I'm pretty sure SwapNote isn't actually "downloading" them - it's loading them.  You can be offline during the SwapNote "Download."

I did the same - Amazon pre-order immediately after seeing this news.  I didn't see in the press release where they added "fun" to the original, but I love playing retro games on the 3DS.

I'm Skyward Sworded out for the moment too.  I'm not too far in - just doing some bomb bowling stuff but the game is really not grabbing me.  I put in OoT 3D and I was amazed that for a game I remember starting so slowly - how quickly I was in the Deku tree dungeon!  Zelda's are really getting too heavy with story / fluff, etc.

Anyway, enough of that - and congratulations on four years together.

Oh and Nano Assault arrived today - seems fun and well put together so far.  Thanks for the recommendation!

Ugh.  Sounds like Wii style gaming... "hopefully" it will be an on Rails Shooter.

Ghost Recon Online is now called Ghost Recon Online Arcade

@Ian Sane

Do you ever wonder if the new games (even on physical disk) will still be playable?

1) Today's consoles have moving parts meaning they are much more likely to fail then your SNES (and mine too, thankfully!)

2) Many of today's games require patches, or some sort of online infrastructure to play and enjoy.

I think its very likely that we cannot recover these experiences 20 years from now - even with the disk!  And already it's getting harder to connect the NES and SNES to TV's - and the experience is different then the original CRT's.

Just something I think about.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Blamed For GameStop's Lack of Growth Over the Holiday

Quote
The contradictions of capitalism continue apace! Only a madman or an economist believes in infinite growth on a finite planet.

Are you suggesting it was the finite resources of the planet that held Gamestop back?  That seems like the position only a madman would take!

Seriously, the industry has grown from 3.2 to 18 billion dollars in the US alone from 1995 to 2007 - finite economic thinking cannot explain where this comes from!

Now if a company doesn't want to be beholden to shareholders (and many companies probably should not!) then they don't have to be publicly traded.

Wow that last Custom Robo song sounded so familiar - but I've never played that game or the Wii Brawl game.  Something in me said "Streets of Rage" but I can't find a matching song.

Anyway, Great episode!

Another spectacular episode.  Please never stop!

....I am really loving Nano Assault.

Probably another game I'll "have" to get!  Every Club Nintendo survey has the "Why did you buy this game?" question, and the answer is always the same, "I heard good things about it on Radio Free Nintendo"

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Swapnote: What Is Your Favorite Note(s)!?
« on: January 09, 2012, 01:16:43 PM »
so far.... yours! Your story ones are really funny (I like the SOPA and and the "Mom" series best) - and you have a great sense of using the 3D and building the pictures with the story.  I have great ideas, but they usually turn into a mess.

Confirmed.  Send out messages with stationery to earn more.  When you earn it it's all 5 play coins to buy.  The bonus stationery from the Japan giveaway does not have to be purchased, but you do have to reread a note containing it, if you first get the message without having unlocked more than the first six choices.  When you re-read the message it will save off the new stationery and let you know it's available for use.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Mario 3D Kart Community Codes
« on: January 07, 2012, 12:32:11 AM »
Is the NWR community still active?  Is there a day or time when folks meet online to race?  I've only checked a few times, but haven't seen anyone on.

Interesting sidenote, a bunch of Miis showed up from the community after I visited.

Well there's over 100 folks on this list now, so I guess it might be hard to get friends... But here I am a new 3DS owner and long time RFN listener

Blast my inexpensive non-ambassador 3DS. Retro games on a handheld just feels right. Hopefully another retroactive will be on 3DS.

Nice experimental testing! I'm at 37900 since Christmas... Max in a day so far was only 6000 for me.  Guess I'll have to shake it when they start offering prizes! :)

Seems to easy to cheat, though.  You can just shake the thing to fool it into getting the coins.  In some ways, I think this actually makes the low limit smart - why bother sitting there shaking it when if you just put it in your pocket today you'll get to 1000.  And getting you to carry it with you seems to be what Nintendo really wants.  (and so do I as a poor Zero StreetPass 3DS owner!)

That said, it's fun to look at the stats, and comparing with friends could be a fun improvement.  How accurate do you think it is? I haven't ever really tested it.

News would be great - the more configurable the better.   Definitely needs to be available offline.  Something like subscribing to RSS feeds (with the articles) would be ideal.

Yeah not a hot week. I was sort of hoping for smb.  I'd love to see NES titles for non-ambassador 3DS.  Bonus points if  they do it as a 3d Classic.

TalkBack / Re: ESA Releases a Statement Regarding SOPA
« on: January 05, 2012, 06:11:53 AM »
Capcom is at least being transparent, which is more then one can say for the terms of service they use on the PSN games.

Still I think it's interesting the bill is so bad that Nintendo and others have wanted to remove their "visible" support of it, if not at the ESA level.

I wonder if you are doing something wrong in Monsters?  My wife and I played through monsters on regular (and sometimes hard) difficulty without much trouble.  Sure, some trial and error to figure out which upgrades are going to work best, but we had a blast with it.

It'd be nice to see some more screenshots of games in future entries to the series.  I got that it was hard, but AVGN really explains why with the screenshots and drawings.  I think this series has promise, I liked the history of how the game came to be, etc. but I'd like the articles to go a bit deeper into the game itself.

TalkBack / Re: REVIEWS: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Why can't Nintendo just support the classic controller and be done with it?  Every review, even this 10, points out the waggle irritation.  This bugs me so much!  Yes, I see the score, and I appreciate the idea of a 10.

Yes!  I am ready for some new Nintendo magic.  Waggle is not unique anymore!

Oh, I have no problems with the multiplatform love (how dare people play video games!), but the staff **** on Nintendo non-stop these days and hop on all the rolleyes.gif internet forum bandwagons. The Ian style angst isn't helping traffic or anything, NWR's been dead for like three years now. That's why I suggested it should be rebranded or something, it's clear the majority of people on staff here no longer have interest in Nintendo. That's cool, start over! Make it an Atari Lynx forum for lol.

I know you're being humorous but, I was thinking, NWR's Podcast is one of my favorites, it's well produced and the personalities interact well.  It'd be great to see the show go multi-platform.  I'd love to hear the guys talk more about the other systems.
