired by illustrations that were made as concept art for the original Legend of Zelda. The Guardians were inspired by a desire to make the octorocks from the original Legend of Zelda menacing and fearsome, and according to a GDC Panel, The team had an in-house prototype NES styled Breath of the wild to test concepts that they then implemented into the physics engine.

that can be seen here:

In earlier posts that showed the reward for all korok seeds, the person playing was wearing the armor set you are awarded for doing all 120 shrines. More than anything else, I think that THAT is the most overt reference to the idea of this game germinating from the idea of Breath of the Wild being this loose but at the same time strikingly similar premise to the original Legend of Zelda. It's no coincidence that that's the feeling this game invokes the most.

Ah, I forgot about that.  In most Zelda games, it is straightforward to do things like 3-heart runs.  I guess the difference is that those items were not crucial story elements in the original Zelda.  This is one spoiler that I would have liked, because I would have gone with only heart container upgrades.  If I was one of the people that went with pure stamina upgrades, I'd be steamed.

In terms of the reboot, I had the original Famicom Zelda box out and it was funny how much the landscape resembled Breath of the Wild.  The only thing missing is the derpy Link, which I actually like.  It has that odd art style that I associate with 70s animation like The Hobbit.

3 Heart runs are a lot easier in this game. Just spend all your shrine tokens on the stamina wheel. AND be sure to pick up the heart containers, because there is a place in Hateno Village, a demon statue where you can trade in your hearts for stamina and vice-versa.

Thanks.  It seems that this game is better with some guidance, which is an odd thing to say when Zelda games usually offer too much.  Strangely, having less health seems to make it easier to survive.  Since there are few things that kill you in one hit at full health, you can use low level healing items to max out after any damage.  The only thing so far that has killed me in one hit is electricity.  I have also found that stamina upgrades are not that useful, but being able to run for longer is nice.  For climbing, there is always (so far) a way to approach it that doesn't require any extra.  Extra stamina is basically just a fast forward button.

I actually like that the game can be played with no upgrades, although it removes the challenge that masochists like with 3-heart runs.  I guess we have hard mode coming for that.

I guess I've been fortunate with the way I've been playing and choices I've been making. I figured the smart thing to do was get more heart containers to give myself some breathing room from danger and I really didn't have a huge problem with stamina or climbing. And if I did need more stamina, I made a few recipes and elixirs to help. However, I think stevey is right and more heart containers just means harder and tougher enemies so they don't help too much. I wanted to get to about 10 heart containers and then start stocking up on stamina to basically let myself get anywhere I need to and that method seems to be working alright as well.

I lucked out too in the direction I took going to the Gerudo region because it has allowed me to get an item making me immune to lightning which is something that had seriously ticked me off one occasion. I also highly recommend the Sheikah Outfit in Kakariko village. I like moving around Hyrule as a ninja and being stealthy. It was one of the first outfits I saw and was pricey so I started saving up my rupees for it and when I came across a treasure trove area, I bought it right away. It's totally been worth it and having it early has allowed me to keep upgrading it faster with the Great Fairies I've been finding.

The only thing about selling all my precious ores early on is that I came across a shop that will make jewelry out of them. This jewelry will give you status boosts like swimming faster or immunity from cold weather. To keep upgrading the jewelry, you'll need more precious ores when visiting the Great Fairies. I had held onto my precious ores for the first couple days because the description made me wonder if something was going to be done with them or if there'd be different and higher sell prices for them in other villages. But the price stayed the same everywhere and other travelers I met talked about wanting to find precious ores and how they'd sell them if they had them so I figured the game was just urging me towards selling them if I had them. But now I know differently. And maybe so will you or others just starting to play.

I never sell all of my ores.  I try to keep a good stock pile of them in case I find some place that uses them.  Glad to know that effort hasn't been in vain.  One I do sell a lot of is monster parts.  I'll have like a hundred of a particular part, and just sell them off 30 at a time, as needed.  For some stuff, it isn't much.  But if I'm getting 8 rupees per item, that's 240 rupees, which add up.

So yeah, I was obsessively looking for Korok seeds over the last week constantly exploring the southwest region of the map around both Kakoriko and Hatero Village finding all Shines and sidequest I could as well.  So I eventually realized trying to find all Korok seeds is just insane and not as fun as the other stuff so I've successfully managed to break that addiction and am no longer trying to scrub every area of the map, which is making the game a lot more fun for me again.

So I finally left the Southeast area of the game and decided it's time to start exploring other area's.  I went back to the Plateau area and worked my way around central Hyrule, activating some of the regain towers around there.  Well as I was moving my way around North I found myself behind Hyrule castle and decided, you know, I'm this close lets see just how far I can get.

So yeah, one thing lead to another and with only 5 hearts and 2 stamina upgrades I have successfully beaten the Final Boss.  At first I just wanted to see how far I could get into Hyrule Castle but I was having so much fun so I kept going, even after dying countless times until I reached Ganon.  Then I just wanted to see how the final boss fight would be and I got my ass kicked but my competitive side then kicked in and I realized this was the challenge I always wanted in a 3D Zelda final boss and after dying about a dozen times I finally won.

Seriously, that was fucking awesome.  I don't want to spoil anything but it's literally the kind of final boss fight I've always wanted in a 3D Zelda.  It's challenging with a **** ton of attacks that will test your skills.  I came in with a ton of food just saved up and almost ended up eating it all by the time I was done.  Plus since I didn't have the Master Sword I ended up down to my final weapon since everything else was broke.  It really makes me impressed with the people able to beat it right after leaving the Plateau since I had a few more weapon slots since I upgraded during my earlier travels so I had a few more weapons to use and still ended up down to the last one.

So yeah, anyone that want's a good challenge, just go straight to Ganon since Hyrule Castle and the Final Boss fights will give it to you.  Of course now the rest of the game is probably going to be too easy for me but oh well, after taking on Ganon with a few upgrades, without completing a single dungeon and with no Master Sword, I think I have the right to be the biggest badass in Hyrule. ;D

Yeah, bulk selling can pay off. I was going through my inventory in one shop and saw I had over 200 Moblin horns or fangs or whatever their common dropping is so I sold 150 since I'm not making many potions anyways and that adds up to a nice chunk of change. Of course, those items might be needed for armor upgrades or a side quest so I always want to have some on hand but they're plentiful enough I shouldn't have a hard time getting more if needed. It's always nice when I can instantly finish a side quest as soon as it begins but I held on to the majority of my stock and already have the needed item(s).

I actually like the enemies getting stronger since that also improves their drop table. The Savage Lynel stuff is amazingly OP, especially if you get 5 shot burst on a Savage Lynel bow.

ALso, the final tier of enemies start dropping Star Fragments, which... you need a whole bunch if you intend to upgrade the Amiibo based Armor sets!

(Ganon Experience)

Well done! I posted my Hyrule Castle a bit previously in the thread without trying to get into too much detail but I understand how you feel. I had been staying away from the Castle and middle field while working my way through the game on the edges of the map. However, on Sunday, I happened to be close to the castle from a tower I activated and decided to get in closer and even started going through the castle. Like you, I found it very thrilling even though I suffered some misfortunes along the way. For the most part, I was able to sneak around and avoid most conflicts and was quite surprised to find I was able to reach Ganon and could have tried fighting him if I wanted but decided to hold back for now to keep that motivation to face him as I keep playing. This does make me curious as to what the difference could be in the fight with Ganon and having not beat the dungeons versus facing him after completing them. So much to experiment with this game.

On my path to Ganon, I kept expecting the game to throw up a wall or block my progress in some way but it never happened. I was able to keep advancing and it was just so thrilling like I was getting away with something I shouldn't be able to do at this point in the game. Admittedly, there are a lot of tough enemies throughout the area so a bad ending for me was always lurking around the corner and happened a couple times but this isn't your normal final Zelda dungeon/area and no key or item is required in order to face Ganon which is pretty cool. Definitely a highlight even if I chickened out on facing him at the end for now. I don't mind an easier boss fight. Makes the work I put into reaching him seem like it paid off but there's no guarantee it will be easier if I face him at the end or where I'm at right now.

I hardly use them in cooking except as an afterthought because they just don't seem worth using for their low health replenishment.

I've noticed some of my armor / jewelry requires star fragments to upgrade further now and I hadn't come across any of that item yet so at least I have an idea of where to find it.

45 hours in 11 shrines, No dungeons even close to started.
I'm surprised you've been able to find things to do for that long, the shrines are one of the big things to find in the world.

I'm amazed at how fast some people are blowing through this game. What is their mentality? Are they savoring it or just blasting through as fast as they can? Where are they finding the time to do it so fast?
I'm also wondering about that. I feel like these people must be playing this game for like 12 hours a day or something, which is crazy. Even if I could do that, there's no way I'd want to. I also find that I value opinions from these types of players less than I do a more modest player, for a variety of reasons, including that it's more like my kind of mindset.

Yeah this was my main reason for deciding to do it.  I want to experience first hand any changes that might take place between beating him without doing any of the dungeons vs beating him after doing all the dungeons.  I'm also interesting in what changes might happen after getting all of Link's memories as well.

I suspect the ending probably has more too it if you do these things.  I mean I won't say any spoilers but I beat it without doing any dungeons and didn't find a single memory and the ending was the shortest I've ever seen in a 3D Zelda.  So I'd like to imagine doing all the other important story related things in the game should result in it being longer.

I don't mind an easier boss fight. Makes the work I put into reaching him seem like it paid off but there's no guarantee it will be easier if I face him at the end or where I'm at right now.

Don't worry, he's got some pretty nasty attacks that will keep you on your toes.  Unless the Master Sword kills him in 3 hits, I suspect most people will still be in for a thrilling fight even if they wait until they've cleared all the dungeons and got some of the strongest equipment.

I actually did have a few days where I mainlined Breath of the wild from Sun up to sun down, but mostly because I had trouble putting the game down. I was bringing it to work and playing bits when things got slow on my shift and then not realizing my shift was over for like... 45 minutes until I started running out of battery.

I mean, there are people who are tirelessly trying to route out all the appropriate speed running routes too. that takes a tireless amount of effort.

Even still, I'm not to the point where I'm sat down and going "Yeah, Korok seeds!" I MIGHT do enough to max out my inventory Maybe? but I'm on a slower burn with the game now that I'm done with the main campaign and armor upgrades for most of my favorite sets. Besides, I feel like taking a shovel knight breather will do me well, not to mention all the PC gaming I have to catch up on when i finally get over the snafu with my PC.

The jewelry is a rip off. You can find other armor sets with the same effects that's far cheaper to upgrade.

I take it that you haven't been to Fang and Bone. You're going to regret that as you need 4695 rupees worth of monster parts to get the Dark Link + Ganon's Horse armor set.

I was going to put off Ganon a bit more but I was fishing for stealth-fin fish in the area today and got the same impulse to explore it.

Of course now the rest of the game is probably going to be too easy for me but oh well, after taking on Ganon with a few upgrades, without completing a single dungeon and with no Master Sword, I think I have the right to be the biggest badass in Hyrule. ;D

This really makes me regret doing the dungeons and master sword beforehand. I found the final fight underwhelming, almost like he was supposed to have another form that didn't appear. Maybe it was because I didn't have all the memories...
