Family Guy Season 4
« on: April 24, 2005, 11:23:30 PM »
I just finished watching the first episode of season 4 "North by North Quahog" (debuts May 1st on FOX @ 9pm)

All I have to say is that its almost like the show was never cancelled, even though they comment on it in the opening scene before the intro, it still has all the humor and random flashback/cut-scenes that made the show so great to begin with.

This is definately a must watch if you are a fan of the show you can watch it now too if you know where to look

I'm going to get the DVD sets soon, I started watching FG when Fox started running the episodes again when they announced it was returning and I found it very funny.   I pretty much ignored it when it was first on for one reason or another, don't relly know why.

I'm a late follower as well.  I didn't start watching until I saw it on Adult Swim sometime last year.  I've since gotten all the episodes on DVD and can't wait for the new episodes.  It's good to hear that it's stayed the same and hasn't changed too much despite being cancelled (was it twice?).

I watched the show when it originally aired. As best I could with Fox's inability to schedule new shows. Then watched it again when aired on AS. Then watched AS become dominated by the ratings of two shows. Then saw the show become popular. Then saw all the references to FG's references. And if I see someone post one more flaming FDR joke [you know which one, specifically], I won't watch the damn thing again.

Oh, and the re-pilot is pretty good. Not FG's best, not FG's worst. An average episode of an average show. I guess it's quintessential FG: extended film parody which is mostly irrelevant to the plot [though funny]. Film reference which is flagrantly integrated into the plot, which ultimately comes off as an artifact of the writers' inability to direct the story line. Oh, and a male/male relationship as male/female dichotomy for a sub-plot. Those are always, always funny, no matter how many times I see it reused.

So, uh, is Stewie teh gh3yz? :¬\

Yeah, Family guy is awsome, I think it didn't do well the first time because fox
Aired the new shows around 6 or 7pm Sunday night, just before I remember to turn on the TV
Only shows episodes (even reruns) on sunday around 6/7 (see above)
Plays the sunday night football at 5/6 and dosn't give any mention at all which episodes will air and which will be moved to a later time for that night
    Cancels all the good shows
Assumes no one likes their good shows even though they only ever air them at one timeslot

Family Guy rocks, I watched the "Special People's Games" episode during one of my finals in high school (the teacher had an early vacation so we took it early) The rest of the class loved it.

BlackNMild2k1 said it best.  It's like the show was never cancelled.  I really thought that they time away from the show would hurt things.  I figure they would either try too hard and not deliver or lose track of what the show is supposed to be like.  But it was great.  If years from now you showed someone random episodes of Family Guy to someone who had never seen the show they wouldn't be able to tell that there was a huge gap between seasons 3 and 4 (aside from the reference at the beginning of course).

American Dad on the other hand blows.  Having it follow Family Guy in particular really exposed how much of an inferior rehash it is.  It's like having an Outland comic on the same page as Bloom County.  The obvious problem is that the concept is far too similar to the point where each family member literally has a Family Guy equivalent.  Seth McFarlane should have come up with something totally different.  Futurama worked because it wasn't just The Simpsons in the future.

Yeah, American Dad wasn't that great -  at all.  I loved the pilot though so I hope it improves.

Ian, those were my thoughts on American Dad exactly.  There's an equivalent of FG to AD characters, right down to the talking family pet who has the hots for the mother.

Stewie spanking Chris was about the funniest thing I've ever seen.  And doing the "Die Lois" embroidery in bed with Brian.  I didn't really like the whole Mel Gibson plot thing.  It's kind of old at this point, being that the movie came out over a year ago, and both South Park and The Simpsons did a Passion of the Christ episode.

And seeing 2 new episodes of The Simpsons in a row was a nice treat.  Except the first episode was incredibly stupid.

I actually thought the 2nd half of AD was kinda funny, but I really don't see the show lasting for long.

AD is/was the replacement for FG, and now that FG is back, AD is not needed.  The two shows are so similar(characters, humor style, animation) that I wouldn't want AD to dilute the humor that could be in FG because they had to use some of the better jokes in AD to help it succeed instead of just packing it all into FG.  Just as was pointed out above, the characters are way too similar, no matter how different they really are?

I always saw Family Guy as a rehash of a bunch of other cartoons, so American Dad doesn't come as a big surprise to me.  Having said that, Family Guy is still somehow...superior.  Superior above and beyond the fact that you can practically match every one of American Dad's characters to characters on Family Guy.  I can't say exactly how, though.

My guess is American Dad is on the road to cancellation.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I'm going to have to ask you all not to use that two-letter acronym when abbreviating American Dad, if only because it doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as a certain other show.

And that show is the real AD, Arrested Development.

I kinda like American dad,I think its funny.

But Family guy is better, my favorite part of the episode was the GI Joe parody.
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

I agree with PaLaDiN, AD = Arrested Develpoment (Best Show)
I saw Family Guy, good episode, happy to see it back. GI Joe parody ruled, when he appeared all i was waiting for was the "GI Joeeee" end part.

American Dad is okay, but it just seems too similar in character to Family Guy, and so far none of the characters really stand out, like how Stewie did in Family Guy.

The stripper episode of American Dad was gold...it may not be as bad as we thought it would be?

And that same week's Family Guy was pretty disappointing compared to the week before's.

New teacher: Leans over desk exposing cleavage holding a graded test with a fat 'F' on it
"Chris what do you see?"

Chris: stares @/near test for a few seconds
"Two D's and an F"

That was my favorite part of that episode
